DAYS 2 & 3 KICHUGUU CAMP TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK DAYS 2 & 3 Kichuguu Camp Lauren McCalley Tarangire National Park After breakfast, drive north to Tarangire National Park, which boasts one of the largest elephant populations in East Africa. Many close-knit elephant families matriarchs, babies, teenagers and bulls, come together along the Tarangire River. Feel their wisdom and deep emotional bonds. Big cats love the rolling savanna here too. With a range of ecosystems from grassland and woodlands in the north to scrub and wetlands further south Tarangire s incredibly diverse mix of habitat is not found anywhere else in northern Tanzania. A variety of different wildlife species, including big cats, gather at the river making for great viewing year round. Tarangire is also famous for its giant, otherworldly baobab trees with their massive trunks and crooked branches. Local people ascribe mystical qualities to them because of their long lifespan: 600-3,000 years. DAY 4 MANYARA SERENA LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK DAY 4 Manyara Serena Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge Lake Manyara National Park The evergreen groundwater forest of Lake Manyara National Park is set against the Rift Valley. While it looks like a rainforest, there is actually very little rainfall here. Instead, mineral springs seep up through porous volcanic soil. The park contains a variety of ecosystems including acacia woodland, grasslands, swamp delta and of course, the expansive lake. Manyara boasts over 380 recorded bird species and is home to the rare tree-climbing lions an unusual adaptation is for these big cats. Enjoy a picnic lunch near Oldupai Gorge, site of the Leakey Digs excavation of some of the oldest human skeletons ever found. Visit the onsite museum and learn about the gorge from a Tanzanian anthropologist. Kubu Kubu Tented Camp is in the Seronera area of the central Serengeti a 12,000 sq. mile savanna grassland spanning northern Tanzania and Kenya s Maasai Mara, forming one of the world s largest wildlife refuges. Serengeti s famous annual wildlife migration stretches more than a thousand miles and is most known for vast herds of wildebeests, zebras and Thomson s gazelle. The herds gather on the Tanzanian side of the ecosystem from approximately November/December through early July. In search of greener grasses, they make their perennial pilgrimage from the Mara into the Serengeti and back. DAYS 5-7 KUBU KUBU TENTED CAMP SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK Seronera or siron means bat-eared fox, a small valley predator, in local language. Robert Wheeler Twelve different lion prides live within driving distance of the Seronera river. The Serengeti in general, is considered the best place on earth to view cheetahs who do not live in prides, and are much more solitary in nature.

Ngorongoro is an extinct volcano. Flora thrives on volcanic soil. The top (7,500 ft) boasts a once in a lifetime view into the caldera with some of the best wildlife viewing in East Africa. Head into the Crater early as dawn brings a wave of activity in the natural world. This ecosystem showcases an astonishing microcosm of East African wildlife environments: grasslands, wetlands, acacia forest and soda lakes. Enjoy lunch at the Hippo Pools, where hippos and elephants wade for a mid-day bath. Only Maasai people are allowed live in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
