1. Four Day Land Excursion to Sterea Ellada, Thessaly & Macedonia: Day One: Depart for Kalambaka, a small Town situated at the foot of the Meteora complex. Visit Meteora - among striking scenery, perched on top of huge rocks which seem to be suspended in mid-air, stand ageless Monasteries, where you can see exquisite Specimens of Byzantine Art. Dinner and overnight stay is in Kalambaka. Day Two: Depart from Kalambaka, drive through the plain of Thessaly and the valley of Tempi, arrive and visit the Archaeological Site of Dion. Admire also the gigantic figure of Mount Olympus, the highest mountain in Greece and home of the 12 Gods of Mythology. After the visit, depart for Thessaloniki, the city that throughout the era of the Byzantine Empire was the "co-reigning" city, second in population and prestige only to Constantinople. Visit unique monuments and feel the glorious Byzantine past in some of the oldest and most characteristic churches of the Christian world as well as in the museum of Byzantine Culture, awarded with the Council of Europe's Museum Prize for the year 2005. The rest of the day is at leisure, to enjoy time in the lively center of the city. Dinner and overnight in Thessaloniki. Day Three: Depart in the morning for a unique approach to historical Macedonia. First stop at Veria (Biblical Beroea) to visit Saint Paul s Vema, and then stroll through the old Jewish neighborhood and the colorful market area. A walk in the city where past is present and around. Then proceed to Naoussa, to a site of exceptional beauty and importance: Aristotle s School, the impressive scenery where the great philosopher taught the doctrines of morals and politics to Alexander and the Macedonian youths. Only a few miles away are picturesque Edessa, where we see the town s famous landmark, the waterfalls. Then, proceed to Pella, the capital of Alexander the Great. See the exquisite floor mosaics of the 4th century B.C villas in situ as well as the local museum. Return to Thessaloniki for dinner and overnight. Day Four: Drive to Vergina, to live the experience of a visit to the unique museum created in the Great Tumulus covering the royal tombs of Macedonia. See the astonishing findings form the tomb of King Phillip II, Alexander's father, and feel the thrill of one of the greatest discoveries of the 20th century. After the visit we will start - 5 -

driving south through Thessaly, Lamia, Thermopylae (see the Leonida's monument) and Thebes. Arrive in Athens late in the afternoon. 2. One-Day 3 Island Cruise: Hydra - Poros Aegina: The cruise takes you to three magnificent Saronic Gulf islands: Hydra, Poro and Aegina. On Poros and Aegina you will find unique features such as the mansions of the great captains and admirals from the last century with their own characteristic architecture, the churches in the neighborhoods, built after the Byzantine Empire and the horses and buggies to take you around the island. On Hydra the buildings are in traditional style; decorated with wooden painted ceilings, marble fountains and furniture that take you far into the past. Hydra: Known for its extraordinary light that made it popular to foreign artists who settled with their canvasses on its wharf and never returned home ever since! There are no vehicles to disrupt the island's serene elegance -- but the visitor can walk the island, or ride a mule to its fishing ports and natural lookouts - Famous for its night life. Fifteen mansions built of local stone in the 19th century by captains and admirals still survive today, as well as churches and decorated buildings with wooden painted ceilings, marble fountains and furniture that take you into the past. Poros: The Island of "The Sleeping Lady" -- a mountain range in the background in the shape of a reclining woman. Poros is actually two islands joined and linked to Peloponnese by a causeway. Vibrant with artistic and commercial life and known for its fragrant nature, especially its Lemon Grove -- on the side of Peloponnese. The Temple of Poseidon and a Monastery adorn its hills. The 19th c. houses climb to the apex of the island - its Clock. You can climb up there, too! Aegina: The largest of the three. Rich in mythology and history - the political rival of Athens in antiquity. A commuter island today, serving many Athenians who work in the mainland. The outstanding landmark on the island is the Temple of Aphaia, one of the best preserved Doric temples in Greece, first built in 570 BCE on a site that was used for worship since the 13th c. BCE. The Monastery of St. Nektarios is another worth seeing landmark of the island. Horse-drawn carriages or rental bikes are at the disposal of the visitor. The art of pottery still predominates since antiquity, and the island is proud of its pistachios, the best in the world. 3. Cape Sounion: Drive along the Attica coastal road and after passing Glyfada, Vouliagmeni and Varkiza we will visit to the most southern point of Attica Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon. On the way, you will enjoy the splendid view of the Saronic Gulf and the little islands offshore. - 6 -
