This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors. Access Statement for Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery Introduction Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery is a regional museum covering art, archaeology, natural history, local and social history as well as subjects that cross these disciplines. The museum is located in North West England in the historic city of Carlisle, close to the Scottish border. Tullie House Museum is set over three floors. The basement houses our Roman Frontier Gallery, our ground floor houses our gift shop, restaurant and exhibitions gallery. The first floor is home to the majority of the museum. Our Visitor Experience team is on hand throughout the Gallery and Museum should you require any assistance and offer collection conversations should you wish to find out more about our exciting collections. We look forward to welcoming you at Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery and if you have any queries or require any assistance prior to your visit please phone 01228 618718 or email enquires@tulliehouse.co.uk Pre-Arrival For directions of how to reach us, please use the directions section of our website. Alternatively, you can plan your journey by car or public transport using www.transportdirect.info; simply enter your postcode and ours, which is CA3 8TP to get directions. The nearest train station is Carlisle station. This is a 15 minute walk or 5-10 minute taxi ride away. There is a taxi rank located outside the train station and a number of local companies offer accessible services.

The museum is not on a direct bus route, however there are bus stops located at Carlisle Covered Market and on Caldewgate that would provide a 15 minute walk to the museum. Local bus routes can be found at https://www.stagecoachbus.com/ We do not offer a collection service. The streets surrounding the museum are main routes into/out of the city centre and are relatively level and in good condition. Apart from the street leading from the train station to the town centre, and the street the Museum is located on, all the streets are pedestrianised. Car Parking and Arrival There is no onsite car parking available at Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery, however the streets surrounding the museum entrances have one hour disc zone parking (please note: one hour is not enough time to experience the whole museum). The nearest car park to the museum is Castle Car Park which is a 5 minute walk from the museum and located at CA3 8UL. Prices for parking start at 1.00 for an hour and a full day is 2.50. This car park is situated next to a dual carriageway which needs to be crossed to get to the museum. There is both a bridge (which has a lift for people with limited access) and an underground pass (with a ramp for people with wheelchairs or pushchairs). There are three entrances to the Museum, one on Annetwell Street (main entrance), one of Castle Street and one on Abbey Street. All entrances to the museum are well lit, with the surrounding streets being further lit by nearby street lighting. Visitors can be dropped off easily near the main entrance to the museum. There are three steps leading up to the main entrance with a handrail on either side. There is also an access ramp with handrails on either side. Entrance from Castle Street side entrance
