Web page: www.batemansbayofs.weebly.com Email: bbayofs@gmail.com Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/bbofs/ President s Report Boyd. Thank you to Ron Boyd for all his previous efforts as our President and to our departing Committee Members Jim Purtell, Min Purtell and Rose Boyd, for their work in 2018. We, the new Committee, have had our first meeting and started the ball rolling for 2019. On the agenda were many things, including our Christmas Party and Awards Night. Members are asked if they have one special orchid in flower to bring it a long to help make a Christmas display of orchids on the night. There will be more details of the night in the Newsletter. Our activities for 2019 were discussed and our next meeting in January, will see our calendar prepared. Our March workshop was reviewed and application forms can now be down loaded off our web site. I am looking forward to 2019 as your President. I wish all Members and their families a very Merry Christmas and an enthusiastic growing and benching year in 2019. See you at our first meeting, Monday, 4th February 2019. We will be having two very experienced growers talking about and demonstrating, - how to deal with that difficult orchid. Cheers, Anne-Marie The 2018 A.G.M. saw a few new people joining the Committee and a new President Anne-Marie Collins, Vice President Ken Covington and Treasurer Leanda O Connor, appointed. Our Secretary is Margaret Turner. The 2019 Committee Members are Paula Brown, Judee Hunt, Robert Fish, Sue Fish, Megan Quinlivan, Brian Coulton and Ron Other items 1. Club Members The BBOFS wishes any Member who may be unwell all the best for a speedy recovery. Dates to keep for 2019 Interclub workshop in March Put in your diaries that BBOFS will be running next year s workshop on 23 rd & 24 th March 2019. The four speakers invited have all accepted. The Speaker program has been agreed to and is now available on the website. Names to be given to Margaret Turner. South and West Regional Show The EOC will be running the Regional Show and Conference in October 2019. It is to be held in Moruya at the Basketball Stadium and the theme is Nature s Way. We will receive more information as it draws closer. Orchids for sale Remember that any Member can put orchids on the table for sale at the meetings. There are still a number of Bill Guist s orchids available for sale. Alan Bird is planning to leave the Bay and as a result would like to sell his orchid collection mainly cymbidiums. Please contact Alan on 4471 2753 or at 3 Bellbird Drive Maula Bay. In your orchid house. Repotting time is well and truly underway now. This ensures that as plants develop new roots, they have a new mixture to grow into. If you are unsure what to do for a specific plant, bring it to a meeting to ask an experienced grower or go onto the OSNSW website, which has many items of interest for the orchid grower at all levels. www.orchidsocietynsw.com.au/growing Tips.htm Regular use of fertilizers will help produce strong healthy plants, which will hopefully produce many flower spikes for us all to enjoy. Watering is of course an important part of this process too as is checking for pests. Also, as we are coming into summer, remember that some of your orchids might like to be a little cooler. Don t be afraid to move the plants around in your orchid house to get the best results from your plants. Dates for your 2019 Diary I hope we will start seeing 2019 show dates in other newsletters soon.
