Information sheet for Winter 2015-2016 & Summer 2016 Silence, Tranquility, Purity, Relaxation, in the safe seclusion of, nestled on the banks of Lake Lammasjärvi, just three kilometres from the village of Kuhmo, provides a unique experience from beginning to end for any holiday. As soon as you arrive you are invited into a mythical world and the adventures of the Wild Taiga. The idea for the building originates from an eagle spreading its wings to rise into the air. The special silhouette and concrete casting technique are distinctive. Building work was completed in 1989 and is a protected listed building by The Finnish National Board of Antiquities. The complex is designed to look like a huge wooden fortress in ancient times and includes old and new elements. The owners have refurbished the interior with accents of Central Europe. rooms and public areas are cozy and inviting. 3 rooms have been designed according to the Feng-Shui principles and one of the four wings of the hotel is free of Wlan connections to guarantee our guests a relaxing, largely electromagnetic-free stay! When flying from Helsinki a visitor will leave the hustle, bustle and stresses of city life behind and arrive at the regions local airport, Kajaani which was built in 1957. Accommodation: has capacity for up to 100 persons: - 4 single rooms - 33 twin rooms (8 of them with a connecting door, suitable for families) - 7 superior double rooms (coffee/tea making facilities, bathrobes, slippers, double bed) - 3 suites (living room, bedroom, large bathroom with Jacuzzi, bathrobes, slippers, double bed) *Room rates include breakfast and evening sauna with Jacuzzi. Restaurant: Our cuisine is designed for international taste whilst using local produce, fish, meat and techniques. We also have a good menu for vegetarians. *The restaurant seat 178 diners. There is a lobby bar, roofed terrace and open air summer terrace for up to 50 guests. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily. Guests can choose; half-board or full-board on request or when included into the programmes.
Meeting rooms and services: There are three meeting rooms available depending on the size of the group. Conference and meetings services will be tailored to meet the needs of delegates. Wellness department: The tranquil setting of the wellness department has; 2 traditional Finnish saunas, peat sauna, infrared sauna, Jacuzzi, herbal Jacuzzi, acumassage bed and outdoor Jacuzzi, relaxation area and outdoor terrace with direct access to the sandy beach. (Peat sauna, infra-red sauna and herbal Jacuzzi are extra, if not included in a package.) *The Wellness department is also available for meetings and private hire. Wellness treatments Traditional Finnish bone setting, classical massage, foot spas, herbal baths are optional. The treatments are charged separately and it is recommended to book at least one day in advance. Bookings can be made at reception. Hotel Facilities and Surroundings: There is a Kota, a traditional Finnish hut, which is situated next to the hotel on the beach. This is a peaceful, serene place, ideal for meditation or special occasions. Meals are cooked in the Kota or catered from the hotel kitchen. (Pre booked through the hotel) Spending an evening by a camp fire is a true local highlight and takes you back to times when people used to get together around the fire swopping tales of their day. During free time and evenings it is possible to arrange suitable activities close to the hotel and the surrounding area. Alternatively guests can play various board games, cards, puzzles, Wii and Ps2 in the Sampo-game room. Or, they may prefer to simply spend time relaxing and enjoying the stunning surroundings.

Local traditions and culture are central to these programs. Guides are locals so have all the necessary knowledge and experience. Programmes are suitable for groups of 10 30 persons and in part for bigger groups. In some programmes the minimum group size is 2 persons and in some the single supplement is 100 %. A normal level of fitness is required for the programmes. In case of any doubt, please ask for further information. For snowmobiles and snowmobile & ice fishing tours the hotel provides; thermal overalls, winter boots, thermal socks and gloves/mittens, helmet and a balaclava for underneath the helmet. Otherwise there are thermal overalls to hire, either for a day or duration of stay. In winter it is important to dress accordingly for a day out-of-doors. We recommend a couple of layers of warm clothes (the first layer: long sports underwear and sports socks, thermal layer: woolen or fleece pullover, jogging or fleece trousers and woolen socks) and good winter boots, cap or hat and gloves or mittens. Warm winter jacket and pants (or overall) are essential in these conditions. In summer it is good to have a rain jacket or/and umbrella, wind/water proof outdoor outfit, as well as warm fleece jacket or pullover. Proper hiking shoes and sneakers are a wise choice to properly enjoy walking the area.
Supermarkets and other services: The nearest supermarkets, boutiques and pharmacy are situated approx. 3 km from the hotel in the town center. There are good taxi services in the area. Taxi can be booked at the reception. Next to the hotel (700 m) is the Nature Centre Petola and Winter War Museum. They are an easily reached along a sidewalk or short and easy forest paths. The unique Northern House - Pohjolan Talo - is available for an extra charge for groups, special meals and occasions. In the hotel lobby there is a small souvenir shop, a library room and a cozy seating area by the open fire. The nearest airport and railway station are in Kajaani, about 1 1, 5 hour drive from Kuhmo. There are good bus connections between Kuhmo and Kajaani. And if not included, transfer from/to Kajaani Airport. In Kuhmo center there are many attractions from the Kuhmo Arts Center exhibitions to the free flowing rapids of Pajakkakoski. There are also many exhibitions from the concerts of the Chamber Music Festival and Juminkeko, the cultural Centre of Kalevala and Karelian heritage.
