Activity & Tours Available Noto Peninsula This gently curving peninsula has 2 different faces. The outer seashore on the northwest side of Noto is characterized by spectacular rock formations made by wave erosion, while submerged shorelines can be seen on the inner (southeast) side. The rural scenery, old buildings, and unique festivals in Noto still preserves and maintains a traditional Japanese atmosphere which can be found nowhere else in Japan today. You will have the opportunity to bathe in an Onsen holiday village the hot Onsen springs provide health and relaxation. Kanazawa Castle visit From 1583 to the end of the Edo Period, Kanazawa Castle was the seat of the powerful Maeda clan, lords of Kaga, a feudal domain ranking second only to the Tokugawa possessions in terms of size and rice production. The castle burnt down a few times in its history, and only the castle's Ishikawa Gate that dates from 1788 survived the most recent fires of 1881. While the castle tower and other major buildings have not been reconstructed ever since, some minor, castle structures can be found on the castle's former site which is now a pleasant public park. Mount Hakusan and Shirakawago Shirakawago is a secluded mountain village that was nominated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1995. This historic area contains over 100 traditional farms or Gassho-zukuri. A typical house has 4 floors and houses several families. The pointed roofs are formed like two praying hands, in order to bear the weight of the snow. The Hakusan National Park is located in the Southeast of the Ishikawa prefecture. During summer, the summit can be climbed early in the morning to enjoy the sunrise, whilst during the winter months, skiing and bathing in the hot springs Onsen springs are popular past times. During the summer months, the journey takes us through a wonderful countryside along the 33 km long Hakusan Super Forest road. The excursion includes a short hike to the Ubagatake waterfall, where you can bathe in a hot spring (this part depends on weather conditions). On the way back, we stop at a craft center and have a go at producing Washi paper. Students can take postcards they have made from the paper home. 5
