Albany Yacht Club NEWS Commodore s Message: Sean O Neill We are now in the heart of the boating season and it is good to see so many members out and about on the river and at the Club. We have welcomed fourteen new social members and two regular members since June and we hope to vote in four or five new members at the regular meeting in August. Our plan to replenish the membership is on track and hopefully it will encourage more boating members as we go forward. A major thanks to Joe Hobbs for all his efforts to repair the crane, fix the sidewalk and repair the portable pump out. There of course have been others helping like Jim Johnson, Mike Meehan and Dennis McGraw but it is Joe who has been on top of these critical projects so give him your thanks when you see him. Also thanks to Todd Goldstein for cutting down all the bushes, trees and other flora that has been growing all summer along the shore line. It is a tough and dangerous job and we are in his debt. Thanks also to Mike Connors and his group of new social members from the Albany Irish Rowing Society for a great dinner on short notice on July 26. It was a sell out and enjoyed by all. If you are deficient on work hours now is a good time to get caught up. There is painting and cleaning to do as well as trimming shrubs and general cleanup outside is always welcome so don t get caught in September October with hours complete and nothing to do. At the August regular meeting we need to form a group to be responsible for boats out and to organize it. Dave Haley has sold his boat and Joe Champion will not be storing with us this season. The diminishing number of yard boats makes it all the more important that those who wish to store with us step up and take on the responsibility for making sure we have a good plan and collecting the fees to pay for the crane to haul the boats. With that I ll end and wish you all a great AYC social and boating season. August 2013
