Govt committed to reforms with a human face: Venkaiah NEW DELHI, NOVEMBER 23: The Government is committed to reforms with a human face and Opposition parties should allow Parliament to function smoothly, said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu. We will pursue reforms for the welfare of all Indians and not for the benefit of one section of people, Naidu said at Skoch Summit in the Capital. Smooth session He expressed hope that Parliament would be allowed to function smoothly without disruptions. Parliament functioning is indication of strength of a democracy, he said. His remarks are significant as they came ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament slated to commence on Monday. I have told the Opposition parties you take as much time as you want... discuss, debate and decide. But don t disrupt, Naidu said. Wealth creation He also stressed the need for wealth creation in the economy, stating that one could distribute only after wealth is created. Being business friendly is not wrong so long as it leads to wealth creation in the economy, he said. The Government will be focused on making agriculture viable, upgrading skills of urban and rural people besides bringing about financial inclusion. Stating that things are improving, Naidu said it would not be possible to bring the desired change overnight. Things are changing. Investments are coming. There was policy paralysis earlier (previous regime). That is not there now. What is needed is stability (of Government) and ability which are there now. This should lead to prosperity. CCI decision on Sun-Ranbaxy $4 bn deal before month end, says Chairman Ashok Chawla PTI Nov 21, 2014, 10.44PM IST NEW DELHI: Competition Commission is at an advanced stage of finalising its decision on the $4 billion Sun Pharma- Ranbaxy deal and an order is expected before month-end. This big ticket deal in the pharma space is also the first M&A transaction to have gone through public scrutiny amid concerns of adverse impact on fair competition in the market We will be finalising our order and a decision on that within the next week or so. It is at a very advanced stage and our people are engaging with the companies and their representatives. The final order will be available before the end of this month, Competition Commission of India (CCI) Chairman Ashok Chawla said here today. The fair trade watchdog had asked the two companies to come up with some remedial measures which they have submitted. Sun Pharma-Ranbaxy transaction, which would create the country s largest pharmaceutical company, had come under close scrutiny of CCI after it was found prima-facie that the combination is likely to have an appreciable adverse effect on competition. The combined entity would have operations in 65 countries, 47 manufacturing facilities across 5 continents, and a significant platform of speciality and generic products marketed globally. The deal, announced in April this year, is also the first one where Commission sought public comments. The public scrutiny of the deal, which would create the fifth largest speciality generics company in the world, ended on September 24. Major issues being examined by CCI on the deal are with respect to the molecules market. Responding to a query on whether the regulator was looking at alleged unfair practices in the movement of air fares, Chawla said the issue keeps coming back to the Commission from various quarters. We are obliged to look at it but I am not sure at what stage the examination is and we are not certainly at any position where we can decide one way or the other, he said. State s Skill Development & Employment Generation programme was adjudged as India s Best Project-2014 under the Skoch Renaissance Awards by Skoch Group, a New Delhi based consultancy services group, for the efficient implementation of the programme in the State for the benefit of the youth mostly less educated and school dropouts.
