Northeast Dutchess Transit DIAL-A-RIDE Registration Packet What is Northeast Dutchess Transit Dial A Ride? Dial A Ride is a curb to curb bus service open to the general public in Amenia, Dover, North East (including Millerton), Pine Plains, Stanford and Washington (including Millbrook). What does curb to curb service mean? Curb to curb means the bus picks you up at your home or an address you provide. The bus does not have a fixed route. The bus picks you up and drops you off exactly where you need to go. Where does the service operate? The Northeast Dutchess Transit Dial A Ride bus will take you anywhere in Dutchess County. We will soon be able to schedule trips to western Connecticut and Sharon Hospital for medical services. Who is Eligible? If you live in Amenia, Dover, North East (including Millerton), Pine Plains, Stanford or Washington (including Millbrook), you are eligible to ride. However, you must register and you must reserve your ride at least 3 days before your trip. How do I Register? There are no requirements for registration other than residing in the participating towns. Registration takes just a few minutes. All you need to do is provide your name, address, phone number and an emergency contact and you are ready to ride! How do I schedule my ride? Call Northeast Dutchess Transit (518) 789-4259 9am to 5pm Monday-Friday Before you call, be sure to have all the following information ready: -The exact address of where you would like to be picked up and dropped off -Time you would like to arrive at your destination. -Time you would like to be picked up from your destination (if scheduling a round trip ride). -Any additional stops you would like to make -A phone number where you can be reached the day of your trip Reservations will be accepted up to 30 days in advance and no later than 3 days before your trip. You must have an approved registration on file before making a reservation. Making a reservation does not guarantee that your ride will be scheduled. A dispatcher will call you a few days before your ride to confirm that your trip can be accommodated on the day and time you requested. On the day of your ride Passengers should wait inside their homes until 10 minutes before the scheduled pick up time so that the dispatcher may call if there will be a delay. Passengers should allow a 15 minute leeway in scheduled pick-up time. Be ready and waiting 15 minutes early, but be prepared to wait 15 minutes longer than the scheduled pick up time. Wait in a place where the driver can see you, such as the end of your driveway. Please be patient, as drivers may be delayed due to road conditions. Bus operators are not permitted to leave the bus to accompany passengers to or from the curb at any time, for any reason. Passengers are limited to a maximum four shopping bags or parcels Passengers must pay with exact fare. Passengers must place fares in the fare box on their own. Those who are unable to do so may receive assistance from drivers. Bus operators are not permitted to make change or accept tips. What if I need to cancel my ride? To cancel a reservation, please call Dial A Ride at least 24 hours before the scheduled trip. Late cancellations will require payment for the missed trip. Late Cancellation Sanction Policy 1. Any passenger whose pattern of cancellations exceeds five (5) cancellations in one month will be sanctioned for one month following the fifth cancellation. This means you cannot schedule any trips for one month after your last cancellation. Any pre arranged trips will be canceled until the following month. 2. Any passenger whose pattern of cancellations exceeds fifteen (15) cancellations in three months will be sanctioned for three months following the fifteenth cancellation. No further trip requests will be taken until two months and twenty seven days after the sanction period is expired. 3. All patterns will be determined on a concurrent basis. A passenger whose pattern of cancellations exceeds any of the preceding guidelines must have twelve consecutive weeks of less than five (5) cancellations per month before his or her clock starts again. Does the bus run on holidays? The Dial-A-Ride bus does not run on federal holidays. The Dial A Ride Advisory Board will have the option of declaring additional holidays. How do I check if my ride is cancelled due to weather? Cancellations due to poor driving conditions will be announced on all local radio stations as early as possible in the morning. If the weather changes during the day, radio announcements will be ongoing. If it is necessary to delay Dial A Ride service, all pick ups scheduled before 11:00 am will be cancelled for the day. If road conditions do not improve by 11:00 am, Dial A Ride service will be canceled for the remainder of the day. Local radio stations will announce the cancellation between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm. You can also call (518) 789-4259 to check the status of the service. Who do I call if I have a concern or suggestion? Patrons who wish to express a concern or make a suggestion should attempt to resolve the matter with Northeast Dutchess Transit by calling (518) 789-4259. Those matters that cannot be resolved with NDT may be brought to the attention of LOOP management or the Dutchess County Administrator at (845) 473 0171, or the appropriate Advisory Board representative. 3
