COMMITTEE REPORTS Community Clean-up Over the Memorial Day weekend the BMJCA provided four dumpsters from NorCal Disposal through a grant from Butte County for a community clean-up. On July 13 and 14 there were another two dumpsters for green waste. Thanks to the dumpster sitters: Dennis Goslin, Catherine Goggia, Dave Curtis, Katy Hildenbrand, Larry Hildenbrand, Jim Carroll, Steve Miller, Jacque Goss, Barbara Conklin, Miranda Morris, Larry Fechner, and Maggie Hill. Thanks to Tom Neverkovec for compacting the dumpsters with his backhoe. *** Emergency Preparedness Emergency Preparedness Information Day The emergency preparedness committee arranged a full day of speakers on Saturday, June 13 who provided useful information on a range of topics such as yard preparation to minimize fire danger, emergency shelter procedures, and pet evacuations during emergency situations. Representatives from organizations including the American Red Cross, Butte County Sheriffs Dept. & Neighborhood Watch, gave generously of their time to share tips and useful information. Thanks to Kathleen Purvis for organizing this event. Thanks to Dave and Kathleen Purvis for construction of a storage room used to store the emergency items. A CPR certification class, scheduled for Sunday, June 14 th, unfortunately was cancelled as there were not enough signups. The board has decided not to reschedule the CPR course at this time. Members interested in CPR training are encouraged to contact the Three Rivers Chapter of the American Red Cross at 530-673-1460 or by email at hsdir@sbcglobal.net for schedules of upcoming CPR courses. A wealth of information is available at their website at: www.threerivers.redcross.org. Emergency Evacuation Center Preparations for an emergency evacuation center, at Fire Station #10, have begun with the generous donation of cots & blankets from the American Red Cross. A storage area to keep supplies clean and dry has been constructed within the firehouse. The board has approved funds to construct a protected area where vital information can be posted outside during emergencies. Other community information can also be posted at this location when emergency conditions do not exist. The plan is to extend the existing overhang over the side door the entire length of the building and to also extend the concrete pad.

History The History Committee has been active this summer! Jim and Annette Carroll prepped the inside of our new museum building located at the Fire Station #10. They removed and stored historical items that have been collected for display. A team of volunteers scavenged unwanted materials behind the cabin to be used for a project yet to be announced. They really cleaned up the area!! On Sunday a work crew: Bruce Miller, Clinton & Jacque Goss, and Jim Carroll resurfaced inside walls, installed molding, did general cleanup. Lots of progress has been made thanks to the commitment from this group to meet and work. Thanks to Bruce for the use of your trailer to haul all the debris away! Everyone is welcome to help. Call Jim Carroll 865-4788, 873-2523. Community/Government Services Excessive Speed on Humboldt Road- A number of Butte Meadows residents are concerned about drivers speeding on Humboldt Road. The posted speed limit is 35mph. On June 27th, speed and alcohol resulted in the death of a young man who was a passenger in a pickup truck that struck a large pine on Humboldt Road. Animals have been hit by speeding cars and residents relate near misses while walking along the road. BMJCA is making inquiries into what might be done to slow traffic. Membership & Nominations The Membership Committee is preparing an "Information Packet" for people new to our Butte Meadows/Jonesville community. It will contain information about BMJCA, an application for membership, important telephone numbers in the community, a current newsletter and emergency preparedness information. This Information Packet will be available at the Omelet Breakfast and at the Mountain Mercantile. The Nomination Committee has developed a slate of nominees for Board members for the 2010-2011 open positions, as well as two positions for 2010. The slate of nominees will be presented to the membership for a vote at the annual Membership Meeting after the Omelet Breakfast. If anyone has questions or suggestions, please call Steve Miller (345-0806), Katy Hildenbrand (893-3820) or Barbara Conklin (891-4704 Web Yes Everyone is frustrated! What did we do before we had our BMJCA web site and the web camera and weather station!!! The BMJCA website is under construction. We expect to have some basic information on line soon. We ask for your patience and support during this re-model.

NEWS &UPDATES Defibrillator-A Gift of Life With support from Enloe Hospital Flight Care and the Sierra Club, the Community Activities Group has procured an Automatic Electronic Defibrillator (AED) for the Butte Meadows-Jonesville communities. An AED is an expensive and important piece of emergency equipment. It has saved many lives. The AED will be given to the Volunteer Fire Department and will be the second AED in our community. This will provide a back- up if the other AED is out of commission or taken to another emergency. *********** Emergency Telephones Did You Know?
