Forecast for 60 on February 19 th does not make it sound like we will be riding anytime soon. However, we did have a great club trip the first weekend in February. Four of us went up on February 1st and rode to Grand Marais. We met most everyone else back in Brimley on the 2nd. We had 17 sleds total on Friday and Saturday in one group with only one belt breaking on the trail. Everyone had a great time and are ready to do it again next year. We talked about maybe Gaylord or Grayling for next year s trip. Thanks to everyone that could make it. I enjoyed riding and spending time with all of you. It is already time to look toward next year, Club officer elections are coming up at the Spring membership meeting. I ask you to think about running for a board position. We have 6 board members elected every year and serve a two-year term. Give me or any of the other board members a call if you have any questions or would like your name on 2017-2019 ballot. The election will be at the spring membership meeting. See Kim's article for times and dates. We still have a month left of the season and I have a new snowmobile (new to me) that I want to ride. I will continue to do the snow dance and talk nicely to mother nature for some more snow! hope to see you on the trail. Trail Maintenance Hello everyone, So here we are in the middle of February and I am wearing shorts and a t-shirt, and we all know that makes for a funny sight or crappy snowmobiling. On a better note we had a wonderful turnout for the club trip, and I would like to say thank you to everyone that came up and joined us. We had a wonderful group of people that helped each other and enjoyed all the experiences that go along with having a big group and semi decent snow. So if you have ever thought about joining the club on a trip north I would highly recommend it! Hopefully we can have at least one more weekend to ride but it doesn't look great at this point. Thanks again to all the people that came up and I hope to see more club members in the future. Trail Maintenance- TJ NSC Members! $25 Off Any Fiberglass cap Page 2

A trip to the U.P. It was the first week of February and except for two days of riding on Northside trails, we hadn t done any riding. We were keeping an eye on the trail reports from the UP hoping to get in a trip. Finally we got a good report and made plan to go to Ishpeming one of our favorite places in the UP. When we arrived, snow conditions looked as good as promised. The first day we headed to Big Bay. As we turned onto the trail, we could see that it had been freshly groomed. We rode the trail for over 20 miles putting the first track in it. The next day we rode the loop through Champion, Republic, and then Gwinn. As we left Republic, we ran into the same thing, putting the first track in a freshly groomed trail for several miles. A trip to Ishpeming always includes a ride to L Anse. This trail has a lot of fun riding up and down through the power lines. A trip to L Anse isn t complete without a stop at the Hilltop Restaurant for cinnamon rolls. Check out their website at www.sweetroll.com to see the size of these rolls. They each weigh over a pound and are delicious and no, we are not sharing. Thursday was the first sunny day we had all week. We enjoyed being able to get out and ride and enjoy the sunshine. One thing about riding in this area is that there is not a lot of traffic. You have the trails to yourself most of the time. On Friday, our last day, we rode up and over Marquette Mountain. Traffic had picked up quite a bit so we stopped and watched the skiers on the ski hill for a while. All in all it was a good trip with lots of snow and good trail conditions. Who could ask for anything more? Tom and Sandy Kerns Page 5
Safety With the current 60+ degree temps, I thought I would remind everyone about summarizing their sleds. Most importantly put a storage stabilizer in the fuel and let the sled run for a few minutes. I like to drain my fuel down to a gallon or 2 left in the tank so I can start the next season with mostly fresh fuel. Loose the fuel and oil caps some to allow any internal pressure to release when the tanks get heated in the summer. Grease all zerks to pump out any water. Take the drive belt off and hang it up. Some recommend loosening the track and prop it up off the ground. Disconnecting the battery is also a good idea. If your sled is not in a enclosed trailer covering it up is a good idea. Speaking of trailers, now is a good time to wash your trailer, grease the wheel beaings, check the tires and lights. Don't forget to loosen the hold down clamps for the skis and lube the threads and the floor nuts for the hold downs. Doing these things now will save you time and money next winter and these jobs are easier to do when it is warm out. I am still hoping for some riding time, well, maybe in the U.P. if possible. Thanks, Greg Stanley Page 6
