RY 2014-15 Bulletin Issue No.19 Chartered 13 August 1980 Bulletin Editors: Nidhi, Cze Hong, William & Geoffrey Special Events : Ron, T C Phua & Tengku Rotary s Mission We provide service to others; promote integrity and advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through our fellowship of business, professional and community leaders. International Calendar: November is World Interact Week Lunch Meeting on Tuesday, 11 November 2014 Despite the rain, 13 Rotarians turned out at the the temporary venue of Saffron Bistro in Circular Road; to enjoy some excellent fellowship and a delicious lunch. After President Corina opened the meeting, awards were presented to CP Siew Joon, PP Aaron, PP Eugene and PP David Ong to mark their 100% attendance over the past 3 months. We all tucked into papadoms and accompanying relishes along with Malai chicken and samosa starters. This was followed by chicken tikka masala with dal and paneer dishes accompanied with rice and tasty assorted nan breads. With Jochen's job classification talk now postponed to 2 December due to the venue, plenty of informal warm fellowship followed until President Corina called the meeting to a close at 2pm and duly refreshed members once more braved the torrential rain to make their way back to work and home. President s Announcement Dear Friends, Tuesday 18 Nov, Ms Gina Teo shall be inducted as our 6 th Lady Member. Please join me in welcoming her. Attendance since the start of the Rotary Year: Corina Lai President Club attendance was just a fraction better than President Corina thought last month. There was also a makeup visit to the Rotary Club of Le Touquet Canche Authie in October by Rtn Geoff Hogg which passed unnoticed and was excluded was from the stats. It was an interesting new club in France only 7mths old, with 25 members average age 49; 35% ladies with a heavy medical and healthcare related bias. They meet every Wednesday evening 7.30 pm at the Auberge du Cronquelet, a charming old 17 century inn on the outskirts of Le Touquet. Serves magnificent food, but Rotarians only dine there together once per month. That wasn't the day Geoff was there! Had to make do with a glass of Chablis and some peanuts. Geoff brings greetings from their Lady President Marie Josephe Deshpande. 3 Rue de Montreuil 62170 Saint-Aubin http://www.aubergecronquelet.fr/ Weekly Meeting: The Singapore Cricket Club, Tuesday 12.45pm Page 3 of 6

Before We End HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE? Many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness. However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously. A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest. A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again. Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a hospital. Reported by Geoffrey Hoggs Weekly Meeting: The Singapore Cricket Club, Tuesday 12.45pm Page 6 of 6
