By Joe Burke, President Letter from Your President PRESIDENT It's that time of year when the snowbirds return to sunny Arizona. We look forward to seeing our friends and neighbors and to welcome new RVers to join us. We meet up at our RV Club meetings and plan for activities in the upcoming season. Our first meeting this season is a combined meeting of Caravan and General meeting on SEPTEMBER 25th at 8:30 A.M. to be held in the EAST room of the SOCIAL HALL AT JOHSON REC CENTER. Yes, the rec center has moved us over to the right side of the building. The move is for this meeting only. We need to just make the best of it. Bud and Mary Ludwig no longer have an RV and are looking to the members to step forward to take their place in the morning caravan meetings in the position of Hospitality Hosts. These are the folks who bring the donuts and make sure the coffee and tea are there when you arrive for each caravan meeting. They are willing to train their replacement. Your help is needed. The club is run by volunteers, so let s help out. Just let me or any board member, or Bud and Mary know if you can help us out. Thank you, Bud and Mary Ludwig, for your years of service to our club. Because most of our board members will not be available for our planned board meeting on October 1 st, it has been canceled. The next board meeting will be held on November 5 th. Looking forward to seeing everyone again upon our return. Joe Burke RV Club President MEMBERSHIP By Janice Ohl & Sue Willcox, co-membership Directors The RV Club of Sun City West welcomes you back! Whether you are back in town, still away from town, or on the Rush No More Caravan, it is time to reconnect with your RV Club. No matter where you are, the members are looking forward to seeing you all very soon! We have had many inquiries about the RV club this summer. Some of our inquiries came from new residents of SCW, and others came from residents that recently purchased an RV. Contact has been made with all the inquiries to inform them of our meeting times and dates. It will be fun to meet our prospective and new members as they join us this fall. Please be on the lookout for them, and let s do what we can to help them feel welcome! Please remember that your assistance at the Membership Table is always appreciated. Greeters and helpers can just check in with the membership team at the meeting or call me, Janice Ohl, at 805-218-0999 to volunteer. Thank you!! Goodbye Summer = Hello Autumn SPECIAL EVENTS By Fran DeWell, Special Events Director We have Barleen s scheduled for November 15 th but we need to get more events on the calendar. The RV Club is family. Let s do things together. Ideas range from a high tea in Glendale for the ladies, going as a group to see a movie or a play, or out to dinner as a group. Here are a few more suggestions: Day at the Races Turf Paradise Vulture Mine Tour (Outside of Wickenburg) Desert Botanical Gardens Butterfly Wonderland MIM (Musical Instrument Museum) Camp Verde Railroad Casino Trip Put on your thinking caps and let s have a fun fall and even more fun in. Contact me, Fran De Well, fdewell39@gmail.com or 623-680-1605. Pick one of these ideas, think of another and agree to chair. We will help you. Let s keep the family doing fun things pg. 2

By Mike Forsyth, VP Caravans CARAVAN REPORT ENTERTAINMENT By Mo Burke, & Susan Martin Co-Entertainment Directors 2018 We will have two General Business evening meetings in October. The first meeting on October 2nd will feature Michael Carollo, all around entertainer. Well, summer is almost over, but you would never believe it with the temps still hovering near 110 deg. It is time to start looking ahead to the fall. Mark your calendars because the next Caravan Meeting will be held Tuesday, September 25 th. Please plan to attend if you are back in Sun City West. And PLEASE VOLUNTEER TO LEAD AN ADVENTURE. Nadene and I hung around home this summer but we got away for a short time with a stay in Show Low AZ. As usual, with old RVs, or for that matter any RV, things are always going wrong. The electrical management system was not working and as a result our air conditioning only ran with the generator NOISY!. I looked for a mobile repair service online and, as usual, the first call I made was too busy to be able to help us. The next mobile RV repair service was All Mountain RV Service & Supply. This company was fantastic! The service tech, Travis Douglas, and diagnosed the problem. He found the main circuit board had gone bad. He couldn t replace it because it would have to be ordered and wouldn t arrive before we planned to leave. When I asked him what I owed for the trouble he replied, Well, I can t fix your problem so there is no charge! If you ever have a problem with your RV while in Show Low AZ please call them at 928-537-1147. Our next general business meeting will be October 30th because of the mid-term elections held on Tuesday, November 6 th. This is so close to Halloween that we must have a Halloween Party!!! It ll be fun to come up with a costume scary or silly! Dinner will be catered so you needn t worry about a costume and what to bring for the potluck. Our entertainer will be the famous radio personality, Keith Fowler, who has performed on stage and film. He promises to play some spooky tunes, some fun dance music, and maybe we can learn the Monster Mash! Don't miss our December 4th Christmas/Holiday party at Briarwood Country Club. Because of the funds raised from our directory advertising sales, the club can offer a special rate for the event. More information will be presented in the fall. As you can see, we have a full calendar for all we do, but we need more volunteers to help and plan for future meetings. We (Susan and Mo) will be putting together a social committee to plan for. We need volunteers to help with the Halloween and Christmas parties. We only have one caravan planned for the future. The South Dakota caravan will be underway at this time. Clint and Toni Viergutz are leading a caravan to Yuma in February,. We need members to step up and volunteer to lead a caravan or rally. There are tons of resources and plenty of help available. The time for me as VP is coming to an end after nearly two years. If you have any interest in becoming the Caravan Director please volunteer. It s a busy and very rewarding position. You get to know many members when you work with them as they plan their caravans and rallies. pg. 3

We will be staying at the Las Quintas RV Resort and will have all pull through spaces, access to their multi-purpose room and to the large patio for happy hours and or for gathering. Tom & Janice Ohl Clint & Toni Viergutz Mike & Nadene Forsyth Details Forthcoming Joe & Mo Burke Joe and Mo have tentatively agreed to do this caravan. The plan was contingent upon them selling their New York house. The good news is that they sold their house. The trip will probably take place in the fall of. $60 Est $650- $700 You must have a working CB radio with external antenna to participate in Caravans or Rallies involving group travel. Any ideas for a Caravan or Rally? Please contact me, Mike Forsyth, at 480-236-7626 or email aemikeforsyth@yahoo.com Remember, there is a lot of help available. TBD TBD We have all of this empty space on this page just waiting for someone to step up as Wagonmaster or Rally Leader. By all rights, this page should be full of fabulous, memory making RV trips to exotic, interesting and entertaining places here in Arizona or destinations beyond. There are oodles of resources and plenty of help putting a trip together. If you have visited someplace that was so interesting that you wish you could have shared your experience please let the VP of Caravans know. Maybe there is some place you d love to explore that you have not visited. This would be the perfect reason to plan a Caravan for the destination. Again, just let the VP of Caravans know. pg. 4
