Lionard Luxury Real Estate Via dei Banchi, 6 - ang. Piazza S. Maria Novella 50123 Florence Italy Tel. +39 055 0548100 Fax. +39 055 0548150 San Gimignano Farmhouse in Chianti, covered by olive groves DESCRIPTION A renovated farmhouse in Tuscany, with the beautiful countryside that surrounds the characteristic village of Montaione. The property consists of ten spacious apartments: eight have been built within a typical Tuscan farmhouse dating back to 1600 and covering 630m2 which have preserved and enhanced the pure architectural lines and arches, vaults and beam ceilings; two further apartments were built in the 160 m2 barn. Planning permission and consent for further 400 m2 extended building. The buildings were part of the prestigious estate that the poet Vincenzo Filicaja, commemorated in the Holy Cross among the great Italians and from whom the current owners are descended, received as a gift from the Medici family. The names of men and women given to the apartments are precisely the names of the members of this ancient family. The two houses are surrounded by 3 hectares of land mainly cultivated with olive trees which confers to the area the typical Tuscan appearance of green rolling hills lined with rows of green and silver plants. On the wide lawn in front of the structure is the large pool, its two parts linked by a children's pool, areas equipped with

every comfort and a barbecue. The dominant and panoramic position of the estate provides magnificent views along with the utmost peace and privacy while being only a short walk to the main art cities of Tuscany, a number of monasteries places of significant medieval religious activity and the Via Francigena. TECHNICAL DETAILS LOCATION According to legend, a young nobleman named Ajone was one day passing through a faraway district when, in the depths of the forest, he came across the house of Ine who was crying over her beautiful daughter, Figline who had been kidnapped by a so-called Gambasso. Ajone decided to bring Figline home and waged war against Gambasso. Returning Figline to her mother, he obtained permission to marry her and founded both the town of "Monte Ajone and the castle of Figline, not far away. The descendants of Ajone and Gambasso still however maintained a strong sense of rivalry. One day, the descendants of Ajone and Figline were attacked by an enemy army who, following a lengthy siege, destroyed the palace, having breached their opponents defences. The people of Montaione, having lost their leader and faith, returned to idolatry and decided to sacrifice the most beautiful girl of the town, whose name was Filli, to the gods in the hope of obtaining peace and happiness. A Florentine knight, upon hearing the news, rushed to Montaione and, appalled by the idea of human sacrifice (and perhaps attracted by the beauty of the maiden), forced the people to free the girl and sacrifice, in her place, a heifer. He was thus named "Lord of the Heifer. Filli, freed, and as a sign of gratitude to her savior, gave him the torn red dress that she wore and which he proudly used as his banner. Filli and the Lord of the Heifer married and rebuilt the castle of Figline where they lived for many years. The Lord of the Heifer was so enamored of his wife that he did nothing but call her "Filli my beautiful one", "my desired Filli, Filli my dear"... and, as such, it was for this reason that he himself called the place where they lived "Fillicara. Their descendants were thus called Fillicara or "Filicaja" or "da Filicaja" and had as an emblem the symbol of the dress of Filli.
