Introduction What is AFRAA? A trade association of airlines which hail from the nations of the African Union. Founded in Accra, Ghana, in 1968, and today headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. The primary purpose of AFRAA is to foster commercial and technical co-operation among African airlines and to represent their common interests. The Association s members (37 airlines) represent over 83% of total international traffic carried by all African airlines.

AFRAA Projects and Steering To accomplish its objectives, the Association has the following Steering Committees and Projects: Fuel Purchase Route Network Coordination Ground Handling Training Cargo Committees

AFRAA Training unit Develops and promotes highest safety, quality, security, commercial standards and customer services through training activities: seminars, workshops, courses. AFRAA is committed to the development of people so that African aviation continues to grow using highly trained and capable personnel.

AFRAA Training Unit Contd To cater for the aviation training needs, AFRAA Training Unit has classified as follows: Safety and Quality related courses Security courses Managerial/Commercial courses Skills courses

AFRAA Training Unit Contd Facilitators and resource persons World class standards approved by their relevant CAAs. Wide and extensive experience and proficiency in the relevant fields. Experienced, competent and capable resource persons from member airlines bring their expertise and knowledge of the African aviation business.

Highlights AFRAA Training Unit Contd Main focus for 2012-2014: Safety courses to facilitate IOSA process in various airlines. Various airlines undertook training and became IOSA certified. Focus for 2015: Managing costs to increase profitability of airlines Focus for 2016: Focus on safety and security courses to improve the safety image of the continent. Hundreds of participants trained every year.

Some partners: Industry, manufacturers, suppliers and solution providers e.g. Boeing Embraer, Sabre Airline Solutions. IATA through the IATA Airline Training Fund (IATF) AFSAC Training Center Aster Training Training Partnerships

Conclusion AFRAA continues to prioritize capacity development for African aviators and regular training of member airlines personnel. Cooperation with industry is key to achieve the best training results for the growth of the African airline industry.
