12/05/2011 MFA Spokesman's comments on travel to Japan We no longer advise against non-essential travel to Japan. Singaporeans should, however, continue to avoid travel to the coastal areas of Fukushima, Miyagi and Iwate prefectures which were the most affected by the 11 March earthquake and tsunami, as these areas continue to suffer disruptions to residential, business and transport infrastructure. The International Atomic Energy Agency continues to maintain its assessment that the "overall situation at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant remains very serious". Singaporeans should therefore: strictly observe the exclusion zone of 30 km around the Fukushima nuclear power plant imposed by the Japanese Government; and refrain from travel within a radius of 80 km from the Fukushima nuclear power plant, and Singaporeans who remain there are strongly advised to relocate to safer areas.
