food, wine & entertainment A literary celebration Scone Writers Festival The Scone Literary Long Weekend is just around the corner. From Saturday 3rd October until Monday 5th October, the town will be awash with some of the nation s best writers. Patrice Newell will MC the event, which begins at 10.30am on Saturday. Dr Judy White AM will give the Inaugural Patrick White Oration. Dr White is a passionate promoter of the Hunter Valley region who has written about the history of the area in eight of her 11 books. She was instrumental in the establishment of the Hunter Valley Research Foundation and a Board Member for 20 years. She has also sat on the boards of Dr Barnardo s Training Farm, the Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust, the Hunter Economic Development Corporation, the Hunter Institute of Technology, and the University of Newcastle (UON) Foundation. Graeme Simsion, author of The Rosie project will feature in a panel discussion chaired by Muswellbrook sci-fi author Leonie Rogers themed, The Book is better than the Film. Films can bring whole worlds to life before our eyes, make characters into living breathing flesh and blood, but books let you LIVE everything.
