Belle du Perigord Nadaillac De Rouge, Dordogne Sleeps 8 guests, 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms DESCRIPTION Immersed in a splendid agricultural landscape bordered by the Dordogne and Lot rivers, this period, air-conditioned family home with heated pool sits at the edge of Nadaillac de Rouge, at the very heart of the Perigord Noir - an area famed for its countless chateaux and bastide villages, remarkable gardens, prehistoric caves and prestigious wine appellations. Set against a natural backdrops of verdant hills and valleys, this meticulously restored 18th century country house, retains a distinctive Perigourdine charm; from the mellow local stone and cheerful red shutters of the exterior, to the warm soft furnishings, traditional French furniture, open fireplace and wooden beams inside. As an additional benefit, a newly built guest cottage with independent access provides further accommodation and privacy for two people within the party. If you long to escape the hectic pace of city life, here you are in the right place; enjoy leisurely meals under the covered terrace, sampling the flavours of locally grown produce from the market nearby. So called for the dark colour of its woods above the Dordogne and Vezere river valleys, the Perigord Noir boasts many 'plus beaux villages', among them La Rocque-Gageac, Domme, Castelnaud-la-Chapelle and St Leon-sur-Vezere. A pleasure to visit, especially on market day, these medieval villages have a timeless atmosphere and pretty pavement cafes where one can sit outdoors and watch the world go by, with a glass of local wine and a delicious Perigourdine salad. A particularly exciting way to discover the region and its thousand chateaux is by boat, using the traditional gabarre (i.e. flat bottomed boat) or a canoe although this will take longer! - which can be hired all along the river. Be prepared for a spectacular journey back in time with steep limestone cliffs, perched towns full of architectural treasures, troglodyte caves, vine-clad and forested hills, as you embark on a marvellous journey back in time! Absolutely not to be missed are also Sarlat-la Caneda and Rocamadour, both within ten miles of this villa and both and both offering unique insights into South West France s cultural heritage. INSIDER TIPS The most visited towns in this popular region are Rocamadour and Sarlat-la-Caneda. Set in a gorge above a river and climbing up a cliff side, Rocamadour is one of the Grand Sites of France and an ancient shrine for over 1000 years, welcoming pilgrims on route to Santiago de Compostela. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes if you want to walk all the way up to the top! Sarlat-la Caneda is one of my favourite towns in Dordogne, I love its ancient sandstones buildings; as you venture through its maze of alleyways, you can spot amazing architectural gems everywhere. During the summer season open air shows take place in the main square of the old quarter, buskers and mimes, musicians and actors entertain visitors of this ever bustling town. Incidentally, here I have enjoyed one of the best ice creams in France! SERVICES Included: WiFi internet. Pool towels. Telephone calls to French landlines. Pool heating.
