There has never been a more exciting time to work in tourism or with Visit Belfast, the city s official Destination Marketing and Management Company. Visit Belfast has an exciting opportunity for an undergraduate currently studying for a relevant university degree in marketing, communication, sports management, advertising or travel and tourism to join the Business Development Team. Our internship programme lasts for one year running from June/July 2018 to June/July 2019. Reporting to the Head of Business Tourism, you will be responsible for identifying sporting competitions, tournaments, events and special interest group opportunities which Visit Belfast could bid to bring to Belfast and the city region. What skills will you develop? During your internship you will be given the necessary mentoring and training to develop the following skills and experience: Market research and business development skills. Job Description POSITION: DEPARTMENT: REPORTING TO: Sports, Special Interest Groups & Business Tourism Intern (Fixed term 1 year) Business Development Head of Business Tourism SALARY: 13,000 PURPOSE: Reporting to the Head of Business Tourism you will assist in identifying and developing opportunities to attract national and international sporting and special interest group events to Belfast to help grow visitor numbers and spend to the city region. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Conduct desk research and market intelligence to identify new sporting and special interest group events, tournaments and competitions that could be hosted in Belfast to drive visitor numbers, bed nights and spend. 2. Research Northern Ireland, GB and ROI sporting organisations and special interest groups with strong links to Belfast. 3. Identify new potential sports ambassadors for Belfast who can assist Visit Belfast in bringing sporting or special interest groups and events to the city within their area of interest. 4. Work with key stakeholders such as Sport NI, Belfast City Council, Tourism NI, Tourism Ireland, Ulster University, Queen s University, sporting and volunteer organisations across Northern Ireland to identify prospective sporting events and special interest group events that could be hosted in Belfast and to partner with Visit Belfast in the bidding process. 5. Develop and maintain a detailed database of sporting and event facilities across Belfast and the city region that could be used to host sporting and special interest groups and events. Conduct venue searches for prospective events and event organisers. 6. Develop and maintain a database of qualified sports tourism and special interest group opportunities on Visit Belfast s (customer relationship marketing) CRM database. 7. Assist the business development team in creating bids, proposals, presentations and promotional material to promote Belfast as a destination for sporting and special interest groups. 5

8. Assist in organising site visit itineraries, familiarisation visits and client events to showcase Belfast as a destination for sporting events and special interest groups. Meet, greet and accompany event organisers on visits to Belfast and provide information packs and follow up information as required. 9. Assist in the development of a sports tourism and special interest section of the Visit Belfast website. 10. Assist in the development of marketing collateral and content to promote Belfast and the city region as a destination for sporting events and special interest groups. 11. Provide administrative support as directed by the Head of Business Tourism and Department Managers. 12. To be an ambassador for the Belfast brand, its essence and values in the performance of your role. 13. Assist in the development and maintenance of effective working relationships with Visit Belfast partners, sponsors and other organisations as appropriate. 14. To undertake any other duties as required by the Head of Business Tourism, the Director of Business Development and the Visit Belfast senior management team. OTHER: 1. To undertake, when necessary, work out of normal office hours. 2. To carry out all duties with full regard to Visit Belfast s equal opportunities and fair employment policies. 3. Personnel Specification Essential Criteria Desirable Criteria Qualifications Minimum 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C or above, including English and Maths. Currently studying for a relevant university degree in marketing, communication, sports management advertising or travel and tourism.
