Matthew is a Guthrie Center native and will be starting his sophomore year at Central College in Pella, Iowa this fall, where he is majoring in exercise science. Matthew was involved in 4-H and other activities in Guthrie County. He brings an outgoing personality, with a positive attitude, and his knowledge of 4-H will be a big asset to our office. Women in Ag Program MISSED the FIRST One???? No Worries!!!! Come LEARN & have FUN!!!!! Mike Witt will is hosting a bi-weekly program for women in agronomy this Spring and Summer. The program will began in May and will continue this month at 6:30pm on every other Wednesday nights. This program is bringing together women in the agricultural industry to learn more about Iowa crop production. The goal of the program is to allow for better decision making, provide a better communication with their spouse, farming partner, ag retailer, and tenant. Topics will include crop growth and development, pasture management, pest management principles, scouting techniques, cover crop and water quality, and more. For all youth having completed K - 3rd grades Lake Life: Search and investigate lakes and streams for aquatic life. This camp includes learning how to fish from the best. Date: Friday, June 23rd at the Springbrook Beach Time: 1:00 pm 4:00 pm snacks will be provided Limit 30 participants Hike Through Time: Explore the forest as you hike through Springbrook Park while you learn about geology, glaciers, and Native American Burial Mounds! Then take part in a camouflage game. Date: Wednesday, July 26th at Springbrook Beach Time: 9:00 am 12:00 pm snacks will be provided Limit 30 participants For all youth having completed 4th - 8th grade Ultimate Survival Camp: Join us at Springbrook to learn how to survive in the wild by learning first aid and fire building. Kayak through Springbrook and take part in the Survival Adventure Team Challenge! Date: Thursday, June 22 rd at the Springbrook Beach Time: 9:00 am 3:00 pm Lunch and snacks are provided Limit 30 participants Critter Cribs: Explore the habitats and homes of the animals of Springbrook! Explore different habitats and learn to identify the animals that live there. 3rd Grader Farm Safety Day *3Rd Graders from Coon Rapids, AC/GC, Panorama, & West Central Valley Beginning Farmer Night June 15, 2017 At 6 pm at Guthrie County Extension Office. Guthrie County Extension and Outreach is hosting a Beginning Farmer night in Guthrie Center on June 15 at 6pm. The event will be held at the Extension office at 212 State Street and is free to attend. There will be a variety of speakers in this informative meeting, and will be a great opportunity for producers to get answers to their questions. Steve Ferguson of the Iowa Ag Development Division will be sharing information and updates pertaining to the Iowa Beginning farmer tax credit and loans. The local USDA Farm Service Agency loan manager will share information about USDA beginning farmer loans. Dave Baker, ISU Farm Transition specialist, will be discussing the services available through the Iowa Beginning Farmer Center. Shane Ellis, ISU Farm Management Specialist, will discuss the resources available from ISU Extension and the Ag Decision Maker Website. Those who are starting out in agriculture and those who work with them are encouraged to attend. A light meal will be served before the program.
