The Inside Loop Monthly News Letter of the Fly-A-Ways R/C Club President s Soapbox It s time to surface the runway! I need to get the ground staples out of the cab of my truck.they ve been there since last August. Here s the plan for Friday April 15 and Saturday April 16. A 3 ton double roller and a (much smaller) power rake will arrive at the field by mid-morning Friday. Those able to come out on Friday can help experimenting with use of the power rake on both runways. The real purpose for the rake is to scuff up the grass runway for re-seeding. It might also work on the surfaced runway to help remove the last of the small grass clumps that Glenn couldn t get raked out last Fall. If we don t get them out we ll just roll them again and let em rot under the mat. Oh, ya, the roller..the plan is to roll the runway again, and the infield to smooth things out. We should be able to bring in some more rock for the road, and roll it, too. The rock and roller action would also be on Friday. Saturday is for finishing any prep work that couldn t get April 2011 There was a great turn out for the work party in March to build the setup tables and start-up benches. Many thanks to Jim McCord for the use of his warehouse space to build (Continued on page 2) (Continued on page 2) Next meeting 7:00 PM April 19, 2011 North Plains Fire Station 1
(Continued from page 1) finished on Friday, and surface the runway with the mat. The goal is to get the mat down on the runway. There s extra mat to use for the pilot stations and pit area.that might happen later. Please come out for either or both days. We ll need the most help on Saturday to roll out the mat, seal the edges, and get it stapled. Sunday could be used for contingency.but I d rather be flying off the new runway! Thanks to Jim McCord for the use of his warehouse to build set-up tables and starting benches on Saturday, March 19. I believe we had a crew of 14 turn out (the donuts & coffee worked!). Four hours later we had 4 tables and 4 benches fully assembled and the tables painted. We could use 2 volunteers with pickups to join my truck and trailer to convoy the tables from Jim s to the field. Please give me a call if you can help. Glenn White will be flailing the infield to scalp the grass back super short. That will get it ready for our lawn tractor to take over mowing duty. By the way would anyone like to be named Field Marshall and take responsibility for the bulk of the mowing? Volunteers accepted. Another important date to remember is Saturday, July 23. That s the date now set for our Field Dedication Ceremony. More on that later. Keep pressure on the legislature to exempt our hobby from upcoming FAA regulations to be imposed on small unmanned aircraft systems (suas). If you haven t done it yet, please go to the AMA website and contact your legislators through the form letter provided. The AMA has done all the work. All you need to do is click a couple of times. Keep your engines running! Scott E. and store the benches! Cliff brought lots of doughnuts and Jim provided the coffee to keep everyone the unloading of the materials. Materials were sorted into kits, work groups were formed juiced up for the activities. Once everyone was awake and ready, the fun commenced with and plans were distributed. Once the first table and startup bench assembly process was figured out the completion of the remaining fixtures proceeded rapidly and efficiently. Everyone who showed up was put to work and we all had a great time working together to make our new home a reality. The finished products look great and will be a wonderful addition to our new field! 2
