NARRATIVE: DE WERT was in Mayport, FL for the first 22 days in January for a post-counter drug ops deployment stand down. We were underway the 23rd-25th in the Jacksonville OPAREA for junior officer ship handling drills. We were inport 26 January for refueling and remained until 18 February. We had an IMAV from the 26th of January to 16 February. On February 1, we had a deployment debrief with CDS-14 and a debrief with CNSG-2 the next day. On 7 February, we had an INSURV board meeting. On 19 February, we got underway for a trip to Key West, FL. We spent the night of February 22 there for a port visit and,got underway on the 23rd for a return trip to Mayport. We returned on the 26th and stayed in port until 12 March. On March 1, we had an INSURV walk through with CDS-14. On 7 March, VADM Foley, COMNAVSURFLANT, visited our ship. On March 8, we got underway in the Jacksonville OPAREA for an INSURV UMI and returned the same day. The next day on March 9, RADM Bells, USCG, visited our ship. For DE WERT's outstanding performance on Her deployment in 2000, She was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation ribbon and the Coast Guard Unit Commendation ribbon. On 13 March, we got underway for a trip to Boston, MA. On the way, we rehearsed for our upcoming INSURV. From 16-18 March, the crew enjoyed a port visit in Boston, MA. We participated in their St. Patrick's Day parade lead by CDR T. K. Shannon. The crew was proud to march through the streets of Boston and show our respect to the people of Richard DeWert1s home town. On March 19, we got underway enroute for Newport, RI to host a school ship for the SWOS students. On the 21St and 22nd of March, we were underway in the Narragansett Bay with 120 SWOS students for training. On March 23rd, we were underway enroute to New York, New York. We spent 24-26 March in New York for a port visit. On March 27th, got underway enroute to Yorktown, VA for ammo offload. We spent 28 and 29 March in NWS Yorktown offloading weapons. We were underway 30 and 31 March enroute for Mayport, FL. We were in port Mayport for 1B gas turbine engine change out the first 11 days of April. We then got underway 12 April in the Jacksonville OPAREA. April 13 to April 17 we were in port and then INSURV began 17 April.

April 13 to April 17 we were in port and then INSURV began 17 April. INSURV went very well for DE WERT. We got underway 18 April in the Jacksonville OPAREA for UMI. We were then in port the lgth to the 25th for a change of command ceremony. CDR J. R. Boorujy relieved CDR T. K. Shannon on 25 April. The 26th and the 27th of April we were underway and came back on the 28th to begin ESRA on the 3oth. SEMAT took place 21 May to 1 June. One 11 June we had ATG observe a main space fire drill. From the 1 3 to ~ ~ 1 5 of ~ ~ June we had a ship board team trainer. The 1 8 to ~ ~ 22nd we had a USW team trainer. August lst and 2nd we had a medical LTT. We were in port August lst to 13~~. On August 1 4 we ~ ~ got underway for NWS Yorktown. We spent August 1 6 and ~ ~ 17th in Yorktown on loading weapons. We got underway the 1 8 of ~ ~ August enroute for Mayport conducting an engineering and damage control LTT on the way. From the 22nd to the 27th we were in port Mayport. We had PC0 riders on board from the 27th to the 31St of August. We were underway the 28th and 2gth of August in the Jacksonville OPAREA and in port the 3oth to the 3rd of September. We were underway 4 to 6 September in the Jacksonville OPAREA with three DOD ON1 civilians for "scientists to sea". We were then in port 7 September to 8 October. CART I1 commenced on 10 September but was suspended due to the attacks that took place on September llth. The 1 7 of ~ ~ September to the 28th of October we had an IMAV. The ATG supply inspectors came on board the to the 21St of September for SMA. We had a 3M assist visit the 24th to the 28th of September. Engineering Initial Assessment was 3 October to 5 October. We got underway on 9 October in the Jacksonville OPAREA and would return on 10 October. We then got underway again on the llth of October in the Jacksonville OPAREA for a CART I1 scenario. We returned on the 1 2 and ~ ~ remained in port the 1 3 ~ ~ and 14~~. On the 1 5 we ~ ~ got underway in the Jacksonville OPAREA until the 18~~. We were in port the lgth until the 22nd. The 23rd to the 25th we were underway in the Jacksonville OPAREA. The 26th to the 2gth we were in port. We were then

underway in the Jacksonville OPAREA from the 3oth of October until the lst of November. We had Underway Demonstration on 1 November. The 2nd to the 5th of November we were in port Mayport. On the 2nd we had a C5RA in brief and an EW LTT. On the 5th we had an IMAV inbrief. The 5th to the gth we had PC0 riders. From the 6th to the gth we were underway in the Jacksonville OPAREA for a USW LTT and a NAV LTT. From the loth of Noverrber to the 31St of December we were in port. From 12 November to 16 November we had an AAV/ARE assist. On 14 and 15 November we had espionage briefs. On 15 and 16 November we conducted an SUW LTT. On 16 November we had an awards ceremony. Then on 19 November we did Deck Landing Qualifications with a Mayport based helicopter squadron. On 19 and 20 November we had a 3M assist and an SUW LTT. From 26 November to 29 November we had a visual communications LTT, a seamanship LTT, an electronic warfare LTT, and a damage control LTT. The 3rd to 21St of December, we had another IMAV. We had an aviation certification from the 3rd to the 7th of December. From 3 to 5 December we had an integrated training LTT. The week of 10 to 14 December, DE WERT excelled in their supply management inspection and we also had a 20B5 trainer. From the loth to the 1 2 of ~ ~ December we had an engineering LTT. DE WERT finished off the year with holiday stand down from 15 to 31 December. DE WERT had an excellent year in 2001 and was subsequently awarded the Maritime Warfare Excellence Award, the Engineering Survivability Excellence Award, the Command and Control Excellence Award, and the Battle Efficiency Award. It was also awarded the Wellness Award, the Tycom Safety Award, and the Ney Award for excellence in Food Service.
