INVITATION LETTER Dear colleagues, There is no doubt that there have been many changes in general theories of biology and pathology of the musculoskeletal system in the past few years. We now realize that the architectural properties of the bone are important factors in bone physiology, both in normal and diseased conditions. An abundance of information from the basic sciences is helping us in the search for treatment and understanding of metabolic diseases of the bone. This new accumulated knowledge of the basic sciences has opened new horizons, but has also generated new questions regarding the therapeutic methods that we follow in the management of bone disease. HSSBM has already organized three meetings on the topic of bone quality and its parameters. At these meetings, high level, in-depth analyses of the various theories have been undertaken. We have decided that, for the year 2009, the 4 th International Meeting to discuss the parameters of bone quality and strength will be organized on Mykonos on the 25 th - 27 th of September. Dr. Gregory Skarantaros and Dr. Eleftherios Pashalis will be responsible for the scientific programme of this Meeting - they have been similarly responsible for previous, highly successful Meetings. I therefore invite you to a challenging scientific Meeting on the magical island of Mykonos. I am sure that this will be a very inspiring Conference. I look forward to welcoming you to Mykonos. Your colleague, Dr Th. Karachalios, MD, DSc Associate Professor in Orthopaedics President of the H.S.S.B.M. 2009-2010 7
