It was a HOT Conference!!! On the morning of May 5 th, Janet Stewart, Harv Harvey, Jeff Johnson, David Turner, and Garry Raymond jumped on their Harley-Davidsons and headed out on a four-day trip to Shreveport, Louisiana for the 2016 HOG Officer Training (HOT) Conference. As most epic motorcycle journeys commence, we left after a gourmet breakfast at a Waffle House. All conference costs are covered by National HOG and the Harley-Davidson Company. Hotel expenses are paid by Pig Trail H-D (THANKS) and the Chapter budgets $100 for attendees out-of-pocket travel expenses. As always, the HOT Conference was professional, motivational, educational, and fun. We attended sessions regarding leadership, risk management, ride planning, communication, and event organization just to name a few. We are now meeting as the entire officer/leadership team on June 12 th for a mini-retreat to share our learning and develop a strategic plan for the Chapter. The desired outcome will be to forge a common vision to support and enhance riding and having fun for the Pig Trail HOG Chapter. Thanks to everyone for supporting our officer team! Garry (Doc) Raymond

CHEER UP! Riding season is here, the weather is starting to cooperate, and soon the roads will be ours. So, get your bikes ready, dust off your maps, start planning your routes and make new memories with Chapter Members and Friends. SCREW IT LET S RIDE. Dinner rides We have 4 dinner rides set up in June; Thursday, June 2 (rescheduled from May), Tuesday June 7, Thursday June 16 and Friday, June 24. The rides on Tuesday and Thursdays will start at 6 pm and Friday will start at 6:30 pm. All rides will leave from Pig Trail Harley Davidson. If you are interested in leading a dinner ride, please let activities or the road captain know. The person who volunteers to lead the ride also gets to choose the place. All we ask is that the ride be no longer than 1 hour. You will also need to let activities know. We will call the restaurant in advance and so we can have the necessary seating arrangement made. We will have a Chapter Ride following the meeting on Saturday, June 4th, a Chapter ride Saturday, June 11th departing PTHD at 9 am, and our Chapter/Dealership Ride on Sunday, June 26, leaving PTHD at 1 pm. Don t forget that the Arkansas State HOG Rally is just around the corner. This year s rally is in Hot Springs and begins Thursday, June 23, to Saturday June 25. Preregistration is closed but you can still plan to attend. So keep your eyes peeled to the Chapter website and Facebook page for updates to these and other activities we have planned throughout the year. Until next time... Thomas and Janet, Activities Officers Thomas & Janet Ptacek Activities Jeff Johnson During the last month we have added 6 new members which brings our membership to 179 strong. I was one of the five officers who attended H.O.T training for H.O.G. officers in Shreveport, LA and we all left well trained and energized and ready to make our chapter even better than it was before. See you at the June meeting! ~ Jeff

Kyle Johnson Hello Pig Trail HOG enthusiasts! As the rain is hanging around it gives us time to reflect on some great things in the near future. The Pig Trail Palooza is coming up in June and is an event you will not want to miss. The dates are scheduled for June 17 th and 18 th. We will have an outstanding custom car and bike show with $7000 in prizes. Not to mention two stunt shows by Bubba Blackwell (The American Daredevil)!! It will be a great time for you and your family. More details are available on our website and on Facebook. Additional events involve the Natural Fools crawfish boil and a blood drive later in the month of June. We hope to see you around. Harley-Davidson Financial Services has some great financing options going on right now. I highly recommend you stop by and visit with our staff to explore what is New and Exciting! Don t forget to check in with our staff for other in-store specials. If you are planning on going on trips soon make sure you schedule your bike in for service to get ready for the road so you don t have to hassle with service stops on your vacation. As always Ride Safe-Have Fun! ~Kyle Darlene Smith-Lee Ladies of Harley I just don't even know where to begin describing the Mystery Dinner hosted by Barb Becker. We had a great turn out, three manly waiters, new faces and more laughs. It seems that no matter what the event of the LOH, we always laugh. Building relationships with the women within the Chapter is amazing. We haven't done much riding due to weather but the events alone have brought a lot of us a lot closer, have allowed us to know more about each other and form bonds. If you haven't made it to a LOH Event yet, it's never too late and remember, it doesn't cost anything to join our meetings. Our meetings are held on the 3rd Saturday of each month, with a few exceptions. Our next event is scheduled for June 18th. We have a ride scheduled with our Road Captains planning our route to Natural Falls in Siloam Springs and then over the Cherokee Casino for the lunch Buffet. We will meet at Pig Trail with Kick Stands up at 10:00 am. In July, Kareen Turner will be hosting her yearly pool party on the 23rd. Watch for the event invitations. If you are not on our Face Book page, please let me or Sue Rakes know immediately so that we can get you added. If anyone has any ideas for an over night event, floating event or any other FUN things to do, please don't hold back, let us know. Safe riding ladies...~ Darlene

As I sit here writing this, it s 10 AM, but so dark outside, it feels like 4 AM. Thick, dark clouds, and heavy rain, make me wonder how it can do this while I m sitting inside my house, warm and dry this is what I see a lot when I m out trying to get serious wind therapy! Just ask about our trip to Maine last summer! OK, so if you are out riding and hit rain, how the heck do you stay dry and safe? Well, there are many web sites that give many answers to those questions, some from Harv Harvey professional groups and some from individuals. You can fire up your computer or mobile device and search the web for riding a motorcycle in rain, and you ll find lots of suggestions. Having experienced many, many opportunities to learn on my own, I can lay out a few of my suggestions, if you re game enough to consider them. What the heck, can t hurt, right?! 1. If it s raining, don t ride. Easiest way to avoid getting wet and staying safe. If you re home, don t go out. If you re on the road, get off and find a dry spot to wait or spend the night. A little extra time added to your ride/trip is nothing, as long as you arrive safe and sound. 2. Invest in proper rain gear. It doesn t have to be a wetsuit, just items that will keep you dry and warm. Strongly consider including a pair of gators to keep the feet and boots dry. It s not fun getting into a dry environment and pouring water from your boots, and possibly having them ruined. And staying warm is pretty important to having a safe ride. 3. Adjust your speed. Obvious, right? Well, it s pretty tempting to maintain the speed limit, especially on highways and interstates. But not only do you lose considerable stopping distance, you lose significant sight distance you might not be able to see as far and thus have less reaction time. 4. If you re sharing your road with large trucks, allow them extra room, whether they re moving the same or opposite direction. They typically do NOT slow down in rain, so not only do they still displace large amounts of air, but now that air likely includes large amounts of water. Not good for vision or control! Okay, those are just a few tips from an old rider with some experience. To those of you who know what my license plate means, take it to heart. For those of you who don t, it is L2RR2L Live to Ride, Ride to Live and I try to adhere to that latter half as much as the first half. You do the same. Jon Fuqua Treasurer

Folks, are you bored with everyday rides? Are you hankerin' for a "taste" of the wild side. Would you like to throw "normal" out the window and take off on an "out of the box" experience? Well, step right up! We have just the thing for you. Wind therapy in the heat of the night, breakfast at the best cafe in Greenville, MS, and famous hot sauce in old used whiskey bottles! What!! You've never heard of such a thing?! Hah! Listen up! Gary Ivey is offering to lead a group of adventurous riders on his annual trek south and east. To Gary, this is close to the holy grail of hot sauce sources nationwide. This ride will leave from the Kum & Go at 4231 Elm Springs Road, Springdale, AR (exit 73 of I-49, then east on Elm Springs), crisply at 12:45 AM. Yep, I said 45 minutes past midnight. O Dark Thirty to the extreme! The photo above shows the full route. The ride will follow major interstate and state highways to Greenville, MS, travelling approximately 360 miles and 5-1/2 hours each way. There are 2 planned pit stops each way, but more will be taken if there are small tanks along. After a hearty breakfast at Jim's Cafe, riders are encouraged to shop for renowned hot sauce that Jim puts in empty whiskey bottles. Gary swears these are well worth the trip. Riders will then head back along the same route to our NW Arkansas area, again with at least 2 pit stops, and should arrive back around 3:00-4:00. Please understand up front that expectations are for "efficient" stops (no dilly dallying, as we like to say) and will, by virtue of leaving even before the wee hours, be a bit intense. But everyone is invited! It will a great time and adventure!
