Camp Staff The YMCA at Camp Torenta Staff are carefully screened for working with children. Counselors are at least eighteen years of age. The staff team participates in an extensive pre-camp training and orientation. All staff are certified in CPR and First Aid. The waterfront staff are certified Lifeguards. Patch Program Each resident camper receives a totem pole patch and has opportunity throughout the week to earn patches in nine different program areas. (swimming, canoeing, rock climbing, orienteering, archery, fishing, teamwork, etc.) Patches are presented in a special ceremony at the end of each week. Day Camp For ages 6 12 yrs. Day Camp at Camp Torenta is a way for your child to get a taste of the simple life without the extended stay. The activities that occur at camp create and build memories that last a lifetime. Each week has its own theme and activities that reflect the theme. In addition each camper has the option to stay for the Resident Camp experience for the Wednesday Night overnight. They will get to sing camp songs and relax by the campfire. All activities are geared to encourage participation, expose campers to new experiences and are fun. Above all camp teaches character development and values that last a lifetime: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, plus a sense of fun. Camp Extras Wednesday Overnight Day camp sessions feature an optional overnight. Campers will enjoy campfires, special events and games that are not available during the normal camp day. Overnights include Wednesday dinner and Thursday breakfast. If you would like your child to participate in the Wednesday overnight please indicate on your registration form. $15/ Week Extended Day Camp Families in need of an early drop off or late pick up can sign-up for this program and be rest assured of a safe, supervised, and fun place to await their ride home. You ll get to meet the staff, enjoy camp activities and share a sweet treat on the shores of Lake Mitchell!
Teen Canoeing Adventure Camp For ages 12 15 yrs. This camp focuses on outdoor adventure skills during the week that build up to the overnight adventure trip. During this week teens learn camping, wilderness travel, and canoeing skills. They will learn about proper gear, cooking and nutrition, loading a pack, setting a site, campfire building, safety, paddling, packing a boat, life on the river, and then end the week with a fun overnight trip down the Manistee River. Along with the week-long adventure emphasis there will also be time for teens to participate in their favorite camp activities like: waterfront, boating, games, and everything else that makes Camp Torenta so much fun! Girls Camp June 24-29 Boys Camp July 8-13 Camp Fees $250/ wk. Others: $275/ wk. Teen Camp Staff In addition to the great Camp Torenta Staff, volunteers with extensive knowledge and experience in wilderness camping and canoeing will join the staff during teen weeks specifically to work with the teens. They will accompany the teens and their counselors on the overnight trip.
