1st Day (Friday) Lisbon Welcome to Lisbon. Our representative will be at the airport to take you to your hotel. The hotel will be available after 3 pm. Free afternoon. For dinner (not included) we suggest one of the Lisbon typical restaurants of Fado, where you can dine and listen to the traditional Fado music. Ask your travel agent for our optional tours. 2nd Day (Saturday) Lisbon/Sintra/Cascais/Estoril/Lisbon At 09 a.m. your driver will meet you at your hotel for a sightseeing tour of Lisbon. We will be arriving in Belém where the 16th century Monastery of Jerónimos is (UNESCO World Heritage Site). We visit the the Belém pastry pastel factory dated from 1837. We will also stop at Belém Tower to take some photos. We will then proceed to Sintra town, UNESCO World Heritage Site, located 20 Km from Lisbon. Free time to walk around and get to know this charming town. Shultz tip: visit the Piriquita coffee shop in the center and have a delicious pastry Travesseiros and Queijadas not included). At time to be informed, we will continue to Cascais. On our return to Lisbon we will pass by Estoril. Arrival at the hotel and free evening. 7th Day (Thursday) Oporto Free day to wander around the city of Oporto. Schultz tip: Try the famous Francesinha one of the typical dishes. Visit the Majestic Café, Clérigos Tower, Lello s bookstore and Oporto s Cathedral. On this day (not included) you can choose to take an optional tour to Santiago de Compostela or visit Barcelos, Ponte de Lima and Viana do Castelo, a boat trip in the Douro river or a wine tasting of Porto in the wine cellars in Vila nova de Gaia. Ask your travel agent for our optional tours 8th Day (Friday) Oporto/Coimbra/ /Lisbon We say goodbye to Oporto and we go to Coimbra, where the first university of Portugal was created, being one of the oldest in Europe. After visiting the university we will have time at the city center. Departure to Lisbon. Accommodation and free evening. 9th Day (Saturday) Lisbon Breakfast. Hotel available until 11 am. Check out. At time to be informed, transfer to the airport. End of our services. 3rd Day (Sunday) Lisbon/Óbidos/Nazaré/Batalha/Fátima/Aveiro We will head towards the north of Portugal. Our first stop is in Óbidos, a small medieval town, placed within Óbidos castle walls. Schultz tip: try the famous cherry liquor ginginha in a chocolate cup (not included). We will continue to Nazaré, a fisherman s village famous for its giant waves. We visit the highest part to enjoy the breath-taking view over the town. We will proceed to Batalha where the Monastery of Batalha is, one of the most beautiful works of Portuguese and European Gothic architecture and UNESCO World Heritage Site, built to celebrate Portugal s victory in the infamous battle of Aljubarrota. Our next stop will be Fátima, one of the largest Marian worship centers and we visit the village of Aljustrel, where the three little shepherds were born. At time to be informed we will continue to Aveiro, known as the Venice of Portugal. Arrival and free evening. Schultz tip: taste the famous pastry Ovos moles typical of the city, eat a grilled fish in one of the several restaurants next to the fish market (not included). 4th Day (Monday) Aveiro/Lamego/ Winery Estate in Douro/Douro After breakfast, we will take a Moliceiro boat tour (included) along the Aveiro river to admire the beautiful Art Nouveau buildings and the salt pans. We will continue our tour to Lamego and visit its impressive 600 meters high baroque sanctuary, dedicated to Our Lady of Remedies. Time to visit the city center and to lunch in an excellent local restaurant (included). In the afternoon, we will visit a winery estate in the Douro Valley to get familiar with the methods of producing port wine (visit and wine tasting included). Accommodation and free time. 5th Day (Tuesday) Douro/Pinhão/ Boat ride in the Douro River/ We will head towards Pinhão, the heart Douro Valley Wine Region, classified by UNESCO as Cultural Landscape. We will experience a boat ride in the Douro river among the vineyards and wine estates (tour included) and visit the Train Station which is decorated with a collection of beautiful tiles showing typical scenes of the Douro valley all related to port wine production. We will then leave for the city of, known as the birthplace of Portuguese nationality, take a walk and see the historic city center, UNESCO Cultural Heritage. We will visit the medieval Castle of (1st place among the seven wonders of Portugal) and the Dukes of Bragança Palace. Free time and accommodation. 6th Day (Wednesday) /Braga/Oporto Today we will visit Braga and Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary, we will go up in a curious 19th century water powered elevator (included). Then we will go to the historical city center, visit the oldest Portuguese Cathedral. Departure to OPorto, the second most important city of Portugal. Upon arrival we will have a sightseeing tour. End of our services. 3rd Day (Sunday) Lisbon/Óbidos/Nazaré/Batalha/Fátima We will head towards the north of Portugal. Our first stop is in Óbidos, a small medieval town, placed within Óbidos castle walls. Schultz tip: try the famous cherry liquor ginginha in a chocolate cup (not included). We will continue to Nazaré, a fisherman s village famous for its giant waves. We visit the highest part to enjoy the breath-taking view over the town. We will proceed to Batalha where the Monastery of Batalha is, one of the most beautiful works of Portuguese and European Gothic architecture and UNESCO World Heritage Site, built to celebrate Portugal s victory in the infamous battle of Aljubarrota. Our next stop will be Fátima, one of the largest Marian worship centers and we visit the village of Aljustrel, where the three little shepherds were born. At time to be informed we will continue to Aveiro, known as the Venice of Portugal. Arrival and free evening. We will continue our journey through Alentejo landscape, where vineyards were planted by Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans and currently by great wine producers, until we reach the city of - World Heritage Site. Lunch is included in a local restaurant. In the afternoon we will visit the Roman temple of Diana and will have free time to visit the Capela dos Ossos (bones chapel- optional) and walk around the city centre. We continue to the Herdade do Esporão to visit and wine tasting (included). Santarém became part of the Order of Christ lands. This Order financially supported the Portuguese discoveries having strongly developed at that time which is still visible in the monuments of the city. Our visit begins at Portas do Sol Gardens, belvedere from where we can admire the view over the Tagus river. We can find the tomb of Pedro Alvares Cabral, the Portuguese navigator who discovered Brazil in 1500 in the church of Nossa Senhora da Graça. Next to it the house of Brazil which belonged to his family. We will continue to Belmonte, the birthplace of Pedro Alvares Cabral that still preserves its medieval characteristics. Here settled the first Jewish community during Spanish Inquisition persecution. Get to know the Pelourinho, the Palace, the cistern and the Convent of Santa Maria de Aguiar, monuments that make this place unforgettable. We will continue to Vila Nova de Foz Côa, we will visit the Archaeologic Park Museum, World Heritage of humanity, that gathers a legacy of prehistoric sites of the Palaeolithic Cave Art, considered one of the most important in the world. We continue to Miranda do Douro, located at the banks of the river Douro, at the border with Spain, in an arid and mountainous region surrounded by the Natural Park of the International Douro with magnificent landscapes. Then we will proceed to Gimonde, a genuine village with beautiful landscapes where the rural lives in full communion with nature. The Bridge of Gimonde, also known as the Old Bridge, is located on the river Malara, it is the attraction of this village combined with the excellent gastronomy. Lunch time (included). We will continue towards the Natural Park of Montesinho in the extreme northeast of Portugal to visit the River Onor, small village crossed by the river that divides the village into two parts. We proceed to Chaves, located in a fertile valley nest to the river Tâmega, named by the romans as Aquae Flaviae due to the quality and healing properties of its thermal springs. We will also stop at Belém Tower to take some photos. We will then proceed to Sintra town, UNESCO World Heritage Site, located 20 Km from Lisbon. We head towards the interior of Portugal, to make us return into the past, to learn the history and customs, traditions and the most genuine character of the Portuguese people. We will visit the historical villages of Portugal. Our first stop is in Idanha-a-Velha, founded by the Romans. It was several times invaded over the years, with a picturesque atmosphere, still preserves a valuable historical heritage. We will visit the Torre de Menagem (castle watch tower), built by the Knights Temple, the Wall and roman bridges, the Church of Santa Maria from the era of muslem rule and the Pelourinho located at the church square. Monsanto considered the most Portuguese village of Portugal, ancient and very well preserved, with its houses in the middle of giant granite blocks showing a unique image. We will visit the castle and its walls and the Lucano tower, the former bell tower from where we can see the symbol of the most Portuguese village. We will arrive in Belmonte, the birthplace of Pedro Álvares Cabral, the Portuguese navigator who discover Brazil in 1500, that still preserves its medieval characteristics. Here settled the first Jewish community during Spanish Inquisition persecution. We will visit the Castle, an important monument of the history of this village, the Cabrais Pantheon and the Pelourinho. Accommodation. 5th Day (Saturday) Belmonte/ Estrela/Piódão/Coimbra After breakfast, we will go to Manteigas, driving along the road of the Zêzere Glacial Valley, with landscapes of great beauty. The Torre, the highest point of Continental Portugal with 1993 meters high, sits on top. We will continue through the landscape of Estrela, lunch at a local restaurant. Next we go to Piódão, probably one of the most famous historical villages, with its shale houses, surrounded by the Açor mountain green landscape. An exclusive image that looks more like a postcard. We will visit the Main Church with its gilded wood high altar, the Algares Fountain, St. Peter s Chapel and Piódão s museum centre where the way of living of the population is portrayed.
