Southern Nevada Chapter, Inc. #2735 J U L Y 2 0 0 8 From the Director s Saddle. Let me start out this article with a reminder about the upcoming overnighter going to Ely in August. As in years past, we will be staying at the Historic Hotel Nevada in downtown Ely, which at one time was the tallest building in Nevada. At the train depot, they have diesel and steam engine trains that run about every weekend and there are different themes involved. We will be there when they have a BBQ train. They are offering us a discounted rate of $35 per person and we will need to pay in advance. If you are interested in riding the train with us, please get your money to me by the General Membership meeting of July 8 th. During July we will have a breakfast ride to Pahrump which will be a Chapter Poker Run; an evening ride for ice cream; two Meet & Eats, one at the south end of town and the other to the north; a ride through Utah and at the end of the month, we will have a new member ride with a twist. July is also a time of vacations and celebrating the Fourth of July. As you head out to see and explore this beautiful land that we live in, enjoy yourselves, take lots of pictures, make memories and please be safe. Remember our forefathers who fought to give us this land and all of those who have fought since to keep it free. When you see the red, white and blue of the stars and stripes, raise you head high and be proud of what it stands for. Karen It is not just the destination but also the journey. S.N.H.O.G. Editor s Note Happy 4th of July! With summer here, I know you re all planning your summer vacations, so I thought I would remind you all about the HOG Fly and Ride program. While I haven t actually done the program myself, I have rented a bike from another dealership and it was a great experience. So for those of you that want to escape to a cooler climate far, far away, don t forget to take advantage of the Fly and Ride program. How about picking an exotic location to explore on a Harley, like Honolulu, Hawaii, or maybe Sydney, Australia. Sound like an impossible dream? Well, this is one dream the Harley Owners Group can bring to life with the HOG Fly & Ride Program. Full and full life HOG members (aged 25 and older) can choose from more than 40 great cities around the world and set out on an adventure of a lifetime. HOG Fly & Ride is easy and affordable. Check your HOG Membership Manual or visit members.hog.com for a complete list of participating locations and more details on how to turn this HOG benefit into a reality. Stay cool in July and ride safe! Your Editor, Michelle Nieto Important Updates... Loyalty Cards Loyalty Cards are the dealerships way of rewarding points for purchases and participation. If you are interested in this program, ask a cashier at either the Main dealership or the Red Rock dealership for a card. They will enter you into their system then carry the card with you at all Chapter events. They make this real easy as there is one card that can be placed in your wallet and two key ring style cards. Also, make sure that each member has a card, not one per couple. We can only enter a card number once per event. Loyalty Points Loyalty Points: To receive Loyalty points, you must ride the entire ride and/or participate in the entire activity and have your card scanned. We will be scanning the cards at the last stop and you must have your card with you. Real simple, no card-no points. Harley-Davidson Museum Event We have received a pair of tickets for the Harley-Davidson Museum event for Saturday, August 30 th which will be raffled off at the August General Membership meeting. If you will be at the 105 th celebration and are interested in winning the tickets, please let me know by August 9 th. You can email me at director@snhog.com or send me a postcard to P.O. Box 46156 Las Vegas, NV 89114. I must have something in writing that you will be in Milwaukee on August 30 th and would like to win the tickets. PAGE 2

Welcome New Members New Members (not in order): Dawn Schmidt, Jim Frye and Brian Pacheco. Friendly Reminder... Be sure to visit our online PHOTO GALLERY at http://snhoglv.com/gallery/ Photographs are such a great way to remember events in our lives. Our SNHOG Online Photo Gallery is also a great way to share the fun we have as a chapter with friends, family and anyone who is skeptical about joining our chapter. All you have to do is browse the gallery for a few minutes and anyone will quickly realize we ride and have fun all year round! Although Kenn Wynn, Sharon Gordon and myself are the "photographers" for the chapter, we are obviously not the only ones who take pictures at our events. If you have photos you'd like to submit, please send them to photos@snhoglv.com. Be sure to include the date and event the photos were taken and any other description you'd like included. I'll also be happy to post your name crediting you with the photo's you've taken. Thanks so much, Donna *** Note: If you prefer not to have your photo on the website, request a photo be removed or photo information updated, please let me know and I'll make the changes as soon as possible. You must mention the album name and placement number of the photo in question. Donna Yada-Screnci 596-2992 Kenn Wynn 860-5678 PAGE 3

June 2008 SNHOG General Membership Meeting Minutes We met for our annual picnic meeting, where our dealership served us fried chicken, potato salad, and desert, at 6:00 PM. Our meeting was held at Mountain Crest Park, Las Vegas, Nevada. After we finished eating, the meeting was called to order. Karen Heriford, our 2008 Director, asked everyone to greet someone they didn t know. Karen then thanked the dealership for the dinner. Tom Plehn, Josh, Fred, David, Mike, Dave and Dawn Schmidt were thanked for their participation. Karen then discussed past events and thanked all who participated in the MDA fundraiser. Tom Plehn talked about the points for participation and stressed the hard work the officers do for the Chapter. To avoid these volunteers spending needless time in putting your information in by hand, you must bring your Loyalty cards to get points when you attend an event. No points will be given to those who forget to bring their card. (National, Chapter and Loyalty) all need to be with you. Your card will be scanned at the end of a ride or event; not in the middle or for half of a ride! You must have your own card. Do not share with a spouse or partner. Don t forget June 30, 2008 is Million Mile Monday. Log onto the National site, and log in your miles for that day. Jim Larson introduced our two new road captains, Matt Hamm and Jim McClain. Clar Larson gave the treasure report. New members were introduced: Dawn Schmidt, Jim Frye and Brian Pacheco. Treasurer s Report June 13, 2008 Beginning Balance: $ 5391.89 Debits < $ 1478.72> Credits $ 4432.14 Ending Balance $ 8345.31 PAGE 6 Clar Larson, Treasurer

From the Road Captains... Here it is July already; it s hard to believe that the year is half over. As the saying goes, time flies when you are having fun. What can be more fun than riding that Harley on some great rides with your friends? We started June with the MDA s Ride for Dreams. This was a dealership event that supported the Muscular Dystrophy Association. I had the pleasure to meet the Harley-Davidson MDA goodwill ambassador Luke Christie. What a great young man. Groups left from Las Vegas Harley-Davidson, Red Rock Harley-Davidson, Zion Harley-Davidson and Henderson Harley-Davidson; riding thru Red Rock, ending up at Town Square. This was a great event supporting a great cause. The New Member ride had a very good turnout. There were 52 motorcycles and 61 members. The chapter s New Member rides are excellent for our newer members to see what group riding is all about. The Road Captain s spend extra time explaining how the chapter rides as a group, making sure the newer member will feel comfortable on their group riding experience. After the Road Captain briefing, we rode to Mt. Charleston and then back to Red Rock Harley- Davidson for lunch. This ride was lead by Clark Patrick, one of our newer Road Captain s. Clark did an outstanding job on his first time as Lead. Good job Clark. The following weekend the chapter rode to Oatman. If you haven t ridden to Oatman, you have missed out on an outstanding ride. You just have to watch out for the burros, they think they own the town. Then it was off to Sequoia for a two night overnighter. If you haven t had a chance to go on one of the overnighters you still have time, the chapter has several more planned for the rest of the year. We have overnighters planned for Ely, Four Corners, Sedona and Lake Havasu. Overnighters are always great, it gives you time to really get to know your fellow chapter members. Just a reminder, its HOT out there. Be prepared. Make sure you and your passenger keep hydrated. There are some great day rides and overnighters coming up. So get on that Harley, fire it up and ride with your chapter. See you on the next ride. North Rim/Kanab Weekend By Karen Heriford The morning started out overcast, but per the weather service, we shouldn t have any rain until we reached St. George for breakfast. As is quite normal, the weatherman was not correct. We had some light rain along the way to Mesquite; nothing real heavy but enough to slow us down. After breakfast, we were back on the road and on into Utah. We had made a decision to see if the weather would hold out for us to see the North Rim today and took the turn that direction. As we traveled and gained elevation, we started to see some snow flurries while approaching Jacob s Lake. So it was time for afternoon cookies, a short break and then back towards Kanab to check into the Holiday Inn Express. We d have to see if the weather would cooperate another day. Later that afternoon, we met in the lobby and walked a short distance to a local restaurant where they were able to seat all 16 of us at one long table. We exchanged great conversation and enjoyed a wonderful meal. Afterwards, some of us took a walk to downtown Kanab for some exercise and sightseeing. On the way back, we stopped for some ice cream. Sunday morning greeted us with some sunshine but also some clouds. We checked with the Lodge at the North Rim and were told they did not get snow overnight as predicted and that the roads were clear. We saddled up and headed that way, of course having to stop at Jacob s Lake for more cookies and oh yeh, gasoline. We got to the North Rim, did some sightseeing, took some photos, did some shopping and then when we got back to the parking lot, we were met by the Black Mountain Chapter members who were on their overnighter to Springdale, Utah. Hugs and photos exchanged and we were back on the road. We took a new route for us towards Page, AZ and traveled through Marble Canyons, making a mental note to stop there sometime to look around. We had lunch in Page and then headed back to the hotel. Since we had a late lunch, we ordered Pizza that evening and gathered together in the hotel eating area. After dinner, we walked back downtown because it was decided that we should check out their supply of cowboy hats. By the end of the weekend, Bev and Larry Kusler, Jim Larson, Ducky and I all had new hats. We tried to find one for Clar but they didn t have a good supply of extra smalls. I have always said that the overnighters are my favorite rides and this one ranks right up there. We had a smaller group, which included a new couple, and we had a really great time. PAGE 9
