NEXT STOP NEWS November 2015 INSIDE: TransitAction Awards Nominations 2015 Holiday Bus Schedule Changes Considered for 7th & K I Am the Dream and the Dream Is Now Art and Poetry Contest RT is celebrating its 8th annual Season of Civil Rights with a series of events during the months of December, January and February to build awareness about the significant role that transit played in the American Civil Rights Movement. In preparation, RT invites students in grades 3 through 12, who attend a school within RT s service area, to participate in the I Am the Dream and the Dream Is Now art and poetry contest. The contest allows students to creatively express their ideas about the relationship between transit and civil rights either through art or writing. Original drawings must be submitted in landscape orientation on 8.5 high x 11 wide paper. Entries should not be created in pencil or include the use of unlicensed images taken from the Internet or print materials. Poems must be 10 lines or less, be original work and typewritten. All entries are required to relate to both the theme of transit and civil rights. Twelve entries will be selected, four from each grade category: 3rd through 6th, 7th through 9th, and 10th through 12th. Winners will receive a $25 bookstore gift card and a The Rosa Parks Story DVD. RT will display the winning works of art and essays on RT interior bus cards in January and February 2016, to commemorate RT s Season of Civil Rights. Winning entries will also be on display at special events during the three-month campaign. Submissions must be received by Friday, December 11, 2015. To submit original artwork, mail or deliver to:

In keeping with the season of giving, passengers will once again have the opportunity to deposit a cash donation in the farebox (cash or check accepted), and/or place nonperishable food items (such as canned goods, peanut butter, etc.) in RT s special donation box. All donations will directly benefit River City Food Bank, a non-profit organization that provides emergency food and housing assistance to approximately 40,000 clients in Sacramento County annually. For route and schedule information, visit sacrt.com or call 916-321-BUSS (2877). Changes Considered for St. Rose of Lima Park (7th & K) Station Significant changes are underway in downtown Sacramento. The changes are a great opportunity for RT and the community as a whole, but the increase in foot traffic presents significant operational challenges for the St. Rose of Lima Park (7th & K) light rail station in its current configuration. The light rail track at this location curves from K Street to 7th Street. During peak commute hours, the rear cars on the four-car Blue Line trains curve around the corner from 7th Street onto K Street, potentially blocking pedestrian flows and sight lines. Despite fairly heavy passenger usage at the St. Rose of Lima Park (7th & K) Station, it may become the most likely candidate to close or remove because of the operational issues. In order to ensure ample public input and dialogue surrounding the issue, RT staff will conduct outreach at the St. Rose of Lima Park (7th & K) Station on: Wednesday, November 4 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. 7th Street at K Street Tuesday, November 10 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. 7th Street at K Street

An open house is also scheduled on: Tuesday, November 17 Noon to 6 p.m. Tsakopoulos Library Galleria 828 I Street, Sacramento For more information, visit sacrt.com. New RT Bus and Light Rail Timetable Book and System Map RT s new Bus & Light Rail Timetable Book and System Map, effective September 6, 2015, is available for purchase at the RT Customer Service and Sales Center located at 1225 R Street (adjacent to the 13th Street light rail station).
