Greetings All, DIRECTORS REPORT Hope this newsletter finds you all Safe & Well. We ve moved into the wet Season which sees us go a little quite, but this year things have been fairly active. We had a meeting/social ride to Di Marks 60th Birthday it was a great night & was well attended buy chapter members. Again Pete & Di were great hosts and a good time was had by all, with 9 bikes heading down and other members electing to drive down. LOH held an Australia day event at Jo & Als, by all reports this was a great event, and again very well attended with 36 people attending, a great time was had by all judging by the photos, a big thanks goes out to Sophia, Joanne & Allen, this is the second year in a row that Joanne & Allen have offered up their home, great stuff! With the dry just around the corner we are planning more rides & overnighters, Sophia & I are also going to host a meeting at our house in April, we will make it a Saturday night ride & followed by a BBQ & Drinks with the offer to camp over. Well that's all I have for now, please keep it on the black stuff Cheers Gibbo Greetings ASSISTANT DIRECTORS REPORT A big thanks to Sophie for organizing Australia Day festivities and Jo and Al for opening their awesome home for us. Was a great day. Thanks to Slayer and Cagie for organizing bowls for us, what an unpredictable game, lots of laughs were had. Got a couple of great rides up and back since Australia Day, breaks in the wet can provide really nice conditions and the country is great at this time of the year, never know who you don t know is out for a ride, hey Byron. Don t miss out on our April meeting, should be a lot of fun. Now turning thoughts to the great adventure a ride to a rally can bring, as there are no national rally s, the state rally s have attracted big participations. Can t come quick enough. So don t let that fuel get stale, might see you out there. Cheers. Peter M
Happy New Year to all, A fun year planned with a few miles to do as well!! ACTIVITIES OFFICER REPORT Since the last newsletter, some serious celebrating going on! Some by escaping relatives. Then a very social meeting at the Marks residence to help Di celebrate her 30th (again). And Al and Jo hosted the LOH organised Australia Day celebrations. Both great couples, who have generously opened their homes up for gatherings of you unruly mob. Thanks to Di and Pete, Al and Jo, and Sophie for organising. However, not much celebrating on my part at the 10 pin bowling. Great afternoon, with some members bowling and some that came down to support, great idea. Postie Pete and Slayer seem to have some history with bowling alleys, Krasha and I not so much. Coming up, open ride to Corroboree on 4 th March and the Black Dog Ride on 18 th March. Aprils meeting at Gibbos, will be fun. Thinking we might have a training session for Townsville Tri-Chapter. Thanks to those who continue to suggest ideas, much appreciated, Slayer and I will have an updated calendar out, with a separate email after this newsletter goes to print. KG LADIES OF HARLEY REPORT Hello everybody, So the year is flying, we are in March already. A big thank you to all that attended the Australia Day event at Jo n Al's this year, was a fantastic turn out!! So, obviously due to the weather conditions, we've not had any social rides this year but that will change very soon. LOH has a few more things planned for social events with a ride attached...will be sharing details soon. As most of you would know, Keith and I will be hosting a HOG meeting at our home on April 7th with drinks and dinner provided and plenty of room for vehicles and swags for those who want to camp, more info on this closer to the time. Will see you all soon, Soph
MEMBERSHIP OFFICERS REPORT Hi Everyone, Darwin HOG Chapter membership is currently 88. We welcome New Members - Jimmy Zonneveld and Shaun Pearce. If you see him out and about please make him feel welcome into our great club. If you are reasonable new to the Darwin HOG Chapter and you see another Chapter member out and about, don t be shy introduce yourself. I have the unfortunate task of informing the Darwin HOG people who are in charge of the various communication lists to remove members contact details off the Darwin HOG communication lists who have not renewed their International HOG membership. Please keep an eye on when your International HOG membership is due and renew, it is a requirement of HOG that you be an International HOG member to be a local Chapter member. I encourage you all to consider attending any of the HOG Rallies that are held in various parts of Australia or even New Zealand or beyond if you are that lucky you can travel overseas. They are a great place to catch up on fellow HOGgies that you don t get to see anywhere else, and a great place to make new friends, have a great time, find out who has done what to their bikes, what works and what doesn t. Check out in the Newsletter when and where the Rallies are being held or GOOGLE HOG rallies. I purchased some items from the HOG merchandise online store recently and now get their emails. I received this one recently and thought some members might be interested in purchasing some items that Dave does not have in store. 2018 H.O.G. 35th Anniversary Merchandise Collection - Available Now Our new range of 35th Anniversary Harley Owners Group merchandise has arrived into our Perth WA warehouse and is available now. RIDE RULES Arrive with a full tank of fuel and an empty bladder. Fuel stops will be made as required along the way. Staggered Riding Formation 1. Have appropriate riding gear for expected conditions. 2. The nominated Ride Captain leads the group. DO NOT OVERTAKE him or her. 3. A motor cycle requires a FULL LANE to operate safely. We ride in STAGGERED FORMATION and NOT SIDE BY SIDE. STAGGERED FORMATION: One second rule: The bike to the left or right of you should not be less than one second ahead of you. Two second rule: Maintain two seconds between you and the bike in front of you. Four second rule: Your eyes should be watching a few bikes ahead of you, not fixed on the bike in front of you. 4. We only use one lane of a multi lane highway. That is the lane the Road Captain is using. 5. Maintain a constant speed, this helps prevent the Rubber Band effect. Always adhere to the speed limits. 6. A rider will be nominated to ride at the rear of the group. It is his or her responsibility to ensure that the riders DO NOT GET LOST and to render assistance if necessary. 7. The group as a whole MUST NOT stop for an individual as it can be dangerous to have the whole group stop on the side of the road. The nominated Tail End rider will stop and render assistance. 8. When we do stop as a group, be sure to park well off the road. 9. ALWAYS signal your intention to change lanes. Keep a safe distance behind the rider in front, CHECK YOUR MIRRORS often and concentrate on your riding. 10. If every rider can see the rider behind him or her in the mirrors, the group should not get split up. Adjust your speed to do so. 11. We ride as a GROUP to and from our destination until we split up to go home. KEEP THE GROUP TOGETHER, TRY NOT TO LAG BEHIND. Rides will be listed as HOG or NON-HOG. On a HOG ride, only HARLEYS may be ridden but friends or visitors may meet us at the destination. On a NON-HOG ride, members friends or visitors may ride NON-HARLEYS but at the rear of the group. In both cases any friends or visitors will be the responsibility of the member who invited them. 12. Riders in doubt about ANY aspect of the ride should ask the Road Captain or appointed Road Marshall for assistance. 13. Although it is a group, ride safety is a personal responsibility 14. Novices or riders new to the group should ride towards the back until they are comfortable 15. If it isn t safe to pass, go through an intersection or turn: DON T. 16. In spite of what the group does, pass as if you were riding alone (within formation). 17. Stay within the bounds of your skill level. Don`t be influenced by the bike ahead of you diving into curves. Group riding is neither a race nor a competition. 18. If you don't feel comfortable riding in a group, ride on your own. Changing Lanes
