Page 1 Happy New Year! Commodore s Report Gary Sheneman January Calendar 1/9 Board Meeting 1/16 General Meeting 1/19 Wine Social 1/26 Boat Show Brunch Welcome to 2008 and what is expected to be another phenomenal year for Puget Sound Yacht Club. I want to thank all of you for your confidence in me as your Commodore and pledge to do my best to uphold the great tradition established by our Past Commodores. I also welcome your insight, suggestions and support as we work together to make 2008 a fulfilling and successful year for us all. A hearty Thank You is in order for our outgoing Board Members: Steve Cook, Tom Layborn, Bill Dils and Michael Plumb. Further, I d like to extend my gratitude to Larry Newton for serving as interim Treasurer supporting the operations of the Club without missing a beat. Finally, I would like to acknowledge Mike and Lisa Haistings for their contributions for the past five years and Thank them for all they have done in making PSYC the great club it is today. I m extremely excited by the leadership and experience represented by the 2008 Bridge and Board of Trustees and I m certain they will govern the club with great diligence and concern for everyone s welfare. I especially want to recognize Joyce Carlson for agreeing to fulfill the remaining year of our Secretary s term and expect her wealth of knowledge being a great asset to the Board. I also want to thank everyone in advance who stepped forward and accepted responsibility for an Appointed Position or Committee Chair. These roles are as vital to the success of our club as our elected positions and I greatly appreciate your sacrifice and support. I m looking forward to working with each of you in the coming year. We have another action packed agenda for the year and it will kick-off with a couple of favorite events at the Clubhouse in January. Our cruising season begins in February and we are still in need of a few folks to lead cruises this spring and summer. These are great opportunities to put your mark on the cruise experience and a great chance to interact with other members in a fun and collaborative way. It would be great to see more of you involved in these events in the coming year. By now some of us have already failed at keeping our New Year s resolution, that s okay the years young make some new ones, like going to more club events, cruises or being a cruise captain. Of course the New Year brings new responsibilities for me; I get to take care of the club facilities this year. I will need some help from everyone else. I need you to let me know when something isn t working or needs replacing. If y all can send me a note or message I ll get over to the club and take care of it (yes I know the ice machine isn t working, that ones already being attended too, so I don t need any notice on that). A lot of our members have great personal skills, interest or contacts in the construction, handyman or landscape business. I would like to get an idea of who is willing and able to help out at different times of the year with small projects as they come up. So if you have some skills, experience or even contacts in the above areas send me a note. I d like to keep the info at hand in the event we need to take care of some project or repair on short notice. Also knowing what our members can do will help us plan some of our annual projects. So, as we move forward I look forward to working with the members on the up-keep and improvements of our Club and Hat Island facilities. Speaking of Hat Island, the Hat island community is preparing to replace the gangways to both docks. The construction will result in our power being turned of during the gangway replacement and lack of shore access while the ramp is replaced. Our docks themselves will be available for use by club member. The project is expected to create limited disruptions for approximately two weeks. The project is weather dependant so we don t know exactly when the work is going to occur but the permit require the work to be done in January/February. I don t expect that many of us will be affected due to the weather in January and February, but I will let you know when the work begins. The dock master told us that they will work with our members if they cruise to the Island. They will try to find a spot on the other dock, or a location for us to tie up a dinghy if we what to go to shore.

Page 3 Rear Commodore s Report Paula Spina Happy New Year Everyone! Well, we are already off to a fast start to the Club social season, with lots of additional options in discussion. First of all, we have a wine social at the Club on Saturday January 19. Starting at 5 PM there will be a wine tasting led by Joseph, our fine wine expert from last year s event. Then at 7 PM we will enjoy a pot luck supper and a bottle of wine to share with dinner. So make sure you bring a dish to share. The cost is $15 per person for the wine tasting, dinner wine and appetizers. This is a great opportunity to get together and sample a selection of really fine wines. Email Judy Quick at judyq@qwest.net to make your reservation or call her 425-644-9008 with any questions. Hot on the heels of the wine social is our annual Boat Show Brunch, which will be held this year on Saturday, January 26, 2008 from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM. We have invited the Richland Yacht Club to join us again this year. It s the least we can do for the hospitality they show us each October during Judy s wine tour. We need volunteers to help out with the brunch and we need as many members as can to show up and have brunch with the Richland folks. If you can help out, contact me at 206-265-0981 or by email to pspina02@aol.com. This year Richland is grouping together for dinner Saturday evening after the boat show at Buca Di Beppo s. They would be delighted to have any of our members join them (dutch, of course) for family-style Italian dining. I ll be there, I hope to see many of you there as well. This year we are trying something new at our February general meeting. This meeting has been designated as our new member orientation meeting. The idea is to catch our new members (and some old as well) up on the workings and activities of the Club. If you can only make one meeting this year, this is the one it s guaranteed to make you want to attend them all. We are in the process of planning a GAFIA trip for April 11 through 13. Right now the two most likely destinations are Portland or Cannon Beach. If we go to Portland we ll be staying downtown in the Pearl District. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, art galleries, museums, and shops (lots of shops). In addition every Saturday (and Sunday) there is a large arts and crafts farmers market. Cannon Beach offers a quaint coastal village setting with galleries and shops as well. It is a little easier situated for those with travel trailers. Let me know your preferences so that I can get to work putting it together. And finally, mark your calendars our spring work party will be held on April 26 the weekend before Boating Opening Day. Calling all members, we need all hands on deck to help make the Club sparkle and shine. Fleet Captain s Report Chris Kullmann Information Update Does your birthday show up on our birthday calendar correctly or at all? Are your address and phone number correct in the roster and on the website? Is any of your personal information incorrect or missing? Happy New Year to all. Well another year has started and we have a busy cruise schedule. The Dills and Paula and Lance will repeat the Ice Breaker Cruise to Edmonds Feb. 22-24. This was a great cruise to start the season last year and yes you can come by car. Next is the Port Orchard Cruise which drew 15 club boats last year, a little wine tasting and a possibility of finding money as Doug Switzer can tell you. I am looking for cruise captains for Kingston April 11-13 and Gig Harbor Aug. 29- Sept. 1, Labor Day. If you can head or help on a cruise please call or email me. These cruises are held for you the members to get out and enjoy your boats and fellow members, please step up. All cruise locations have been confirmed for the year. Chris Kullmann 425-503-3374 The Dills 206-605-3457 This is the time to get your information updated for the 2008 Roster. Go to www.pugetsoundyc.org and click on Your Account Settings and then on the Member tab. There you can update all of your personal information. If you don't have access to the Internet or don t have an ID/password to log onto the website, please contact Jim Barrett (206-930-3607 or jbarrett@pugetsoundyc.org) for assistance.
