Our activities We believe that time spent outside the classroom is as important as time spent in it. Our classroom-based lessons are based on building self-confidence in using the language, and outside the classroom language learning is linked directly to our exciting adventure activities. It s more than improving language skills, our international guests learn so much from mixing with young people from all nationalities, and our visits offer a fantastic confidence boost with speaking English, learning new skills and building friendships. Kingswood Centre Teams Every stay at a Kingswood centre is made extra special by our exceptional staff teams who work hard to create safe, secure and happy environments that make your students stay feel complete. We have everything covered. Our centre teams consist of: Centre Managers Qualified English Language Teachers Activity Leaders Camp Coaches during the summer Dedicated Customer Services Managers Welfare Managers during seasonal Kingswood Camps (see page 13) Friendly centre staff, including catering, security, maintenance and night teams Learning outside the classroom Our safe and secure centres provide the perfect environment for young people to express themselves. As well as English language learning, students will develop life skills such as self confidence and resilience from taking part in activities, meeting new people and staying awaym from home. Our adventurous activities enable young people to develop the use of more complex language skills in real life situations and challenge themselves in a fun environment. Language journal, reports and end of course certificates Every student will be given a Learning Journal, which includes language to help them during their stay, a self-assessment section as well as pages for them to reflect on their stay and list new words they have learnt. Exams and accreditations at Kingswood There are so many opportunities to learn English naturally as part of a trip to Kingswood, this could be from talking to the Kingswood team and English speaking children at our centres, who will either be with their school during term time or independently during the summer holidays at Kingswood Camps (see page 13). We also provide a range of classroom-based English language learning and new for 2019 is our Trinity Exam Course (see page 10). We re thrilled to be working with Trinity Exams and enabling lots of young people to earn an English language qualification as part of their Kingswood experience. Trinity Exam centre status and preparation courses We have Trinity Exam centre status at Kingswood Grosvenor Hall and Kingswood Isle of Wight. English in Action All year round International students choosing our standard English as a Foreign Language (EFL) programme will receive interactive language tuition, in classes of up to 15 students. Trinity Exams Course Our Trinity Exam courses are available at Grosvenor Hall and the Isle of Wight all year round. We can also provide Trinity Exams at our other centres on request (please note: minimum group sizes apply). These courses are fantastic for young people wanting to go home with a qualification, which is also a brilliant achievement at the end of a busy week of classroom based language learning, and having fun. Ages 11+ This is a two week programme with a Trinity Exam on the last Friday as standard. This course is available for a minimum group size of 10 and maximum group size of 15. All year round Formal language lessons: 27 hours per week. A shorter course of 15 hours per week combined with our activities is also available. Excursions: a day and a half. 92% said lessons were fun and interesting 88% said they can speak more English *Based on a survey of 2,243 international students who stayed at Kingswood in 2017. 10 Inspired? Adventure Choice Our Adventure Choice programme is hugely popular and packed with adventurous activities. Many of our activities encourage language use and provide further opportunities for practising English through communication and team building exercises. English adventure For groups staying with us for a short period of time, or who simply choose to have fewer English language classes, Groups will be taught in classes of up to 15 students. This course is ideal for young people to learn English with other students of a similar age and ability. Kingswood camps seasonal programmes During the UK school holidays, some of our Kingswood centres turn into Kingswood Camps. Packed full of adrenaline fuelled and challenging activities for 8 to 17 year olds, Camps are all about fun, independence and meeting new friends during the holidays. Choose a Kingswood Camps programme: Adventure Choice (see page 11 for more). Students stay for a week or more, with one and a half days of excursions per week and varied daytime activities and evening entertainment. An intermediate level of English is required for Adventure Choice. English in Action (see page 9 for more) Available for one week or more. English in Action weeks will include 3 hours per day Mon Fri of English language tuition, plus, one full day and one half day of excursions. UK EXCURSIONS There are a wealth of historic and cultural excursions available in the UK. Our programmes benefit from one full day and one half day of excursions per week, giving students the opportunity to really immerse themselves in British culture and use the English language they ve learnt in the classroom. As part of our programmes, there are standard excursions available from each centre, but additional options can be requested.
