On Saturday, 2/3 author Mark Lukach was at the Campbell Library and discussed My Lovely Wife in the Psych Ward. Family Game Day was also on Saturday, 2/3 from 2-4 which included Giant Jenga, and Giant Connect Four. New Young Ones Story Time (12-24 months) has been a hit. There were 50-60 participants each week and 60-70 participants for the Baby Story Time that occurs at the same time. The library is quite busy on Friday mornings! Friends Booksale is on Feb. 10 from 10-1. Come and find some great deals and support the many programs the Friends sponsor.

Civic Improvement Commission / Museum Report February 2018 Ainsley House: The Ainsley House will reopen for public tours on March 1, 2018 There will be two exhibits on display form March 1-October 2018. Looking Down & Looking Back: Aerial Photography Exhibition: o Looking Down and Looking Back explores aerial photos past and present. Through comparisons of landscapes over time, as well as freestanding aerial images, we are provided with insight into Campbell s growth over the last century and the elements that make Campbell our home. Dressed in Context: Change in Women s Fashion from 1900-1930 o Dressed In Context will explore Women's changing fashions from the 1900 to 1930. The exhibit will highlight women's changing roles in society and the expectations of the "ideal" woman. Visitors will be treated to fashion artifacts from the time periods. There will be an exhibit reception on Sunday, March 4 from 12-2pm. The Ainsley House will be free that day for tours. Upcoming Events: History Happy Hour at the Ainsley House is back with four schedules events so far. February 16: Ethno historian Alan Leventhal: Back From Extinction: The Prehistory, History, Heritage of the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe of the San Francisco Bay Area March 23: Historian Barney Terrell: On the Trail with the Campbells. April 20: Local Scientists from Climate Voices: What is Climate Change and How Does it Affect Society? May 18: Historian Steven Bantham: The Union Occupation of Catalina Island During the Civil War. Each event is $15/ person. The Lecture takes place in the Carriage House while the Ainsley House is open before and after for touring. The Concert Series is a joint production between the Campbell Museums and the SJG School of Music. The live music will take place in the Carriage House from 2-3:15, with the Ainsley House open from 12-4pm. Admission will be $20/ adult and will include live music, light appetizers, wine from local participating wineries, and an unguided walk through of the historic Ainsley House. This is a family friendly event, youth reservations (17 and younger) are $5. Tickets available now at: www.campbellmuseums.com/shop Historic House Tour On Sunday, April 29 the Campbell Museum Foundation will host a Historic House tour of the Earl and Virginia Young house, now owned by Rudi and Joanna Herz. The House, built in 1928, is an excellent example of Tudor Revival residential architecture. The House was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009, as well as is part of the Santa Clara County Heritage Resource Inventory, a City of Campbell Historical Landmark, and is on the California Register of Historical Places. The Herz s have a unique home filled with marvelous collections in each room that complement the historical nature of their home. House tour FAQs Cost: $10/ person. Not advisable for young children. Time: 1-3pm Included: House tour, docents in each room, light refreshments and entertainment in the garden, and, antique cars Reservations start February 16: www.campbellmuseums.com/shop Museum Collections: The Museum was awarded a grant from the California Revealed Project to digitize the remainder of our Campbell Press Collection, from 1907-1975. This will allow the museum to make the entire Campbell Press available online to researchers or the general public. California Revealed is a State Library initiative to help California s public libraries, in partnership with other local heritage groups, digitize, preserve, and serve online historically significant to California.
Youth Photo Contest 2018 Civic Improvement Commission Proposal for CIC Meeting 2/8/18 CIC Photo Contest Subcommittee: Maryanne Yoshikawa (chair) Alan Zisser Amy Carpenter Contest Name: Capture Campbell! Description: A digital photo contest for Campbell s youth (18 & under). The mission of the contest is to celebrate the City of Campbell and put photography skills to work to show us what kids love about our city! Aligns with the Civic Improvement Commission s charters of art, culture and youth engagement. Benefits of contest: Inspire youth to engage and view their community through a new lens. Show residents what Campbell looks like through our youth s eyes. Three age groups: Ages 10 & under Ages 11 14 Ages 15-1 8 Three themes/categories: Outdoor/nature Campbell Life Architecture Judging: Judging will be completed by panel selection (4-5 local photography professionals). Awards/Prizes: There will be one winner for each age group in each category. In addition, honorable mentions will also be awarded with a certificate. Finalists (honorable mentions + winners) will be notified and invited to attend the Civic Improvement Commission meeting where the winners will be announced. The winners will be awarded by the Mayor (at Civic Improvement Commission meeting). The winners of each age group and category will each receive $100. Photos may be displayed in the library, City Hall, or the council chambers.
Timeframe: Photo submissions will be accepted April 1 st September 30 th, 2018. Judging/voting will take place from October 1st 7 th. Eligibility: Entrants must be 18 years of age or younger and must live or attend school in Campbell. Requirements/Rules: All photos must be taken in the city of Campbell. All photos must be submitted in.jpeg digital format with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi, and must be a single photo (no collages). All photos must be taken in a public place. Entries must include name, email address, location of photo, and device used. Advertising/Promotion: Merchant Posters in downtown shops & other locations popular with youth Youth Commission to help spread the word Social Media NextDoor, Campbell Patch, Facebook, etc. Share and promote to other local support organizations such as Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Lions Club, other city commissions, church and other youth groups (scouts, athletic groups?), etc. Press contact Campbell Express, Campbell Reporter/Mercury News Budget/Fundraising: Prize Money needed ($900) Printed Material ($100) Miscellaneous ($100) Subcommittee to target local businesses for sponsorship/funding and participation. City Staff Impact: Minimal. Help to publish contest website in March and help sort submissions the week of October 1 st.
