Why China? There are over 1.35 billion people in China and it is the oldest continuous civilisation in the world dating back about 6000 years Chellaston Academy now has a sister school in Hefei (Hefei 50). As a result of this partnership, you now have the opportunity to get a unique immersive experience in China. Links between Britain and China have already started to develop (ecomomically / culturally and within education) Learning Mandarin and working with China will become increasingly important in Britain. Be an Ambassador for our school and your country
OUR TRIP in 2018 The trip started on a cold Saturday morning at Chellaston. We left by coach at 10.30 and headed to Heathrow, where we took the plane to Beijing via Copenhagen arriving in Beijing on Sunday at 11.00am local time.
BEIJING We spend two night in Beijing, a city of 22 million people. It is made up of 6 circles which act as ring roads separating off certain parts of the city and which historically served as its protection from invasion One of the main reasons for heading to Beijing was quite simply to visit the Great wall of China and it really is worth it. The views and sheer size of the wall itself are simply amazing.

THE FOOD Lots of sticky rice Lots of different dishes Coke and Sprite!! Tea There was always something that we could eat! One restaurant even gave us Smily faces!!
The Forbidden Palace Built in the centre of Beijing to house the Emperor and his workers. Once you entered the Palace you couldn t leave. There were on average 300 people who lived and worked in the palace.

Travelling from Beijing to Hefei We decided to travel by high speed bullet train. It is an amazing feeling to think you are travelling over 200 mph on the ground and yet it feels like a train ride in England.
Our Sister school Hefei 50 We spend 4 nights in Hefei and 3 days visiting the 3 different campuses that make up the 7,600 students that go to this school.
Hefei 50
Our Sister school Hefei 50 This was the sight that greeted us when we first arrived.
The Welcome What a welcome the school gave us!
Just a couple of the performances
How cool is this?
Hefei 50 The time in the school gave our students a real look at how children are taught in this part of the world. We experienced music, art, Chinese, English and Physics lessons with the Chinese students, as well having the opportunity to do some traditional Chinese things ourselves; make dumplings, practise Chinese writing, make tea and arrange flowers. It was simply magical and was so much
Hefei 50 Here are some of the pictures and videos from our time at the school;

From Hefei to Shanghai in one quick train. When planning the trip, we had questioned whether going to a third city was going to be too much. In the end we decided to go to Shanghai in order to see the Yuyan gardens and then the skyline of the city at night. Little did we know that the Lithuanian President would be at the gardens on the same day as us or that the Chinese president would be at the skyline when we were!
Shanghai Yuyan gardens These are simply beautiful. Situated right in the middle of Shanghai and all the high rise buildings it gave us a glimpse of how Shanghai used to look before it became one of the most modern cities in the world.

SUMMARY The people are so friendly The food, although different, is so tasty! The country is becoming modern so quickly The history and traditions of the country are so impressive and EVERYONE respects their customs. Chinese people like the same things that we do!

Why is the trip in 2019 going to be even better? Direct Flights We know the restaurants and hotels that we liked. We know how long it takes to get to certain places. We know what students enjoyed and didn t via the student voice survey that we conducted when we got back. We know the time lines in terms of what we need to prepare in advance. We know how good it is!!
The plan moving forward All being well we will return to China next October. This is dependent on pupil interest as it does affect the price of the flights. We are aiming to take 30 pupils and 4 members of staff. Cost of the trip will be either 1830 (30 pupils) or 1920 (20-29 pupils). It really does depend on the number of pupils that sign up to the trip. This covers all costs prior to the trip (eg visa application / clothing / insurance) and all costs on the trip (food / travel / accommodation / entrance to the sights)
The plan moving forward A refundable deposit of 200 is required by the 23 rd Jan to register your interest in the trip. Payable on Wisepay from tonight. Over the next week or so we will then look at how many students have paid this deposit, work out what the final cost of the trip will be, confirm numbers and then decide whether the trip will run. If the trip is confirmed you will then receive a letter outlining the payment schedule for the trip.
The plan moving forward Suggested pay structure to be confirmed Jan 23 rd - 200 refundable deposit 30 th April 2019-600 12 th June 2019-500 12 th Sept 2019-530 / 620
