THE ROYAL OAK FOUNDATION IN THE REALM OF THE WINGED LION VENICE & THE CROATIAN COAST ABOARD SEA CLOUD II AUGUST 26 TO SEPTEMBER 5, 2011

THE ROYAL OAK FOUNDATION Dear Members and Friends of The Royal Oak Foundation, When Venice ruled the Adriatic and scattered her subject cities with great architecture, she created an empire that was both prosperous and highly attractive. Dramatic landscapes and enchanting islands added their own charm to the glories of La Serenissima, and today, once again, these wonderful sites are ready to be seen at a lovely time of year. Sailing roundtrip from Venice aboard the elegant Sea Cloud II, we will discover remote pine-clad islands and historic towns that were once centers of the Greco-Roman, Byzantine and Renaissance worlds. We are delighted to welcome Martin Drury and his charming wife, Elizabeth, on this voyage to one of his favorite destinations Venice! Director-General Emeritus of the National Trust, Mr. Drury has served as its representative on the Royal Oak Board. Also accompanying us will be Daniëlle Kisluk-Grosheide, Curator of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Ms. Kisluk-Grosheide is an erudite scholar whose lectures and insights will greatly enrich our journey. In Venice we embark Sea Cloud II for a one-week cruise. Crossing the Adriatic to Croatia, navigate the Dalmatian Coast to visit the ancient metropolis of Pula. Call at Split to visit Diocletian's Palace, then step ashore on the lovely island of Hvar. Spend a day in the spectacular walled city of Dubrovnik before continuing to the historic port town of Kotor and Our Lady of the Rocks Church on an island off Montenegro. Our journey culminates with a two-night stay in Venice to visit the incomparable treasures at the Accademia and the Doge s Palace. Two exciting events add to the pleasures of our stay: the colorful Regata Storica and the Venice Biennale. There will be time to stroll this enchanting city and to absorb its unique light and color. Venice Gulf of Venice ITALY SLOVENIA Pula CROATIA A d r i a t i c S e a Split HUNGARY BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA SERBIA Hvar MONTENEGRO Perast Dubrovnik KOSOVO Kotor ALBANIA MACEDONIA Leisurely hours of sailing add to the many highlights of this voyage. Life aboard Sea Cloud II has no comparison. Her friendly staff, luxurious accommodations and fine dining create an onboard ambiance of relaxed elegance. The spacious decks are ideal for watching the energetic crew practice the age-old art of setting the sails by hand. I hope you will join us on what promises to be an exceptional program. Sincerely yours, SICILY Ionian Sea GREECE Sean Sawyer Executive Director The Royal Oak Foundation

Dubrovnik. architects is apparent on Dubrovnik s main artery, Placa. Visit the collections in the ancient Franciscan and Dominican Monasteries, and the Rector s Palace. KOTOR PERAST, MONTENEGRO Thursday, September 1 One of the most intact historic ports on the Adriatic, Kotor is still girded by the original walls. Its monuments attest to the prosperity of the town through the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, and the Romanesque churches are perfect examples of that simple but majestic style. After a morning tour and lunch, you may wish to join an excursion to Our Lady of the Rocks Church, located on an island off the town of Perast. Return to Sea Cloud II in time for dinner. VENICE Sunday, September 4 This morning discover the Doge s Palace and see the masterpieces by Titian, Veronese and Tintoretto. Then visit the jewel-like early Renaissance church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli. A specially arranged lunch on the hotel s terrace affords prime viewing of the Regata Storica. The remainder of the day is at leisure. VENICE USA Monday, September 5 After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight home. AT SEA Friday, September 2 Experience the thrill of sailing during a relaxing day at sea. Observe as the crew sets the sails, attend a lecture or enjoy the amenities of our fine ship. This evening celebrate a memorable voyage at the captain s farewell dinner. VENICE Saturday, September 3 From Lido Deck, view breathtaking vistas of La Serenissima as we enter the Venetian Lagoon. Disembark to explore the treasures of Venice s greatest museum, the Accademia. Following lunch, check in at the Hotel Europa & Regina. The balance of the day is at leisure to explore the city or to visit the pavilions of the Venice Biennale. Santa Maria dei Miracoli, Venice. photo by A Culinary Journey
