The Hunter River begins as a series of small pools of water bubbling up out of the ground from springs in the NSW Barrington Tops. From the springs three small creeks are formed called the First, Second and Third Hunter. The creeks join to form the Hunter River which travels 470Km from the Barrington Tops through the Hunter Valley to the Port of Newcastle and into the ocean.
