City transport City transport was used by 269.9 million passengers in November, 2.5% more than in the same month of 2017. Subway transport registered an increase of 4.5% in the annual rate. Málaga s subway presented the largest increase (9.5%). Among the cities with subway, the greatest increase in bus transport was registered in Palma (4.7%), while the greatest decrease was registered in Málaga (-1.9%). City transport by bus increased by 1.2% in November, as compared with the same month of 2017. The number of bus transport passengers registered the greatest increases in Canarias (4.5%), Cataluña (3.6%) and Principado de Asturias (1.8%). In turn, bus transport passengers decreased in Extremadura (-4.2%) and Castilla La Mancha (-0.4%). City transport by bus. Inter-city transport More than 118.9 million passengers used inter-city transport in November, representing a 2.5% increase as compared with the same month of 2017. By type of transport, air transport increased by 7.3%, bus transport by 3.1%, rail transport by 1.7% and maritime transport by 0.5%. Local distance passengers increased by 3.6% for bus transport and by 1.2% for rail transport. Regional distance passengers increased by 2.1% for bus transport and 3.7% for rail transport. Finally, long distance passengers increased by 2.0% for bus transport and by 8.8% for rail transport. Within the last one, AVE (high speed railway) increased by 9.0%. The number of special transport passengers increased by 0.1%, and exceeded 33.5 million users. Within this, work transport increased by 0.6%, while school transport decreased by 0.1%. In turn, unscheduled transport increased 3.4%, as compared with the same month of 2017, reaching more than 14.7 million passengers. Review and update of data Coinciding with today's publication, the INE has updated the data of the PT series corresponding to the same month of the previous year. Methodological note The purpose of the Passenger Transport Statistics is to provide monthly information regarding the number of passengers by city transport (bus and subway), inter-city transport (road, rail, air and sea) and special and unscheduled bus transport. Bus transport is investigated by means of a sample survey. For rail transport, the number of passengers is calculated using the information provided by railway operators (RENFE and other state companies). The information for air transport is provided by Civil Aviation, and for sea transport, the number of passengers disembarked is compiled using the information from State Ports. Type of survey: monthly continuous survey. Population scope: companies involved in passenger transport regardless of their main activity. Geographical scope: the entire national territory. Reference period of the results: the month. Reference period of the information: the month. Sample size: approximately 1,500 companies. Type of sampling: stratified random sampling of companies, by Autonomous Community, number of employees and type of transport. Collection method: completion of the questionnaire by the respondent using one of the following methods: internet (IRIA system), e-mail, fax, telephone or by postal mail.
