Gulf Island Hopper Cruise June 28 July 7, 2013 Come join the fun as we travel through the sunny Gulf Islands! We have lined up some great anchorages and marinas to explore!
Leg 1: First Narrows to Pirates Cove, DeCourcy Island (Anchorage) Distance = 27.8 nm (+ 10 nm from Reed Point Marina) Our first hop and first stop is the beautiful anchorage of Pirate s Cove. Located at the southeast end of De Courcy Island, this is one of the most beautiful places to experience by boat! For those of you that don t plan to leave until Saturday, we are there for 2 nights, so lots of time to get settled in! This is a very popular destination complete with a marine park for great walks and hikes!
Leg 2: Pirates Cove to Genoa Bay Marina (www.genoabaymarina.com) Distance Overall = 25.8 nm Genoa Bay Marina Contact Info: Telephone: (250) 746-7621 VHF 66A This is a great marina, owned by 2 brothers that have always welcomed our group. The Squadron hasn t been here in quite a few years and many of you haven t experienced this destination yet, so there s no better time! Beautiful setting with a well stocked store, art gallery/gift shop and a great restaurant as well. Alternative: Maple Bay Marina (250) 746-8482
Leg 3: Genoa Bay Marina to Todd Inlet (Anchorage) Distance Overall = 13.4 nm Located in Gowlland Provincial Park, Tod Inlet is a spectacular waterway to experience. The scenery is gorgeous and the creekside trails are abundant. A short dinghy ride will get you to the dinghy dock entrance of Butchart Gardens where you can enjoy beautiful flora and fauna for a different change of pace. If you have a pooch, dogs on leash are welcome at Butchart Gardens as well! We ll be planning come Canada Day fun so make sure you pack your red and whites! Leg 4: Todd Inlet to Poets Cove Resort & Spa (www.poetscove.com) Distance Overall = 20.2 nm Poets Cove Marina Contact Info: Telephone: 1-866-537-7638 VHF 66A Restaurant, pub, spa, swimming pool, ahhh a premier resort! We re sure to have some fun enjoying all the wonderful amenities this marina has to offer!
Leg 5: Poets Cove Resort to Ganges Saltspring Marina (www.saltspringmarina.com) Distance Overall = 13.7 nm Saltspring Marina Contact Info: Telephone: 1-800-334-6629 or (250)537-5810 VHF 66A Saltspring Marina Alternative: Ganges Marina (250)537-5242 Ganges Village Alternative: Ganges Municipal Dock Danger: Moneymaker Rocks Moby s Pub Although we ve been to Saltspring Island before, this is a new marina stop for a Squadron cruise. We ve heard some positive feedback from those that have been here before so we re looking forward to checking it out! There s apparently a new pub very nearby as well. We can explore Salspring Island which is such a fabulous place, markets and shops and lots of great artistry to be found! Great moorage rates at this stop as well and they seem to be very happy to have us!
Leg 6: Ganges to Wallace Island (Anchorage) Distance Overall = 12.2 nm Princess Cove Connover Cove Both Conover and Princess Coves are gorgeous anchorages. Depending on the size of our group and availability of anchoring space, we ll decide which, when we get there. There is also the possibility that we may choose to anchor the first night (July 5 th ) in Montague Harbour, we ll see what the group wants to do at that time but for now we ll leave it at Wallace Island. It is an extremely popular and desirable stop in the Gulf Islands. The marine park is a superb place for those wanting to go ashore and walk. Conover Cabin and a picnic shelter built in the 30 s will be a must stop and see! The shelter is adorned with driftwood art and if you don t have yours up there already, come prepared! Leg 7: Wallace Island to First Narrows Distance = 32.9 nm (+ 10 nm to Reed Point Marina)
