In the past 4 years we ve taken our kids on 18 vacations which include 27 flights, 5 road trips, 2 cruises, and visits to 8 different countries. Preparing For Your Trip 4-6 Months Before Trip o Book travel tickets (plane, train, etc) o Book rental car o Make sure passports are current (some countries require for it to be valid 6 months after visit) o Check if visas are required o Book hotels o Speak with friends who have traveled there o Mark it in the calendar (and make sure there are no conflicts) o Request the time off work 2-3 Months Before Trip o Figure out sleeping arrangements o Make sure car seats have FAA sticker (if flying) o Purchase busy toys o Research opportunities to do laundry o Plan destination activities, buy tickets when applicable o Schedule travel appointment with pediatrician o Buy protection cover for stroller o Read travel blogs o Buy handcart for car seat
1 Month Before Trip o Borrow/buy and read guidebooks o Plan and map out restaurants o Download local google map o Get maps of public transportation o Set up travel-themed crafts with your kids o Read books to get children excited about travel and the destination o Develop a flexible itinerary with plenty of time to explore, eat, and take breaks o Schedule pet sitting o Check what activities will be missed at school o Consider mailing luggage directly to destination 1 Week Before Trip o Print all tickets and reservations o Start packing Pro-Mom Traveling Tip: Consider getting your child a cheap camera, scrapbook, or travel journal to let them collect memories on the trip o Ask family what they are most excited about for the upcoming travel o Look up weather for the trip o Suspend mail service, pay bills in advance 1 Day Before Trip o Check-in for flight/print boarding passes o Charge all devices o Double-check all important documents are packed
