The Jackson County Members Only Tour and Garden Party has 5 great sites to see this year! Each site is open on a rolling start so please check the start times! Starting like this allows all the garden hosts to join in on the Garden Party at the Davis s. The Davis s will have hot dogs and hamburgers grilling so just bring a snack to share and some great Garden Stories! A lot of these sites have made some major changes that you will not want to miss! Site 4 is new to the tour scene this year and the Davis s completely took a pond out and added a massive waterfall and some cool fountains that look like Crown Center! We hope to see a lot of the new members that signed up during the public tour out and about with us! Till then, Happy Gardening! For the Jackson County tour directions and addresses please see page 8. Issue No. 273 Thank You!!!!! To all the members, family members and friends that helped at homes by checking visitors in, THANK YOU!!!! This allowed home owners time to just focus on answering questions and enjoying the moment of others compliments. We have a great organization and Thank each and every member for being a part of it! From Our President Our 2016 Water Garden Tour has now come and gone. It was awesome!! A special thank you to everyone who opened their yards for the public to view. I know it takes a lot of hard work to get your gardens ready and it was evident by all the great yards that I saw this year. We have several fish rescues scheduled in the next couple of weeks. One of them will have a lot of baby koi. If you need fish, don't be shy, call us and let us know. Another member's tour is scheduled for Jackson County for July 30th. Hope you can make it!! Fish Rescue! Rescue! Rescue! The team is still pulling fish out of ponds like crazy that need new homes! Several rescues are coming up with all kinds of unknown fish needing new homes. If you need some new fish for your pond please contact fishrescue@kcwatergardens.com. Please include what kind of fish you are interested in and a general size so Dave knows who to call for the fish rescued! To all the new members this is a free service to adopt. We just want all the fish to have good homes to go to! Call now: 816-483-0908 7700 E. 40 Hwy Kansas City, Mo 64129 Why pay retail at a store When you can pay wholesale to the source (And we ll deliver to your home) Annual Dues It had been since 1999 that the Water Garden Society of Greater Kansas City has increased its dues. With everything in the world getting more expensive, the Water Garden Society Board had to make a tough decision and decided to increase the annual dues. The Board voted to do a straight across increase of $10. So whatever you were paying prior you will need to add $10 to that amount. For new members a single membership will be $35 and a double will be $45 for the year. This will still get you your ticket to the public tour. This change went into effect on October 1 st 2015. We are rebuilding our greenhouse South of the Pole barn and building a new Container Pot Shed and Potting Arbor for re-potting plants. Come and watch us transform our new farm into a water garden paradise. During the season on Saturdays you can watch our crew build water features, patios, walls and much more. Page 5 July 2016

WATER GARDEN TOUR 2016 JUNE 25th & 26th 23rd ANNUAL TOUR What a great tour month! From the Johnson County Evening/Night tour to the Rock A Lily Public Tour, everything was a great success! The Johnson County tour featured 5 homes in the Johnson County area. We had approximately 60 members join in to be a part of the tour. A big Thank You to the Home Owners for letting everyone have a great outing to open up our tour season! On to the Rock A Lily Public Tour! With minor issues, 34 stops were featured on this year s tour. The weather was warm to hot but not totally unbearable. At the end of Sunday the Missouri side and South Kansas area started watering a bit prior to the 5pm end time, but all was fun! Tour totals were good! Some areas that generally only have a few visitors had over 200 this year! The most was near 400. Hosts reported that at one site a gentleman sat by the stream and played his flute. Others let us know how much the children loved gathering eggs and the chickens. One home owner was showing a young girl tad poles and she ended up tumbling in on the edge of the pond. All was well and she had a blast! The tour bus was a big hit this year. I really think it could have been filled two more times! A group of gardeners from Wichita s Water Garden Society made the trip to tour the gardens. The 10 of them ended up at Site 21 for jeep tours! They all had a blast and will speak of Kansas City s hospitality for a long time! It was interesting to see all the different hobbyist interests. One lady was taking pictures of all the frogs she could find, real and fake. The joy of seeing the public s smiles as they entered the yards was so joyous! That is the reward to each home owner for their hard work! A lot of work goes into preparing each and every yard from the home owners. It is a wonderful experience to have members go through and enjoy each other s hard work. To learn from one another and get ideas to take home and try new things! Several members helped check people in at homes. This was a huge help and a great way to talk up the Water Garden Society. Lots of new members joined and old ones renewed! Now the work starts for the 2017 Public Tour, maybe like A Trail of Fountains!? Just a thought from a committee member but not a bad one! Page 6 July 2016

Page 7 July 2016

The Johnson County Evening/ Night Tour One The Johnson County Evening/Night tour covered 5 homes from Overland Park to Shawnee. Approximately 60 members joined in to go on the tour with lots of fun and stories! A big Thank You to the home owners for letting everyone have great outing to open the tour season! Members only Tour Two Unfortunately we did not have enough people volunteer to have their gardens on this year for this area to have a member s only tour on July 9 th. Hopefully next year we will get more interested in sharing the Northland gardens. If anyone would like to volunteer to be the contact person for this area, please let us know. Having a person for the area always seems to bring more organization for the member s only tour! If you want to volunteer please contact the tour committee at tour@kcwatergardens.com. Thank you!
