Birthdays IRUSA John Dave Safety Officer Dave's Safety Tip By Dave Top 6 Causes of Distracted Driving part 2 INDEPENDENT NEWS 1) Cell Phones It s no surprise that cell phones are the leading cause of distracted driving. They say that a study conducted by the University of Utah found that using a cell phone while driving (even if it s hands free) creates the same delayed reac on as a person with a blood alcohol level of.08 percent. 2) Car stereos Although adjus ng the radio is a common task while driving, having preset sta ons and exercise common sense can eliminate this distrac on. Don t tune the radio when you re nego a ng traffic in a complicated intersec on. 3) Passengers Whether it s turning around to talk to your kids or looking at the person si ng in the passenger seat, the NHTSA es mates that talking to passengers was the leading distrac on in 7,000 crashes last year. Although the department s research stated that passengers typically pose only a cogni ve distrac on, it s s ll one of the most common of distracted driving. Keep the shiny side up and ride safe

If your looking for riding apparel like helmets, gloves, leather jackets etc., you will find it there. Parking is free but admission is not! Lol so go and have a fun day looking at all the new motorcycles that the world has to offer! Pismo Beach Have fun & ride safe! Last Month s Rides Bear Pit Our first ride is one of our favorite BBQ spots in a town called Goleta, just outside of Santa Barbara. The food there is excellent. They have everything you would ever want from a BBQ restaurant. The baby back ribs looked incredible. I love this route along side the ocean and beau- ful scenery inland also! Great ride. Our second ride went to the oldest stage couch depot in California! This is a pre y cool place that is over 100 years old with an original saloon and restaurant that brings you back in the day. Cold Springs is noted for their Tri-Tip sandwiches that some people consider the Best in the West! What makes this ride so nice is the route we take ge ng there. Back roads, scenic highways and road rarely traveled makes this ride an adventurous one. Our third ride was led by R2 a er our IRUSA General Mee ng that went to another famous BBQ restaurant called The Bear Pit. This Landmark has been in the San Fernando Valley for over 50 years!! I didn t go on this ride but from I heard it was a great ride. Thanks R2. Our fourth ride was an overnighter to Pismo Beach for the Clam Fes val. We really didn t see any clams at the vendors for that ma er but for 10 dollars you could sample all the clam chowder you wanted. LOL As always on our over night trips we sit around and have some cold adult beverages and talk, enjoy each others company and just have a wonderful me. There was a lot of things to do like walk on the pier, dinning out, walking around town looking at all the quant shops. Riding up there was a beau ful ocean route which everyone enjoyed. Next year we re thinking Morro Bay!
