Great Yarmouth Sports Partnership Minutes Thursday, 12 March 2015 at 17:30 Present:- John White (in the Chair), Councillor Williamson, Simon Elliott (Activating CIC), Jim West, Michelle Gibson (Include Pre 16), Rachael Hardy (Ageless Opportunities), Marie Hartley (GYBC) and Karline Smith (GYBC). 1 APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE 1 Apologies for absence were received from Clare Winter, Heather Sayer, Tom Richards, Alex Bond, Tracey Jones, Toby Nickerson, Adrian Simm, Marten Payne and Jamie Lincoln. 2 MINUTES 2 The minutes of the meeting held on 15 January 2015 were confirmed subject to the amendment that the draft strategies three strands were Built Facilities, Playing Pitches and Play, Leisure and Recreation. 3 MATTERS ARISING 3 It was reported that Jamie Lincoln from East Norfolk Sixth Form College had offered to become a member of the Great Yarmouth Sports Council. 4 ACTIVE NORFOLK UPDATE 4 It was reported that on the 17th March 2015 an evening would be held at the UEA with three courses being held including an introduction to volunteering and media. Basketball was being held at the Marina Centre on Sundays for woman and young people. Marie Hartley spoke of the TV advert for the 'This girl Can' campaign' - a national event would be held on Tuesday 24 March 2015 and details would be circulated. Coach Education month would be held in April and would include Pregnancy Page 3 of 5
Exercise, MS and Exercise. The Norfolk Village Games would be held on Sunday 12th July 2015. 5 SPORT, PLAY & LEISURE STRATEGY REVIEW 5 Marie Hartley reported that work was progressing on the final Strategy document including all three elements: built facilities, playing pitches and play/leisure/recreation, a summary report would be considered by the Project Steering group this month and based on the recommendation an action plan would be developed. 6 APPLICATION FOR COMMUNITY SPORT ACTIVATION FUND (CSAF) 6 At the second Stakeholders meeting, based on strategic priorities and evidence from data available, it was agreed to progress with a bid focused on Young people agreed 14-25 years targeting urban and rural areas. Direct consultation with YP is now required to support the bid; questionnaires would be circulated for completion to relevant community groups and the deadline for returns was 31st March to enable bid completion by the 20th April deadline. 7 ITEMS FOR INFORMATION 7 (i) Rachael Hardy - Ageless Opportunities It was report that the Over 50's Bike Club starts next week every other week through till October. Home visits were going well. A Quiz would be held on 24th April to raise funds for the adult youth club. The Ageless Opportunities Directory would be launched on 14 April 2015 from 10.00 am until 12.30. (ii) Simon Elliott - Activating CIC Fun and Fit Aqua was being held. Yoga at the Library. Funding had been received for a recording studio and they would be working with the Youth Offending Team on this. They have recycled 12 bikes. They were trying to purchases a tricycle for a disabled cycling club. (iii) Councillor Williamson Great Yarmouth Borough Council has invested alot of money into the Marina Centre but the Council has to subsidies the Marina and Phoenix Swimming Pools. 7m had now been allocated by the Council to invest and refurbish the Marina Centre and the Phoenix. (iv) Marie Hartley The CSF have launched Street Life Soccer at the Marina Centre. Held on Tuesday afternoon 2-4pm. Great Yarmouth Sports Grants - Sports Education Grant leaflets tabled. The Small Grants pot has been stopped. Norfolk Sport PE Strategy for Young People 2015-2017 has been launched and endorsed at top level by Baroness Sue Cambell. The vision is for 0-25 year olds to have an active healthy lifestyle. Page 4 of 5
(v) Michelle Gibson - Include Pre-16 Michelle reported on New HorizonsProject with the Leila Sailing Trust who had been given 300,000 to work with 400 people over 4 years on sailing voyages with the young people. 8 DATE OF NEXT MEETING 8 It was agreed that the next meeting would be held on Thursday 14th May 2015, 5.30pm at the Marina Centre. 9 NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES 9 Partners used this opportunity to network.
