Good Evening to all of You! I am very happy to Welcome you all for this 4th Annual General Meeting of Gurgaon Tamil Sangam. It is an eventful year with lot of activities that have happened in Gurgaon Tamil Sangam. As usual we have undertaken the charitable activities this year with the whole hearted support of our members. There were lot of other activities and a mix of programmes presented by Children, Elders and also the Professionals. I am pleased to inform you that Gurgaon Tamil Sangam has been able to organize a good number of Programmes during the year with the full support and active participation of Members, families & Children. Brief report on various activities of our Sangam since Last AGM held on 2 nd December 2012 is as under. 1. Picnic : We have organised a Picnic on 30th Dec 2012 to an exciting spot Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary. Located at about 25 Kms from IFFCO Chowk, it was right season to visit this place surrounded by Natural Beauty and migrating birds from across the world. There were lots of fun activities. About 150 people including many children were enthusiastically participated in Picnic. Fun and active Games for Children, Ladies & Gents and Anthakshari were organized at site and prizes were given to winners. Catering Arrangements were made at site to provide Vegetarian Lunch, Snacks and Tea / Coffee. Being the end of the year, we also celebrated as an occasion to welcome the New Year 2013. 2. Pongal Celebrations: We have started the year 2013 with the harvest festival Pongal, on 13 th Jan 2013. Every year Gurgaon Tamil Sangam organises various programmes to Celebrate this festival in order to keep up the traditions and also to infuse the importance of the festival to the younger generation. This year s programme started with the
traditional Nadaswaram which is also known as Mangal Vadyam i.e a divine instrumental music which was accompanied by Thavil ( Tabla type instrument). This was performed by a team of artists from Virudhu Nagar in Southern part of Tamil Nadu. Generally this instrument is played by men, as it requires to have breath control to play. However in this special programme, the team also consisted of two young women artists i.e Ms Gayatri & Ms Akhila who played this instrument along with two male artists. They gave an excellent performance by playing famous devotional, carnatic and folk songs through this instrument. This was followed by release of a book named Gangothri a compilation of modern short stories translated from different languages into Tamil by an eminent Tamil writer Mrs.Charushree. The book was released by the Chief Guest, Honbl e Justice Shri.M.Karpaga Vinayagam, Chairperson,Appellate Tribunal for Electricity, Govt of India. In his address, he emphasised the need to preserve the traditions and culture and also to the respect the women in the Society. He has quoted lot of examples from Bhagwad Gita and a famous tamil literature Thirukural on how they have guided us to lead a model role to serve the Society at large. Shri V.V.Subrahmanyam, Advocate, Supreme Court of India,Shri Sakthi Perumal, President of Gurgaon Tamil Sangam, Air Vice Marshal (Retd) S. Ratinam, the President of Shri.Siddhi Ganesha Cultural Society have also participated. This was followed by colourful cultural programme by Children and Ladies to celebrate the Pongal festival which also coincided with the 3rd anniversary of Gurgaon Tamil Sangam. Children played a skit, demonstrating how this harvest festival is celebrated in different parts of the Country. The folk dance by Children was the centre of attraction of the event. Ladies team had presented a traditional folk dance with Kummi (i.e clapping hands to tunes while dancing) which was well received and appreciated by all those present. This wonderful event was co-ordinated by Mrs Lakshmi Raghupathy, Vice President of Gurgaon Tamil Sangam, Mrs Subbulakshmi Ganesh, General Secretary of Shri Siddhi Ganesha Cultural Society, and supported by Mrs Anandhi Giridhar, Joint Secretary of Gurgaon Tamil Sangam.The entire programme was compiled and presented by Mrs Dharini Thyagaraj very nicely. All Children and Ladies participated in the Cultural Programme were honoured by the Chief Guest. About 150 members of Gurgaon Tamil Sangam had participated in this exciting event. Such get togethers really bring the hearts closer and promote good culture. 3. Tamil New Year Celebrations: As usual, we had a Grand celebrations at Gurgaon Tamil Sangam for Tamil New year on 14th April 2013. Our children came in fancy dress representing National leaders and great personalities. Coinciding with Odisha New year as well, we had invited a team for an Odissi performance by Mrs Sudha Bowmic and her disciples. 4. Special Music Programme: On 04.05.2013, Saturday, we had a special event from 6PM to 8.30PM at Sri Raghavendra Hall, Shri Siddhi Ganesh Mandir, Gurgaon, titled KAALATHAI VENDRA THIRAI GAANANGAL, a Thematic Concept of Tamil Film Songs by "YUVA SHREE KALA BHARATHI" T.KALAIMAGAN (Grandson of Villuppattu Shri Subbu Arumugam) & Explanatory Narration by "SOLLIN SELVI" Mrs.BHARATHI

Re-Registration of the Society: Gurgaon Tamil Sangam was initially registered as a society registered under the Societies Registration Act No. XXI of 1860 in February 2010. As per resolution passed in the Special Meeting of the General Body held on 04 th May 2013, Saturday at 4.15PM in First Floor of Shri Siddhi Ganesh Mandir, DLF City Phase IV, Gurgaon, we have Re-Registered the Society as per the requirements under the Haryana Registration and Regulation of Societies Act 2012 and have been allotted new Regn No.HR-018-2013-00700. Regd Office of the Society was also shifted to C-625, Sushant Lok-I, Gurgaon 122009, Haryana. We take this opportunity to thank Mrs & Mr L.Rajendran for having accommodated our Registered office at their house since inception. Our sincere thanks to Mrs & Mr Giridhar for having accommodated our Registered office at their house since May 2013 i.e after new registration. Charitable Activities: As usual, this year also we have done some charitable activities by presenting Encyclopedia sets, Black Boards, Text Books for class 12 students and Drinking water tank to Saksham school in Sushant Lok-I with the overwhelming support of our members and well wishers. We express our sincere thanks to Mrs & Mr.J.Sridharan who have donated the Encyclopedia sets. 7. Tamil Classes: As many of us are away from our home state, in order to provide opportunities for learning Tamil, especially for our Children, we had started the Tamil classes as a service on behalf of our Gurgaon Tamil Sangam on 28 th August 2010 with the objective of giving them training for reading & writing and also speaking well in our mother tongue Tamil. These classes are being conducted regularly on every Sunday morning for about 1 hour in the Shri Siddhi Ganesh Cultural society premises. We are following the syllabus of Tamil Virtual University, Govt of Tamil Nadu. As of now, there are about 15 Children learning Tamil in 4 levels. 10 Children had participated in the Tamil exams conducted by the Tamil Virtual University, Govt of Tamil Nadu and all of them have scored more than 92% marks. Certificates were issued to them by the Govt of Tamil Nadu and were presented to the Children along with mementos sponsored by Smt. Charushree, during the independence day celebrations held on 15 th Aug 2013. Tamil Classes are being conducted by our General secretary Shri.S.Subramanian, supported by our Governing body Member Smt. Dharini Thiyagaraj and our member Mrs Kausalya Raja Venkata Subramaniam. Another member, Mrs Geetha Venkatesan also consented to take Tamil Classes regularly on every Saturday at her residence in Sohna Road for the benefit of people living in that area and the classes will commence soon. I am proud to say that the children are attending the classes regularly and 10 of them have already Registered for appearing in the exams to be conducted by the Tamil Virtual University on 11 th May 2014. I wish them all success and express my sincere thanks to all Parents and Teachers who have volunteered to support for this good cause. I am also thankful to Mrs N Viji, In-charge of Delhi Study Centre of Tamil Virtual University, who is co-ordinating for course registrations and conduct of examinations on behalf of the University.
8. Independence Day Celebrations: Like every year, this year also we had celebrated Independence day at Gurgaon Tamil Sangam. Flag Hoisting at the Ground in the rear side of Shri Siddhi Ganesh Mandir was done by our senior member Mr M.C Jayaraman. In the evening, we had a grand celebrations began with Patriotic Songs in Tamil by Children and Elders. This was followed by a skit Katcheri Sponsor, Performed by Mr R.S Krishnan & Team. There was also a Light Music programme by Mr. Sampathkumar & Mrs. Subha Sampathkumar supported by Ms.Shivani Perumal.Good number of people participated enthusiastically. 9. Deepavali Programme: On the eve of Deepavalai, we had a special programme presented by Kalaimamani Shri S.Ve. SHEKHER (Famous Tamil Comedy Actor, Playwright, Producer, Director, Television, Film & Theatre artiste ) on 28th October 2013, Monday, at Sri Raghavendra Hall, Shri Siddhi Ganesha Cultural Society DLF Phase IV, Gurgaon, from 7PM to 8.30 PM which was well received. 10.Social Activities: Keeping in view, the Delhi and NCR region is believed to be accommodating more than 14 lakhs Tamil population, of which more than 50 percent of them are from central and south Tamil Nadu, including Trichy, Dindigul, Madurai, Theni, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Sivakasi, Thoothukudy, Thirunelveli, Nagercoil and Kanniyakumari. In addition, there are large number of people from these regions are working in Armed services. We have joined other Tamil Organisations in NCR, with the request for increase in frequency of Thirukkural Express (12641/42) as daily train, and submitted the memorandum to the The Hon ble Minister for Railways, Shri. Mallikarjun Kharge, The Chairman, Railway Board, New Delhi, The Member (Traffic), Railway Board, New Delhi and The General Manager, Southern Railway, Chennai. 11. Devotional Music Programme: Gurgaon Tamil Sangam, in association with Shri Siddhi Ganesha Cultural Society, presented a grand Devotional Music Programme by Kalaimamani Sri. Veeramani Raju on 24th Nov 2013, Sunday, from 6 PM to 8.30 PM, at Shri Siddhi Ganesh Mandir, Gurgaon. It was an event with full of devotion and vibration. 12. Sponsorships: This year, we have received sponsorships from well wishers and institutions which could help conducting all the events successfully. We thank all the sponsors and the President of Gurgaon Tamil Sangam Shri Sakthi Perumal, Mrs Malathy Viswanathan and other well wishers who had helped to get sponsorships. 13. Cordial Relationship with other Social Organisations: Our Tamil Sangam is also maintaining cordial relationship with other social organizations which include Delhi Tamil Sangam, Avvai Tamil Sangam, Noida, Dwarakalaya in Dwaraka and Muthamizh Peravai, Delhi etc. 21 members from our Sangam had enthusiastically participated in the Joint Pongal celebrations, organized by Avvai Tamil Sangam, Noida on 12 th Jan 2014. 14. I would like to thank our Auditors M/s.V Sankar Aiyer & Co for timely completion of Audit and Certification of accounts. They have been doing it as a service to our Sangam. I also thank our Treasurer Shri.DV.Umashankar & Joint Treasurer Mr G.Ravishankar who had compiled the Accounts.
15. Media Coverage: Wide coverage of all our Sangam Activities were published by the famous Tamil Daily Dinamani in their Delhi edition and Dinamalar in their on line edition and extended their full support for Activities of our Sangam. We express our sincere thanks to the media for their continued support to us. 16. Web site maintenance: Our web site http://www.gurgaontamilsangam.com is regularly well maintained by Shri Hari Bala, Director, Systems Life Cycle Ltd as a voluntary service. We place on record our sincere thanks to him for his continued support. 17. I also express my heartfelt thanks to the President and Governing Body of the Shri Siddhi Ganesha Cultural Society who have been permitting us to utilize their premises for conducting all the functions of our Sangam and also to conduct meetings and weekly Tamil classes. Our special thanks to the Manager, Priests and staff members of Shri Siddhi Ganesh Mandir who are also extending their support as and when required. 18. All the functions of our Tamil Sangam could be conducted successfully with the full support of all the Office Bearers, Governing Body Members and other Members and their families and we thank every one of them for their valuable contribution. I express my sincere thanks to our President Shri.Sakthi Perumal, Vice President Smt. I thank every one of you present here for this 4 th Annual General Meeting of Gurgaon Tamil Sangam and also other members who could not participate in the AGM due to their pre-occupation. 20.
