Arne was an inventive man who took matters into his own hands by commissioning the manufacture of a new type of fast, self-locking buckle which was independent of holes in the strap - Arno-Remmen was born, the buckle was patented and the rest is history. In order to meet low price competition in the European market, an important decision was taken at the turn of the millennium to investigate the conditions for establishing a production plant in China. The location selected was Linhai, which is close to Shanghai on the Chinese east coast. The strategic location on the Pacific and proximity to one of China s largest export ports enable the products to be shipped rapidly and efficiently regardless of final destination. The fact that the production process in China is almost identical with that in Sweden delivers major synergy effects. The products are equivalent and if necessary we can provide supplementary manufacturing capacity in Sweden. We are alone in the industry in this respect, and it provides additional security for our customers. Another positive effect of the Chinese production is that we are always able to offer very short delivery times. In many cases, the products are sent to our Swedish warehouse for onward distribution, however it has recently become increasingly common for the deliveries from China to be shipped directly to end customers. This further cuts lead times and minimises the environmental impact. After what will soon be 15 years experience of manufacturing in China, we can state that our operation there has been an overwhelming success. In common with all Swedish-made lashings, the Chinese products meet the same high level of requirements for quality, function and safety. To ensure that the quality requirements are maintained, tests are performed on an ongoing basis, and each buckle is checked individually before assembly takes place. You can always rely on products from Arno, whether they are manufactured in China or in Sweden. Straps with text or logo are available in the standard widths of 18 and 25 mm with a minimum quantity of 300 m. It is also possible to have text or logo on straps in widths of 30 and 40 mm with a minimum quantity of 2,000 m. Hard-wearing material The straps are woven in durable Polypropylene, or in some cases Polyester, which makes them especially resistant to both damp and wear. The original buckle is made of electrogalvanized metal and is available in matt, black or green versions. The buckle can also be supplied in stainless steel, which is just about indestructible in combination with a polyester strap. OUR QUALITY PROMISE Arno-Remmen AB has held environmental and quality certification since 1996. The current certification meets the requirements for ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004. Our quality control is maintained and managed by Det Norske Veritas. THE PRODUCTION PROCESS Our own weaving mill ensures short lead times and maximum flexibility. The basis for our production is constituted by 15 Müller weaving machines which enable us to weave all types of straps up to 75mm wide. For woven text and logos, we use the most up-to-date CAD technology for pattern design. In the factory we both dye and heat-treat the straps which are subsequently cut at a high temperature in semiautomatic high-volume machines or with fully automatic precision cutters. We also have a number of special machines for jobs such as hole-punching and winding etc. Our skilful machinists then sew various Arno buckles or other types of fittings onto the straps. They also sew special solutions according to our customers own wishes. We use all possible stitching, e.g. braid, envelope and z-stitch, etc. Finally, the finished straps are packed 25 to the bundle in so-called industrial packs or bulk, and put into boxes. For packaging for consumers or wholesalers we use a fully automatic packaging line for bags and top labels. Arno-Remmen AB has been ranked AAA, the highest credit rating, since 2008 by Dun & Bradstreet. This is an exclusive grading, which is only held by about 3% of all Swedish companies. Our products are continuously tested at SP, The Technical Research Institute of Sweden. We collaborate with FTI, the national recycling system for packaging. Since 1996 we have been quality certified according to SS-EN ISO 9001:2008, as well as environmentally certified according to SS-EN ISO 14001:2004. This is naturally something we are very proud of and are pleased to highlight. It is also a security for our customers, which can always rely on the fact that our production takes place in a way that guarantees that our products always maintain the right quality and have as low an environmental impact as possible. At Arno-Remmen we are keen to uphold our promises regarding quality and environment, we are consequently inspected regularly by Det Norske Veritas, which is also the body that issues the certificates. Newspaper ad in Svenska Dagbladet, 1971 COMPANY HISTORY Construction of the new plant in Kristinehamn, 1975 Arnoremmen was founded in the early 1940s, when Arne Norman from the Swedish province of Dalarna realised how difficult it was to tighten leather straps as the holes were seldom located where they should be. He commissioned construction of a tool for a new buckle, what became known as the Swedish buckle, and started to assemble self-locking buckles on straps. The first 20 years laid the foundations for the Arno-Straps which are now an institution within lashings. The first Arno buckle is manufactured, and Arne Norman Bandindustri is set up in Grycksbo, Dalarna. Arno supplies 500,000 ski straps, a new sales record. Arne Norman establishes Arno LTD, Ireland. The new metal buckle is designed and patented. Arno moves to new premises in Kristinehamn, Värmland. Generational change! Arne Norman hands over the reins to his son Per-Arne who becomes the new head of Arno-Remmen. The business in Ireland is sold in order to focus on operations in Sweden. The first delivery to Volvo Cars Investments in new CAD technology for weaving. ARNO becomes ISO certified according to 9001 and 14001 as one of the first companies in the industry. The third generation of Normans continues to move forward.
