The tourism systems in the area need to be placed in already structured systems through thematic itineraries (historic and religious itineraries, nature, hiking), or also through existing means of transport such as local railways, which can be integrated as tourism vectors in addition to the normal service to the citizens. Historical railways are also a common element in the two areas of Lucca and Pistoia. The Lucca-Aulla railway line is open towards the Sea and Apennines Parks system and to the the cruise port of La Spezia and towards the tourist area of the Piana di Lucca and Versilia, and Porrettana railway Bologna-Pistoia is able to connect two regional tourist areas such as the metropolitan area of Bologna and Florence.
