Program Itinerary Amsterdam, Bruges & Brussels Day 1 Overnight flight to Europe. Flight Day 2 Amsterdam Welkom in Nederland/Welcome in The Netherlands! Arrival at Amsterdam in the morning. Amsterdam is the capital and largest city of the Netherlands. Its name is derived from Amstel & Dam indicative of the city's origin: a dam on the river Amstel. Founded as a small fishing village in the late 12th century, Amsterdam became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age, a result of its innovative developments in trade. During this time, the city was the leading centre for finance and diamonds. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the city expanded and many new neighborhoods and suburbs were formed. Transfer to the center for a city tour by canal boat cruise to get an impression of Amsterdam, and relax with a bit of free time. Check in into your hotel. Early welcome dinner and overnight in Amsterdam surroundings. Day 3 Amsterdam In the morning group transfer to the museum district and visit the Vincent van Gogh Museum, where you can see the work of the famous Dutch painter or the National Museum/Rijksmuseum. Here you can see the Master from the Golden Age, like Vermeer, Frans Hals and the masterpiece of the Dutch Master Rembrandt called The Nachtwacht (Nightwatch). In the afternoon visit Anne Frank House. At the rear of a narrow 17C building Anne Frank and her family hid before being deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp. See the secret passage camouflaged behind a revolving bookcase. Possible performance in the afternoon in for example the Westerchurch (next to Anne Frank House). Dinner in Amsterdam, overnight in Amsterdam surroundings. Day 4 Amsterdam - Brussels After breakfast we depart for Belgium. First stop will be in Kinderdijk. The Netherlands is famous for its windmills. Today there are still more than 1.000 mills. Nowhere in the world you will find as many windmills as near (the Dutch village) Kinderdijk. Around 1740 no less than 19 sturdy mills were built here. They have been well preserved to the present day. In a typical Dutch landscape, along canals and amidst meadows you will find these 19 windmills. In 1997 the mills of Kinderdijk were put on the World Heritage List of UNESCO Continue to Brussels with a lunch stop in Antwerp, the harbor town of Belgium, with impressive market square, huge cathedral and many intimate little alleys full of shops, pubs etc. Have some free time here, see the Grand Place, Town Hall and the Brabo fountain. Possible visit at a Diamond factory (free of charge).

We continue to the bi-lingual capital Brussels. Here the inhabitants speak Flemish and French! Dinner and overnight in Brussels. Day 5 Brussels After breakfast guided tour of Brussels, partly by foot and partly by coach. It is the city of the royal residence, the seat of the European communities and of the NATO headquarters. Possible lecture at an European Institution, to learn more about European Union. Continue with the guided walking tour to see the highlights of Brussels, such as the Grand Place with the guild halls and the town hall and Manneken Pis (also known as Little Julian). Rest of the day at leisure for independent museum visits (many!) or shopping on the famous Meir. Dinner and overnight in Brussels. Day 6 Brussels Bruges - Brussels Day excursion to Bruges, the Pearl of Belgium, Venice of the North! A town with beautiful decorated houses, cobblestone streets, lovely flower boxes line the canals, old guildhalls and churches. Bruges is famous for its fine Belgian lace and chocolate. Upon arrival we will have a guided bike tour of this medieval town. See sights such as the Beguinage, the Church of Our Lady with the Michelangelo s Virgin and Child, and the Market Square. A canal boat through medieval Bruges is included. Enjoy the boat-ride on the Love Water! Bike tour can be replaced by a walking tour! Enjoy some free time for additional sightseeing and shopping. Don t forget to taste the delicious Belgian chocolates. Possible afternoon performance in the Cathedral where you can also see the statue of the Madonna and Child done by Michelangelo, who was born over 500 years ago. Dinner and overnight in Brussels Day 7 Brussels Morning excursion to Waterloo, situated close to Brussels, the Waterloo Battlefield has been preserved almost as it was in 1815. Come and find out about the course of this great battle from European history which pitted Napoleon s troops against those of Wellington and Blücher. Take your place on the Battlefield Tour with sound effects and relive the great moments of the battle on site. Discover the Panorama: a huge 360 fresco of the battle. On 18 June each year, there is a grand historical reconstruction and every weekend in the summer, military events are held in period costume. A great, lively historical site. Afternoon return to Brussels for a possible performance for example in the Church of Notre Dame du Finistere or at the St Catherine Church. Farewell dinner at local restaurant and overnight in Brussels. Day 8 Following breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight home. Flight home End of arrangements Note: unexpected circumstances may cause changes to the order of events outlined in the itinerary.
