CROATIA HOLIDAY CODE FCY Family friendly cycling holiday along coastal tracks, through olive groves and vineyards Cycling for 4 days on rural roads, tracks and through National Parks Sea kayak, snorkel, swim and visit a cave in Croatia's most beautiful fjord Dinosaur footprints, fossils and ice cream in Kamenjak National Park Cycle through mysterious tunnels on the old Parenzana railway track Croatia, Family, Cycling, 8 Days 7 nights hotel, 7 breakfasts, 5 lunches, 1 dinners, max group size: 14, 4 days cycling, 1 day kayaking

PAGE 2 VIEW DATES, PRICES & BOOK YOUR HOLIDAY HERE Introduction Immersed in the sparkling blue of the Adriatic Sea and known for its wonderful food and warm, sunny days, there is something magical about the Croatian peninsula of Istria. Home to meandering country lanes, hidden coves, hill top villages, old railway lines and plenty of places serving delicious ice cream, Istria is the perfect place for a family cycling holiday. We've mixed cycling routes with cave visits, a spot of snorkelling, plenty of time for swimming in the warm sea, tasty picnics and some family friendly sea kayaking in the beautiful fjord of Lim. We'll cycle on undulating roads and tracks which take us through vineyards and olive groves, plus peddle along the old railway track of the Paranzana. With it's pretty views, hill top town and picturesque rivers, the Parenzana also hides secret tunnels which we'll discover. A holiday highlight is a day sea kayaking in the calm waters of Lim fjord where we'll stop at wild beaches to swim and snorkel before exploring a bat cave. Based in the seaside resort of Porec and the beautiful Venetian town of Rovinj, we really get to experience the very best of Istria including its excellent food. Evening meals will be spent in local restaurants or outside on piazzas, and with plenty of family friendly menus on offer, you'll find everything from pizzas and pasta to local Istrian specialities alongside excellent wines that the region is famous for. Basing ourselves in only two places means less packing and unpacking and more time for activities and relaxing. If you're looking to cycle with your family and make new friends, plus have all the peddling routes and activities taken care of, then this wonderful Croatian family adventure holiday won't disappoint. Is this holiday for you? Suitable for children aged 7yrs + We cycle on a mix of tarmac and gravel tracks. The majority of these are rural single track roads. The terrain is mainly flat with the occasional undulating section. There will be the occasional short section where either crossing a larger road with traffic or following it for a short distance is necessary. We will usually walk with the bike on these sections if we do not wish to cycle or we might be able to cycle on the pavement (depending on the amount of pedestrians). The longest cycling day is 30km (which would be a maximum of around 3-4 hours cycling at a very slow speed), and we can take all day doing this if we need to. All the days are designed to enjoy some cycling, alongside swimming and generally relaxing and being on holiday. Your guide will ensure that regular stops are taken and that everyone is happy and jollied along if required. Holiday Itinerary Day 1: Arrive Pula Airport. Single timed transfer to Vrsar on the Adriatic Coast. KE Land only package services begin with a single timed transfer from Pula Airport to our hotel in Vrsar on the coast. This old fishing town is a delight with its seafront promenade, stunning sunsets, winding streets, pavement cafés and old stone houses. Most buildings are painted white giving it a very summer Mediterranean feel against a beautiful deep blue sky backdrop. The warm glistening sea and boats bobbing in the harbour all exude the atmosphere that gives charm and holiday feel. This afternoon we pick up our hire bikes at the shop and then go to the hotel and settle in. Our guide then gives us a briefing about the week ahead. If time allows are can pop down to the nearby beach for our first swim. We have a welcome dinner and a good nights sleep.

PAGE 3 ACCOMMODATION HOTEL MEALS D Day 2: Cycle along the old railway line of Parenzana. Today is an ideal start to our family holiday with some cycling on flat trails away from any traffic. Known as the wine railway (parents will be pleased to know!), the Parenzana Railway was built to link Porec, here on the Croatian coast with Trieste in Italy, and was operational between 1905 and 1935. It is now a super cycle way and is made all the more interesting by peddling through tunnels and over old bridges till we arrive at the old train station! There is no rush today as we cycle. We start at the pretty, medieval hill-top village of Groznjan, around 50mins transfer, which overlooks the valley of the Mirna River. Dating from around the year 1100, Groznjan is today known as a centre for artists and artisans. We will explore its timeless streets on foot, where it seems every doorway leads to an artist's studio. We have our picnic lunch with us and will eat this at a suitable spot along the route with some nice views and shade. Our ride is eastwards through rolling countryside above the Mirna River, to the truffle centre of Livade, where we will visit a truffle shop and have the chance to taste this much sought-after delicacy. We have time to stop at one of the pavement cafés for an ice-cream or coffee. We cycle a little further to the village of Motovun and here we meet our vehicle and transfer back to our hotel in Vsrar. ACCOMMODATION HOTEL MEALS BL ASCENT 550M DESCENT 700M DISTANCE 29KM TIME 3-4 HRS CYCLING HOURS GPS DATA VIEW NOW Day 3: Circular cycle route along the coast to the Baredine Caves. Starting out in Porec (20mins drive) we bike on single track rural roads on a mix of tarmac and gravel, along coast and bays with beautiful views out across the sparkling sea. If we have time we can stop for a cool drink in one of the seaside cafés. Leaving the sea we go through olive groves to the village of Tar. It is incredibly peaceful and relaxing riding. After Tar we cycle south-westerly and head down another rural road to the Baredine caves where we stop to explore this interesting site. Our tour of the caves explores several chambers and tunnels down to 132m underground. They are well lit and maintained paths. In the caves we might be able to see the rare 'cave olm', a small salamander which is endemic to this Dinaric Karst region. Leaving the caves we hop on our bikes again and cycle along rural paths back to Porec and then our hotel. We will have time to enjoy a swim in the sea on our return before our guide suggests somewhere for dinner. ACCOMMODATION HOTEL MEALS BL ASCENT 300M DESCENT 300M DISTANCE 30KM TIME 4 HRS CYCLING HOURS GPS DATA VIEW NOW Day 4: Sea Kayaking, snorkelling and swimming at Lim 'Fjord'. Today we take a break from the bikes and enjoying another activity in this beautiful region. We have a day sea kayaking along Lim 'Fjord'. Not geographically a fjord, but locally called this, because it is not carved from glacial ice, and it does not have steep sides, just gentle green undulating ones, and warm turquoise waters - this channel is 35km long connecting the sea and the Pazincica River. It is a government protected area, so no motorised boats are allowed on the waters, making it an ideal place for us to kayak along. There are lots of places to stop on our journey today down the fjord. We might have lunch at a remote beach, only accessible from the channel, where we can enjoy a snorkel and a swim. At the end of the fjord we walk into Romuald's cave. This 105 m long cave has several impressive chambers, with evidence from prehistoric times and animals such as bears, lions and even

PAGE 4 hyena. Now it is protected because of the large number of bats who dwell here. The legend is that a hermit St. Romuald lived here in the 11th Century. This is a beautiful day on the water in these warm climes, the children and adults will enjoy it alike. In the afternoon we transfer to our new hotel base in Rovinj. Here we can enjoy an icecream or a glass of wine as we unwind. Fresh fish (combined with a glass of Malvasia) is a popular choice at dinner this evening. ACCOMMODATION HOTEL DISTANCE 8KM GPS DATA VIEW NOW MEALS BL TIME 2-3 HRS KAYAKING HOURS Day 5: Free day in Rovinj. Swimming or boat trip. There are no planned activities today, so we can relax a bit and do our own thing. Rovinj is said to be one of the most picturesque towns in the Mediterranean - the 'Pearl of Adriatic' - it has colourful houses on the water front, a distinctive church and bell-tower. It is full of cobbled streets and piazzas, with ice-cream parlours and cafés serving good coffee and wine! There are several beautiful beaches in walking distance, or a short taxi ride away, which we can spend some time at. There is also an option to go on a full or half day boat trip out to the Brijuni Islands National Park. These were the summer residence of Tito which was beneficial for the park with the renewed forests and land. We can walk here or swim on the beaches. The nearby Punta Corrente Forest Park is also delightful for a walk and its beaches. The choice is yours. In the evening we have the option of all meeting up and enjoying one of the many restaurants serving food on the terraces outside in the warm night air. ACCOMMODATION HOTEL MEALS B Day 6: Cycle along the coastal lanes from Rovinj to Palud Cove reserve. We set off this morning on the bikes again and cycle south-westerly along the coast, and through pretty little villages. Again, today the route is almost all flat. The area of Palud Cove, which is just 8km away, is the first and only ornithological reserve in Istria, providing habitat for over 200 bird species. Motor vehicles are not allowed into the reserve, but we can explore the trails on our bikes. It is a very peaceful area and there is a small rocky beach were we can have a swim and enjoy our picnic. We then return along the coast to the medieval town of Bale. From here we transfer back to Rovinj. Back in Rovinj we might have some time to visit another beach before we find another restaurant for tonight's dinner. ACCOMMODATION HOTEL DISTANCE 20KM MEALS BL TIME 2-3 HRS CYCLYING HOURS Day 7: Cycle around Cape Kamenjack to Medulin. We have a short transfer this morning to the most southern peninsula of Istria, the Cape Kamenjack. This isthmus is surrounded by a coastline of 30km, including bays, white beaches and crystal clear blue waters. It's stunningly beautiful. We cycle from here to the village of Medulin. Along the way we will stop for some swimming, and can guarantee an ice-cream stop as well. For those interested there are 22 orchid species in this area. We also see the fossilised dinosaur footprints and an ammonite preserved on the flat rock here. To enhance the experience there is a model dinosaur lurking in the bushes along the trail! After our bike ride we transfer to Pula, the largest city in Istria. It has an incredible Roman amphitheatre, and a long history of wine-making. We have some free time to explore this city, or have an optional visit to the Pula Aquarium which is located in an old fort of the Austro- Hungarian monarchy. We return to Rovinj at the end of the day. Tonight our guide will suggest a nice restaurant for a celebratory final dinner in this glorious and peaceful part of Mediterranean Europe.

For the rest of the dinners your tour leader will suggest a suitable local tavern or restaurant and if you wish make reservations for the group, or just your family. Food & Water Croatia has a fantastic variety of food due to the rich influence of the Mediterranean and Central Europe, which means that there is something for everyone s tastes. Breakfasts are continental in style with bread, cheese, meats, jams, tea and coffee etc. Due to its close proximity to Italy there are few towns on the coast without a pizzeria, which are always simple, reasonably priced and excellent. Whilst on the coast fresh seafood is extremely popular and should be sampled. Croatians enjoy fresh vegetables and side salads with dinner, alongside turkey, pork, chicken or fish. Cevapcici are very thin sausages, or kebabs, made from minced meat and are a popular local dish. There will always be a choice for vegetarians too with Italian risottos, gnocchi and pastas on most menus. Alongside the excellent food, Croatian wine is fantastic and very reasonably priced. Good quality wines are available by the glass and Croatians prefer to buy wine by the glass, half litre or litre. After dinner digestives are extremely popular in Croatia and worth a try, ranging from the warming and delicious honey, walnut and blackberry brandies to the fiery pear, herb and plum schnapps! Many places on this holiday have drinkable water from the tap to fill your personal water bottles. Please check with the leader at the various locations. Please take purification tablets or a filter bottle (such as a Water-To-Go bottle) for days when drinking water out of the tap is not available. We do not encourage the purchasing of single use plastic bottles. Special Diets Whilst we can cater for vegetarians, albeit sometimes with a more limited choice, we cannot provide special diets. Due to the nature of the trips that we operate and the countries in which we operate them, it can be very hard (and sometimes impossible) to cater for a wide range of dietary choices and you may have to supplement your diet with food/snacks from home. If you have specific dietary requirements please do speak to our sales team and they will be able to advise you whether or not we will be able to offer your specific choice. Please note that we are unable to provide separate menus and cannot accept liability for any problems arising from special dietary requirements or intolerances. When you book a holiday with KE you will receive 15% discount voucher from Cotswold Outdoor and other retailers. >> Find out more General Information Passport & Visas A passport with 6 months remaining validity at the end of your stay is generally required for visits to countries outside the EU. The information that we provide is for UK passport holders. Please check the relevant embassy or consulate for other nationalities. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the correct travel documents and visas for your holiday. Visa requirements and charges are subject to change without notice. If you are travelling outside the EU you should have at least 2 blank pages in your passport for each country that you visit. Visa Europe UK and USA passport holders do not require a visa. The European Commission announced in November 2018 that, even in a no-deal scenario, UK travellers can still visit the EU without a visa, providing the same is offered to European citizens visiting the UK. From 2021, UK citizens will need to pay a fee (of around 7 Euros) as part of a new electronic travel authorisation system applying to all third country visitors to the EU. After 29 March 2019, if the UK leaves the EU without a deal, UK passport holders should ensure your passport has at least 6 months validity beyond your date of arrival. This applies to adult and child passports. If you renewed your UK passport before it expired, extra months may have been added to your new passport s expiry date. Any extra months beyond 10 years from the date of issue may not count towards the 6 months that should be remaining. You can check whether or not your current passport will be valid for your chosen holiday using this official government link: https://www.passport.service.gov.uk/check-a-passport Health & Vaccinations Severe Allergies If you have a severe allergy please inform the KE office before you travel. We will do all we can to help, but we cannot guarantee an allergy free environment on KE trips. You will need to carry your own treatment for the allergy with you, as 'adrenaline auto-injectors' are not carried as standard by KE leaders and staff. You should inform your leader on arrival of your allergy, and let them know where you keep your adrenaline pen. You should contact your doctor or travel clinic to check whether you require any specific vaccinations. UK residents should obtain a free European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). This entitles you to state provided medical treatment, but is not a substitute for medical travel insurance which is still vital when travelling overseas.

PAGE 9 Currency The unit of currency in Europe is the Euro. Electricity Supply & Plug We recommend you check if you require an adaptor for your electrical items at: http://www.worldstandards.eu/electricity/plugs-and-sockets/ Preparing For Your Holiday Getting some additional exercise before coming on an active holiday makes a lot of sense. The fitter you are, after all, the more enjoyable you will find the experience. Climate The Istrian Peninsula has a pleasant Mediterranean climate with mild winters, and dry, warm summers, with an average of 2400 hours of sunshine per year. The best time to visit Istria is in the period from April - October period. Highest temperatures in summer months (July and August) and are an average of 24-25⁰C during this period, although it can get much hotter. And the water temperature at the same time can be similar. It's also the time when the gentle maestral, a lovely sea breeze that blows from the sea towards the land. In October the temperatures are an average for 15-16⁰C, and during May around 17-18⁰C with less average rainfall. Travel Aware As a reputable tour operator, KE supports the British Foreign & Commonwealth Offices' Travel Aware campaign to enable British citizens to prepare for their journeys overseas. The 'Travel Aware' website provides a single, authoritative source of advice for all kinds of travellers and we recommend that prior to travel, all KE clients visit the official UK Government website at travelaware.campaign.gov.uk and read the FCO Travel Advice for their chosen destination. North Americans can also check out the U.S. Department of State website: www.travel.state.gov for essential travel advice and tips. KE treat the safety and security of all clients as the most important aspect of any trip we organise. We would not run any trip that we did not consider reasonably safe. Should the FCO advise against travel for any reason, we will contact everyone booked to travel to discuss the situation. We receive regular updates direct from the FCO and are in constant touch with our contacts on the ground. If you have any questions about government travel advice, please call our office. Single Use Plastic KE do not encourage the use of single use plastic items. We are ensuring that our agents all over the world are working together to reduce the problem and educate those around them. We are leading by example in our KE office by reducing our plastic use. We have pledged to AITO s Project Protect that 70% of our agents stop using single use plastic bottles.

Operating since 1984, KE Adventure Travel has some of the most experienced staff in the business, with the proven ability to set up and operate a worldwide programme of adventures. Everyone has adventure travel at heart and joins at least one trip a year. It is this depth of experience that makes KE stand out from other adventure travel operators. When you contact KE, by phone or e-mail, or visit our office, you will find the help and advice you need, from someone who has actually done the trip and can give you the benefit of their first-hand experience. KE can guarantee the very best in trip support, excellent food, a good standard of hotel and other accommodation, plus the back up of one of the most respected companies in the business. Client satisfaction is at the top of our agenda and almost 50% of our bookings each year come from repeat business. If you are looking for adventure then look no further than KE. Group Tour Leaders All of our holidays are accompanied by an experienced leader, some of whom have worked with KE groups for many years. Many are professional guides and instructors with an unrivalled knowledge of the areas in which they work. In many parts of the world, we recruit local guides with appropriate training and experience. In addition to having the technical skills to ensure your safety, KE expects its leaders to be active members of the group. A leader should be fun to travel with and ready to share with you their enthusiasm for adventure travel and their knowledge of the area. Alongside the group leader, there will be a local support crew, which could be just a driver, or a complete team of guides, drivers, porters, mule-herders and cooks. The hard work of our support crews, along with the fascinating insight they can offer into their local culture, is integral to providing you with the very best adventure travel experience.

PAGE 11 Sustainable Tourism Since we ran our first trip in 1984, we have been committed keeping the world's most beautiful places pristine by minimising our environmental impact. Recognising the fragility of the world's wilderness environments, we keep our groups small and operate according to a Mountain Code, which is provided to all groups, trek leaders, agents and staff. We make sure that our local staff are well treated and well paid, we respect indigenous cultures, take care to protect the environment of the places we visit and take every opportunity to make a positive contribution wherever we travel. Our philosophy of 'leaving nothing but footprints' has been integral to KE's approach right from the start over 30 years ago. In recognition of our efforts we are proud to have achieved the highest award of 5 Stars for Sustainable Tourism by AITO. We continue to travel responsibly, and more information on our policy, practice, and specific projects can be found at www.keadventure.com, and on the website of our partner charity the Juniper Trust: www.junipertrust.co.uk. KE's Mountain Code is issued to our staff, trek leaders and overseas agents, and we recommend it to our clients, too! Booking Your Holiday The easiest way to make your booking is online. You will need to pay a deposit at the time of booking. This is normally 200 but for some holidays with special permit fees or internal flights, this may be more. The amount of deposit required for an individual holiday is given on the dates and prices page of the holiday. Late bookings will require full payment. We cannot confirm any booking until we receive your fully completed booking form. Adventure Travel Insurance It is a condition of joining any of our trips that you are insured against medical and personal accident risks (to include repatriation costs, air ambulance and helicopter rescue services). We also strongly recommend that you take out holiday cancellation insurance, as all deposits paid are non-refundable. Please ensure that your insurer is aware of your KE Adventure itinerary and can agree to cover the activities being undertaken. You will then need to advise us of your policy details and complete an Insurance Declaration Form. CAMPBELL IRVINE DIRECT travel insurance is available to EU residents and will cover the majority of KE Adventure holidays. It has been designed to provide cover for activities normally excluded by other insurers such as trekking, mountain biking and climbing. Please note that certain activities may attract a higher premium. In addition Campbell Irvine Direct cannot provide cover for KE climbing trips above 6000m. Cover for these can be obtained through either the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) or Snowcard. TRAVELEX is a USA based insurer offering travel insurance, which can be used by US citizens and US residents only. KE recommends the "Travelex Select" package for our holidays. If your holiday involves using mountaineering equipment (ropes, harness or crampons), for climbing or glacial travel, you should consider the "Adventure Plus Pak" optional upgrade on the Travelex Select Plan. Please refer to the 'Description of Coverage' for a summary of the terms, conditions, exclusions and limitations of the applicable Protection Plan. This policy will also cover KE climbing trips above 6000m. We hope that this trip notes has answered most of your questions.
