We give our campers the chance to build confidence through skill building activities, positive developmental experiences and encouraging them to forge bonds with each other and staff. Campers experience a sense of achievement through opportunities in the outdoors and are welcomed to a physically and emotionally safe and stimulating environment. Here at YMCA Camp Greenknoll we raise the B.A.R. with our commitment to Belonging, Achieving goals and Relationship building. Our campers are able to explore creativity, team work and leadership in a wide range of physical activities that influence lifelong healthy living. They have the opportunity to enjoy an outdoor environment where they develop an appreciation of nature. Campers also participate in a variety of activities, including instructional swim, enrichment, STEAM, art education and others that are designed to build confidence and teach teamwork. Y-USA s new swim structure is designed with a skill-based approach to help children become independent in the water and build confidence. Learn about sea creatures, command the sea or save your tribe from a shipwreck. On Friday come dressed as a sea creature, a scuba diver, a mermaid or a pirate- whatever floats your boat! Week 2 7/1 Party at the Y Let s party at Camp Greenknoll for our party at the Y week. Play backyard games, enjoy some friendly competition and show your patriotic flare as we celebrate Independence Day! Week 3 7/8 Super Hero Grab your capes and masks and join the call for superheroes at Camp Greenknoll! Fight villains, sneak your way through obstacles and save the day at our superhero week. Be sure to remember your crime fighting outfit for dress up on Fun Friday! Week 4 7/15 Carnival Step right up! Come one, come all! Come to camp and have a ball! It s carnival week at Greenknoll; play games, win prizes but most importantly-have fun & make memories with friends! Week 5 7/22 Water Wars Water balloon fights, sponge relays, sprinklers-come fight the heat at Camp Greenknoll s water wars. The week will be spent playing various water games and end with a massive water war. But watch out, your friends may become your rivals when it comes to water- prepare to get soaked! Week 6 7/29 Color Wars One of the most anticipated weeks of the summer, come join as us at Camp Greenknoll for our annual Red vs. Blue color wars! Last year red stole back the trophy in a celebrated upset. Can blue team be stronger this year to reclaim the trophy or will red continue to be reigning champs? It all depends on you! Week 7 8/5 Camp Show A week of song, dance, memories and hilarious outtakes. Come to our camper show week as each tribe creates its own unique performance to present to camp & families on Friday. Rain didn t stop the awesomeness last year! Week 8 8/12 Olympics Sean has been training all year in preparation for Greenknoll s return of Olympics games. Do you think you ve got what it takes to compete, or even win the gold? Come find out! Week 9 8/19 Luau The end of the summer send off- come celebrate the last the summer days in our Luau. Limbo, sing and dance with friends, slide down a giant water slide, but don t forget to say your goodbyes! page 3
Counselor in Training (CIT) Program Our counselor in training program is focused on developing strong leaders through discussion, observation and supervised child interaction. This is a program for 14 and 15 years olds serious about working with children and improving their leadership skills. CITs learn the value of teamwork, community service and decision-making through activities and mentoring. The most important part of the CIT program is the hands on experience they will have working with campers while being guided by the CIT Coordinator. Candidates are required to fill out a CIT application. Once the application is received an interview will be scheduled. CITs will have the opportunity to attend field trips. Field Trips will focus on building confidence, team work and fun. The CIT program will be limited to 25 CITS PER WEEK. Greenknoll Gators 2 Huckleberry Hill Road, Brookfield Contact: Sarah Basile, Head Developmental Age Group Coach E: sbasile@regionalymca.org P: 203.775.1077 The Greenknoll Gators Camp Swim Team is a great opportunity for YMCA campers to strengthen their swimming skills in a fun environment. Each week, swimmers work on developing stroke techniques and water safety. Plus, campers now have the chance to show their skills at the end of summer Stateline League Competition! The Gators will be led by members of the Mako Swim Club coaching staff and will swim from 4:00-5:00pm in the outdoor pool Monday - Thursday. Indoors, children have the opportunity to play board games, computer games, stay out of the sun and stay cool in our air-conditioned space. Children also have the space for small groups and individual play. Outdoors, children have the opportunity to participate in different activities such as ropes courses and team building (age requirements), music and nature, as well as use of the playground, sand, outdoor pool, and gaga pit. Children at Summer Club will also participate in YMCA Camp Greenknoll Fun Day Friday activities. The Summer Club at Greenknoll will also take field trips to several off-site locations, like Lake Compounce and Splash Down Beach, in addition to participating in several in-house field trip programs that provide workshops at our facility. Swimming Each Monday children are tested and placed in the appropriate swim level. During the week children are taught appropriately. At the end of the week children are retested, some children may remain at their level and some may up move up to the next level. Swim is offered twice per day, morning is instructional and afternoon is recreational. Some children, regardless of age may require a life vest. Life vests are given to campers based on their swimming ability, and in some cases their height. It is at the discretion of the Aquatic staff. Swim Instruction is taught by Red Cross Certified instructors. Field Trips Field trips include both off-site field trips, like Lake Compounce and Splash Down Beach, as well as in-house field trips where organizations like MadScience and the ClayPen come to our facility to provide interactive workshops and learning activities. At Grassy Plain Summer Club, summer is the time for ADVENTURE, EXPLORATION and FUN! Our FABulous program centers on three areas proven to impact kids development: Friendship, Accomplishment and Belonging. Our highly trained staff helps campers ages 5-12 realize that the Y is a place where they belong and can be themselves while trying new things, building new skills and making new friends. Campers are encouraged to pursue their interests through daily activities and theme weeks culminating with an in-house special enrichment program or some other type of amusement! There are opportunities to connect with nature and spend time outside being physically active participating in experiences that influence lifelong healthy habits and also opportunities to keep skills fresh all summer long with fun, engaging literacy and math activities. There are opportunities to foster campers creative abilities such as Art, Drama and Writing and ones to inspire wonder and ignite creativity through weekly STEAM projects. But most importantly, there are opportunities to reconnect with the simple joys of being a kid: Swimming, Laughing, Singing, Dancing, Crafting, Exploring, Swinging, Sliding, Playing and more! On Friday, we will participate in a special Ninja Warrior Junior Course. Week 2 6/24 Welcome to the Officially kicking off our camp will be a week spent working together Hidden Temple to complete various challenges and games. Join the Purple Parrots, Red Jaguars, Green Monkeys, Silver Snakes & Blue Barracudas as they guide us through the Legends of the Hidden Temple. To finish off our week, we will be doing a special inflatable obstacle course! Week 3 7/1 Holiday Hoopla Instead of only celebrating America s Birthday this week, we will celebrate Valentine s Day, Friendsgiving & New Years as well! All week we will celebrate holidays from all around the year. On Friday, join us for the famous Patriotic Barbeque and lawn games! Week 4 7/8 Cosmic Carnival Step right up to our week of all things cosmic and all things carnival! We will combine space themes with carnival themes and have a COSMIC CARNIVAL at the end of the week with games and treats. Our Camp Carnival is sure to be out of this world. Week 5 7/15 Magic of Science Throughout this week we will do various magical science experiments. We will uncover the secrets behind how things work! On Friday, we will all be WOWED by a wonderful magic show. Week 6 7/22 Game On Let s get ready to rumble! During this week, campers will train all week for the main event! We will learn about different sports and from around the world (including America), and bring the Olympics right here to the Y. On Friday, we will have GIANT board games and a moon bounce. Don t forget to bring your team spirit! Week 7 7/29 Just Keep Swimming Dive into this fun week with some beach and water themed activities. Activities include Super Soaker Day, a water balloon toss and on Friday we will have one of our camp favorites: the inflatable waterslide! Week 8 8/5 Camp Casting Call Welcome to the YMCA Walk of Fame! We will cook, do trivia, tackle challenging math problems, sing, dance, juggle and anything else that our campers have a talent for! On Friday, we will take a trip to the movie theaters and have a camp-wide talent show! Week 9 8/12 Color Games Everybody loves a little friendly competition! Bring your team pride to camp this week as we earn points for our group. Wear your group s color all week and show your spirit! We will be closing out the summer with a BURST of color. page 11

We provide a fun summer learning experience through the arts with a variety of week-long programs.
