L IN C S OFFSHORE WIND FARM www.dongenergy.co.uk
Welcome to Lincs Lincs Offshore Wind Farm has been fully operational since 2013. Situated off the east coast of England, the Project comprises 75 turbines with a combined total capacity of 270MW. DONG Energy UK is focused on offshore wind power, oil and gas exploration and commercial energy sales. We have invested over 5bn in the UK since 2004 and are the world leader in developing and building offshore wind. Ownership The Project is owned 25% by DONG Energy, 25% by Siemens Project Ventures and 50% by Centrica. How big is it? How much electricity does it produce? The Project has a capacity of This means that each year it provides enough power for over 270MW 190,000 homes. 1 What has been the impact on the local economy? During construction Lincs provided work for up to working onshore and offshore. 250 people 100 jobs Approximately have been created to maintain the Lincs Offshore Wind Farm, largely from the local area, and more staff are employed during the peak summer periods when wind conditions are low and optimal for maintenance works. 35 full time 69 The base is home to Centrica staff and Siemens service staff: the majority of whom are from the local area and trained locally. 19 apprentices who are based at the Grimsby In addition Siemens have operations base and serve the Lincs and the Lynn and Inner Dowsing offshore wind farms. How do we maintain the turbines? The Lincs Offshore Wind Farm is adjacent to Centrica s Lynn and Inner Dowsing offshore wind farms, and operations for the two farms are based out of the Grimsby operations base. Centrica operates the wind farm in partnership with Siemens Wind Power. Innovation what makes this Project special? The Project was one of the first wind farms in the UK to use the larger diameter rotor (120m) version of the Siemens 3.6MW turbine. Lincs Offshore Wind Farm was also the first wind farm to utilise a conical foundation and monopile connection to improve stability across the life of the Project. 1 We base this on a conservative assumed load factor of 34% (which is lower than our average for 2014) and a household consumption of 4MWh per year. Source: DECC, 2014, Energy consumption in the UK, Average electricity consumption per house in 2013 was 4192kWh. https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/energy-consumption-in-the-uk
Mark West, Wind Turbine Installation Manager Working on such a large scale construction project brings its challenges, and we had to overcome both technical and commercial problems. For example, we had to deal with challenging sea bed conditions and bring in a second turbine installation vessel to keep the Project on track. However, it also brings a large amount of satisfaction. When the Project was finished, it was very satisfying to look out at Lincs Offshore Wind Farm from a crew transfer vessel or the beach, knowing that you played a significant role in providing new, clean energy for the UK.
