September 2014 Official Newsletter of the Independent Sports Club of Central Illinois Page 3 A Memorial The ISC would like to offer condolences to the family of ISC member Tom Stonebock who passed away on Friday, July 4, 2014. Tom was the epitome of the principles the ISC was founded on in that he devoted a considerable amount of his time organizing Von Steuben Little League and improving the Von Steuben Little League facilities. Several ISC members recall playing with Stonie in the Sunday Morning League. Tom s love of his association with youth sports continues in the lives of those he touched. Thanks, Tom, for your excellent help in promoting youth sports in Central Illinois. F F F F F F F F F Las Vegas Raffle winner drawn Congratulations to Larry Davis (ticket #1435), Bartonville, for taking the time to purchase a $5 Las Vegas Raffle ticket that allowed him to be the lucky winner of this year s raffle. Larry decided to take the $800 cash and keep the money in Central Illinois. Thanks Larry and the others who bought 400+ tickets that allowed ISC to clear over $1,000 on this long time fund raising raffle. Support youth sports and participate in the ISC raffles. You might WIN!!! F F F F F F F F F NEW ISC MEMBERS: We welcome the following as new members signed up since the July 2014 newsletter. We look forward to seeing you at upcoming ISC events. Your continual involvement is instrumental to the success of our endeavor to provide financial support to youth sports in the tri-county area. Lucas Joseph and Lauren Stockton of East Peoria and Brad Kempthorne of Bartonville Welcome to all of you we really appreciate your support! Special thanks to the ISC newsletter advertisers and corporate sponsors ISC would like to thank our newsletter advertisers and corporate sponsors for their continual unselfish financial support in our quest to help provide Central Illinois youth the best sports programs in the country. In that endeavor, recent years have seen us disperse $25,000 - $40,000 per year in the form of grants and scholarships to individuals and organizations involved in Central Illinois youth sports. It is your financial support in buying newsletter advertising or participating in various requests for corporate sponsorship at some of our fund raisers that allows us to offset the expense of printing the newsletter or putting on the fund raisers. ISC would not have year-after-year success without your assistance. Again, thank you for your support!!! Call out to unpaid former ISC members For the last 3 years we have had approximately 250 people listed on our membership list who have not paid their $20.00 annual membership. The unpaid 250 are on the list because they had previously been a paid member. They have not been removed because the ISC does not want to give up on the chance that they might remit the $20.00 annual membership cost when they receive the new dues letter in January. Each one of these unpaid former members is on our mailing list and continues to receive our newsletters. We are reaching out to you in hopes you will consider renewing your $20.00 membership and help us provide Central Illinois youth the best sports facilities in the country. When you are finished reading this, fill out the membership form included in this newsletter and mail it, along with your $20.00 check, to ISC. 1700 W. To fulfill this pledge, we provide annual financial aid grants to various youth sports organizations throughout Central Illinois. These grants are used to offset expenses incurred to run the programs. Each organization fills out our application form and the ISC Board of Directors decides if the request is granted. At our recent Annual Meeting, the membership approved a financial aid grant budget of $16,000 for fiscal year April 1, 2014 March 31, 2015. Since 1996, ISC has provided $245,000 in financial aid grants to youth sports groups. We are able to do this with the support of our membership. As of this newsletter, the ISC board has approved financial aid grants totaling $6,500.00 for this fiscal year. The following grant was approved since the last newsletter. Dunlap JV Girls Basketball League...$500 Providing these annual financial aid grants to Central Illinois youth sports organizations is the backbone of the Independent Sports Club of Central Illinois.
