Welcome Summer Camp Description Camp at Chesterbrook Academy offers fun-filled summer programs for children rising 1 st 4 th grade. Each week, campers jump into action, participating in exciting sports programs, exploring nature, becoming involved in performing and creative arts, playing a part in group activities, and attending special events. Our campers have the opportunity to expand their horizons during the summer, embarking on new adventures, and having fun! Our exceptional program and dedicated staff create an environment that forges lifelong friendships among our campers. We create a summer experience that is unforgettable! It all starts with our outstanding camp counselors. A camp is only as good as its staff, and we are extremely proud of ours. Talent, creativity, love of children, leadership and devotion make our camp counselors the heart and soul of the program. We take our camp programs seriously and begin our summer with intensive staff training and orientation. Camp counselors and specialists are doing exactly what they enjoy most: spending a summer inspiring campers to explore, reach for new heights, and expand their horizons. Camp at Chesterbrook Academy gives you choices. Camp includes five days of activities, from 9:00am 4:00 pm. You can choose to add extended hours and specialty camps to your menu of summer fun. We offer a range of outdoor activities, plus indoor activities conducted in our fully air conditioned facility. Our specialty camps are optional programs, operating during regular camp hours, which provide even more choices for unique and exciting adventures. Activity Blocks Each week campers will engage in unique activity blocks that offer relevant, meaningful experiences that allow them to construct new knowledge while connecting to previous knowledge. Activities provide an opportunity for campers to engage, explore and make sense of the natural world through inquiry and project-based learning. BLOCK 1 Photography: A portable studio Campers are immersed in the art and craft of still photography, and are introduced to the tools necessary to capture great images and refine them through digital imaging. BLOCK 2 Drama-The Musical Campers learn basic knowledge of acting techniques and stage movement to develop their imagination, creativity and confidence. BLOCK 3 Iron Camp Chef Campers will practice a variety of kitchen skills and use their creativity, while getting messy, and eating delicious foods! BLOCK 4 Science Gurus Practical and fun experimentation and project building send campers home with enthusiasm and the knowledge required to take the sciences further as hobbies. BLOCK 5 Urban Designers Draw. Decorate. Design. Campers will explore a multitude of design challenges, including interior design, architectural design and fashion design. BLOCK 6 Time Travelers Through the Decades Come explore the Roaring 20 s, Fabulous 50 s, and Excellent 80 s. We will travel through each decade and study important inventions, as well as historical milestones. BLOCK 7 Color Wars Campers are divided into teams, each of which is assigned a color. The teams compete against each other in challenges and events to earn points. BLOCK 8 Lego-Inspired Engineering Dream it. Build it. Wreck it. Repeat! Campers build elaborate objects, structures and vehicles, while they explore fundamental principles of engineering and physics. BLOCK 9 Citizenship & Friendship Brigade Campers will find creative ways to give back, while learning about how they can make a difference, strengthening their character and friendships along the way. BLOCK 10 Games Galore Come be part of a summer camp that continues to emphasize a vast exposure to a variety of sports and games. BLOCK 11 Artist Studio Draw it! Paint it! Sculpt it! There is no right or wrong when it comes to making art. Use your creativity to express your inner artist. BLOCK 12 Technology Stop With an emphasis on creativity, exploration, and friendship, campers discover new tech skills in an energetic, kid-friendly learning environment. Swimming & Academic Camp Rising 1st Rising 4th (On-Site) Swimming Lessons: The primary goals of the lessons are twofold; one, to help swimmers improve their technical skills, and two, to help educate and motivate swimmers to encourage their progress. Swimmers are taught in a structured and enjoyable environment that emphasizes individual improvement. The camp focuses on stroke instruction. Participants will be broken into smaller groups based upon age and ability, which will allow for individualized instruction. Each 2-week session is 4 days a week, Monday-Thursday, 8 classes total. Makeup's will be scheduled when time allows *** Academic Camp: Rising 1st Rising 8th (On-Site) Academic Camp is conducted within a small class setting, using a multi-sensory approach to teach reading, spelling and writing. The program builds auditory and visual memory, increases phonological processing, improves writing skills and phonemic awareness, and develops appropriate social, organizational and study skills. Enrollment into the course includes a personalized program plan that will help to pinpoint specific areas in need of improvement for each child. An End-of-Session- Report will highlight areas of progress, and will give educational recommendations outlining the student s academic strengths and weaknesses. Weekly Specialty Camps Mad Science- Week 2 Take a voyage of discovery into the atmosphere and beyond! Explore planets, moons and other space phenomena in our solar system. Discover the difficulties of space travel, the challenges of living in space and try assembling a satellite while training to be an astronaut. Campers will have lots of projects to make and to take home. Triangle Chess- Week 3 Enhance critical reasoning skills with chess this summer! We will have a lesson and practice time each day. Professional chess coaches from Triangle Chess will lead the camp. Both novice and intermediate chess players welcome. TGA Golf- Week 4 Each day includes station based instruction and fundamental drills. The program covers physical fitness, golf instruction, character development and rules/etiquette. This program is open to all skill levels! All equipment will be provided and each camper will also receive a TGA goody bag! Kids Painting Studio- Week 5 Young artists are invited to spend a morning catering to their creative side with our Kids Painting Studio. Each studio session will offer the opportunity to paint explore a different subject to learn more about composition, lighting, and detail. We will culminate our week by creating work on canvas to proudly display at home. Whether learning a new skill or refining technique, we hope to see you in the studio. TGA Tennis- Week 6 Each day will include station-based instruction, fundamental drills, play-based formats, rules & etiquette, as well as games, prizes and lots of fun! Weekly Specialty Camps Playwell LEGO Engineering- Week 7 With over 100,000 pieces of LEGO, take on real-life engineering challenges that explore concepts in physics, mechanical/structural engineering, and architecture. From motorized machines to castles & catapults, this is a hands-on and brains-on class suitable for LEGO building system novices to "maniacs." Soccer Shots- Week 8 Campers will be introduced to soccer fundamentals through the use of skill reinforcement in exciting drills and games. Fun for all skill levels! Carolina Legacy Cheer & Dance- Week 9 Geared toward teaching kids the fundamentals of cheerleading, tumbling, and dance. They will learn how to do cheerleading stunts, jumps, and motions; as well as a short dance. At the end of the week the campers will have a short cheerleading routine put together to perform for family and friends. Kidokinetics Baseball- Week 10 Designed to introduce kids to the fundamentals of baseball through a variety of skills, drills, and game play techniques. Fun for all skill levels! Tiger Rock Martial Arts- Week 11 Develop mental strength, personal protection skills, and gain lasting health & fitness benefits while learning classic martial arts. Give your camper the edge to succeed socially and academically with Johnson s educator tested program, only available through Tiger Rock Academies. NEW! 2 Week Specialty Camps Coding Camp: Rising 1st Rising 4th (On-Site) Create. Code. Tell Stories. Create a digital story and build a strong foundation of basic computer science skills at the same time. You will discover how to apply control commands, operators, input/output data, variables and sprites to write code in Scratch, a block-based programming language. This will be integrated with unplugged and computer-based activities supported by Google to get kids coding. Voice Camp: Rising 1st Rising 4th (On-Site) Express Yourself!!!
